The use of ultrasound has led to a considerable analysis of diverse numbers of health conditions associated with medical procedures. It is for this reason that the New Zealand Medical Journal should consider ultrasound as the best nomination for the most important piece of medical equipment in use. Ultrasound is used to diagnose many types of illnesses such as Appendicitis, Kidney Stones and a variation of cancers.
Firstly, Appendicitis is the swelling of the appendix. The appendix is similar to a tube, the size of a finger that forms a sack, which is attached to the large intestine. Appendicitis can occur because of numerous effects such as toxic bacteria building up on the appendix, a genetically ruptured appendix and an appendix that has a clogged opening because of the large intestine. There are many symptoms of Appendicitis such as abdominal pain, minor fever, loss of appetite, extreme nausea or vomits and excessive coughing. By using ultrasound, Appendicitis can be exposed as quickly as exposing flu or a cold. It is a very fast and effective process that can be done easily without the need of having a doctor present in the room. Some scientists may recommend using a CT Scan instead of ultrasound however the use of ultrasound is cheaper, safer and better for Appendicitis. It is cheaper because it is done as a basic study and the operational cost (both technical and professional) is very insignificant compared to a CT Scan. The ultrasound device is just as efficient to use and much cheaper than other modalities, making it cheaper on the New Zealand Government to purchase such an effective device. Also, it is safer for one major reason. Using a CT Scan instead of ultrasound would result in unnecessary radiation that may...

...etect cancer. One advantage for this is that ultrasound devices are able to detect the cancers before the symptoms start to show. This means that there is a more likely chance for the patient to be cured before it starts to spread in the process of meiosis (cell division). Another advantage of having ultrasound is using the Colour Doppler Ultrasound, which is an imaging technique that provides a visualization of what is happening in the body. It provides a coloured image that shows all the cancer cells that are spreading in the body, making it easier for the doctor to locate the place of the cancer spreading.
In conclusion, because of the significant speed, safety and cost of diagnosing medical conditions, the New Zealand Medical Council is urged to give the nomination of ultrasound its favourable consideration fort the most important piece of medical equipment.
Diagnostic medical sonography is a profession where sonographers direct high-frequency sound waves into a patient’s body through the use of specific equipment to diagnose or monitor a patient’s medical condition. As described by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, this examination is referred to as an ultrasound, sonogram, or echocardiogram. The high-frequency sound waves emitted from the handheld device, called a transducer, bounce back creating an echo and therefore produce an image that can be viewed on the sonographers computer screen. This image provides the sonographer and physician with an internal image of the patient’s body that will be used in the diagnosis. The most familiar use of ultrasound is used in monitoring pregnancies and is provided by obstetric and gynecologic sonographers, who also provide imaging of the female reproductive system. Other types of sonography include; abdominal sonography, breast sonography, musculoskeletal sonography, neurosonography and cardiovascular sonography. Due to the vast nature of uses in sonography, most professionals study one field that they choose to specialize in. Diagnostic medical sonography is a rapidly growing field because of the increase in medical advances. The area of Cleveland, Ohio has continued to rise in the medical field with great strides, providing better career prospects with the availability of numerous employment positions.
As an ultrasound technician/sonographer I will have the ability to see dangerous defects within the human anatomy and begin a lifelong profession with many benefits. The Ultrasound was first invented in the early 1900’s and was surprisingly not used to produce photos of a fetus. In 1917 Paul Langen a marine life scientist used a form of ultrasound equipment in his attempt to detect submarines. After many failed attempts at using high frequency sound waves Dr. Ian Donald and his team in Glasgow, Scotland invented the first ultrasound machine in 1957. Dr. Donald even tested his machine on patients within a year of completing the invention, by the late 1950’s ultrasounds became routine in Glasgow hospitals.
Authors have a variety of motives for writing, which are termed as the author’s purpose. The four main purposes for writing are to express oneself, to explain or inform, to entertain, or to persuade. In the nonfiction story, "The First Appendectomy" written by Dr. William Nolen, the author's purpose is to inform.
Ultrasound Technicians are very valuable in the world of health care. Also known as Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, an Ultrasound Technician uses special machines and equipment that operates on sound waves to determine or diagnose medical problems for patients. There are specializations within this field in which some individuals explore. For instance, areas of specialization includes but not limited to; pregnancy, heart health, gynecology, and abdominal sonography. Although each specializing branch has its own distinctive function, they all involve probing the body to facilitate doctors with diagnoses.
Being able to identify lumps, swelling, tissue damage, cysts, and the overwhelming news of the sex of a baby all have something in common, an ultrasound. Swelling of the spleen, kidney stones, blood clots, aneurysms, cancer and so much more can be identified through the works of an ultrasound’s imaging technique. Ultrasound involves many concepts, procedures, and careers. The amount of medical possibilities involved with ultrasounds is useful in major medical diagnostics. The field of ultrasounds and career opportunities are widely growing. As medical careers flourish, needs for technicians in many fields of medicine are increasing. Instead of a doctor choosing complex and risky surgery to find out problems within the body, they can now choose a safer path; the ultrasound path. Patient’s history and physical evaluation are building blocks to diagnostics but ultrasounds are much greater. They are powerful tools used to see beyond the skin into the depths of a person’s body. What ultrasounds are, what types there are, and what they are used for, and the education and careers available are the major themes found in research on the subject. Knowledge of ultrasound and its background may help one decide what career is best for them. Understanding the wide array of diagnostic tests and their uses are essential to figuring out what a career as a sonographer entails and the type of education that is needed. Because there are plenty of possibilities for specializing with different technologies, there is a wide variety of job opportunities in the medical imaging career. The call for ultrasound’s assistance opens new paths in future high-quality careers.
