ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
Apple was started by Steven Jobs and Stephen Wozniak, when they created their first Apple computer called Apple I, on 1st April, 1976. It was incorporated as Apple Inc. in 1977, in California. Although, Apple today is one of the biggest technology giants in the world, with yearly revenue of more than $60 billion dollars, it wasn’t always that successful. For about 20 years since its inception, it faced inconsistent sales and couldn’t break the market, in terms of market share. As is the case with any company which started as a start-up, the culture of the organization is highly influenced by and is closely associated with the founder, in this case Steve Jobs.

And it is probably one of the reasons behind Apple becoming one of the most valuable companies in the world, in terms of market capitalization. However, this culture also had its downsides. Steve Jobs was considered a leader who did not care about his employees. He was always on the hunt for good talent. While that is not wrong, he worked to get them, or keep them, only with the help of sizeable financial incentives. The environment was layered with massive secrecy and a general sense of fear. Mrs. Modi narrated an incident which she had heard from one of her seniors. The incident took place around 2005, when an employee was called in for a one-on-one with Steve Jobs, where Jobs asked him to explain how he brings value to Apple in less than 10 words. Jobs wasn’t satisfied with the answer and fired the employee on the spot.