Crohn’s disease is a disease that causes inflammation, swelling, and irritation to any part of the digestive tract which is also known as the gastrointestinal tract or GI tract. The disease most commonly targets the ileum which is a part in the small intestine. The digestive tract is organs that connect your mouth to your anus and it releases hormones and enzymes for the digestion in food. The inflammation caused by the disease goes deep into the lining of the digestive tract. It creates a stricture in the small intestine which is a narrowing of the pathway that can slow the movement of food through the intestine. The stricture can then move to large intestine which can cause many problems for absorption. When the disease causes the intestine to swell it can also be very problematic because the large intestine wouldn’t be able to function properly. Crohn’s disease is considered as an inflammatory bowel disease.
It is a requirement for the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Employers prefer these individual skills given in the ARDMS. I will study skills and concepts in medical assisting, medical billing, coding, laboratory procedures, phlebotomy, nursing assisting and pharmacy technology. (California College San Diego, 2015) Having extra skills in many other careers will help me be successful in many other things in life. Some other benefits is that once I graduate I could be prepared for a career as a pharmacy technician, certified nursing assistant, home health aide, medical receivables and a coding professional. (California College San Diego, 2015) It makes it interesting because I’ll be able to be qualified for other things. These skills and benefits will make sure that I’m able to do whatever I desire. Becoming an ultrasound technician will make a difference in the world because I’ll be able to find major things out before they become
[Author] [Nutrition and diet in inflammatory bowel disease] [Institution] [University] Nutrition and diet in inflammatory bowel disease Introduction Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a collective term used to describe two medical complications of digestive tract or gastro-intestinal tract, which are Crohn’s Disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is major disease affecting about 60 thousand people in Australia, about 1.4 million in United States (US) while in Europe its prevalence is about 2.2 million persons who suffer from these diseases (Kansal, Wagner, Kirkwood & Catto-Smith, 2013; Loftus, 2004 ). Environmental factors are very much importance for prevalence of disease. The strongest environmental factors leading towards the incidence of the disease are smoking and bad or unhealthy eating habits. Apart from this surgical removal of appendix can also be one of the encouraging factor for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
In general, ultrasound waves produced by an instrument called transducer are sent into a patient. Some of the waves are absorbed, but the other portion of these waves are reflected when tissue and organ boundaries are encountered. The echoes produced by the reflected waves are then picked up by the transducer and translated in a visible picture often referred to as ultrasound. In the paragraphs that follow, the physics of how the transducer functions, what the ultrasound waves do, and how the image is formed will be explained.
Ulcerative colitis, or UC, is a chronic gastrointestinal disease that causes inflammation and ulcers in the lining of the large intestine. It causes ulcers in the colon and rectum. Ulcerative colitis is one of two forms of inflammatory bowel disease. In UC, the inflammation from the ulcers breaks down the lining of the colon and causes bleeding and discomfort in the abdomen.
The pancreas is one of the essential organs in the human body and belongs in the Digestive system. Out of all the internal organs, the pancreas is unique because the pancreas plays a role in both the endocrine gland and the exocrine gland. This means that the pancreas is a dual function gland in which is the reason why the pancreas is such a vital part of the digestive system. This research paper will talk about the anatomy, physiology, and the important functions the pancreas play to maintain homeostasis.
This information is used in conjunction with the past and relevant patient history data from physical examinations to make an analysis. Sonographers report data to physicians and educate patients by promoting a healthy lifestyle and good health. Diagnostic medical sonographers may work in hospitals or clinical settings, work on shifts that can include evenings and weekends, and required to be on call as well (1). They need to exhibit many tasks such as following established regulatory procedures, evaluating sonograms, and making accurate decisions of acquiring optimum diagnostic sonographic information in each session. Moreover, sonographers are required some physical tasks such as lifting patients, moving heavy equipment and wheelchairs (2). Sound waves that are used in ultrasound are not classified as dangerous, but there are some risks by the sonographer that may include exposure to blood-borne pathogens (2) and repeated, prolonged motions in difficult positions leading to strain injuries (1). Additionally it can be emotionally taxing as it can be stressful working with patients that have anxiety, and experiencing unpleasant odors and sights. Therefore, it is important for sonographers to be in good health, specifically regarding upper body and shoulder strength. Sonographers need to be able to pay close attention to
Make an appointment with your family doctor or a general practitioner if you have stomach pain. If you have appendicitis, you'll likely be hospitalized and talk with a surgeon about taking out your appendix.
If I had to explain ultrasound and paraffin therapy to a client I would explain it in a way they understand it. For example, ultrasound is applied using the head of an ultrasound probe that is placed in direct contact with your skin through a gel. Sound waves will travel from the probe through the gel to your skin which will cause a vibration. The vibrations will facilitate tissue relaxation, increased blood flow, tissue heating, and scar tissue breakdown. During the ultrasound treatment, you may experience tingling which is completely normal, but if at any time it gets to be intolerable please let me know so we can stop treatment. I will alert my patient that symptoms of ultrasound may increase after two or three treatments due to inflammation
