5. Enslaved Africans were most successful in creating communities in the Chesapeake. Most slaves that were born in America lived in the Chesapeake, and so English became a common language which allowed a rapid development in the culture. Some tobacco farmers wanted to increase the workforce by purchasing woman slaves and encouraging large families among the slaves. They were least successful in the West Indies and the Carolinas because there were many different tribes of Africans with many different languages, which made it hard for the slaves to interact with one another, which was the goal of the owners because that way they would focus more on the work. suffered much more deaths and had very few births.
Around the beginning of the sixteenth centruy, many countires had started to explore farther away and finding new territories. New products like sugar and taobacco began to emerge around the world in many places. Many countries in Europe were gaining power due to the control of colonies in the Americas. Asian countries did not explore as much, but still managed to remain large and powerful for a while. The global flow of silver had economic effects on inflating prices of goods and stimulating econimic policy of mercantilism, and social effects on negative effects on the lower class around the world during the mid-sixteenth century to the early eighteenth century.
They preferred African slaves to European or Native American slaves because they "could be held for unlimited terms, and there was no means by which word of harsh or arbitrary treatment could reach their homelands" (Wood, 43). The ability of the Englishmen to hold slaves for an unlimited amount of time and to use any methods of punishment gave them all the power. The indentured servant only worked to fulfill the previous contract as part of the headright system. Colonists "complained of the 'servants that dayley become free"(41). Since the servants had varying terms of service, it made it difficult to keep enough workers. Native Americans were cheap and did not have to be imported, but knew the land better than the Englishmen and could easily escape. During the period 1550-1800, the colonization of the Americas by European civilizations led to massive shifts in economic power from the West to East and vice-versa. An increase in global competition among western civilizations and against their asian counterparts drove Europeans to search for wealth elsewhere, and thus colonizing the Americas. In the Middle East, the Gunpowder Empires were flourishing and spreading Islam. In China and Southeast Asia, several power struggles occurred, as well as European trade starting. Although these changes affected society and created unity and conflict, religion being part of politics created both unity and conflict in Europe and South Asia through the Protestant Reformation and the policies of some of the policies of some Mughal rulers.

Organized labor is only another example of how sizable groups make more of an impact on large corporations than one person does. Labor unions improved the positions of workers by causing employers to think twice about wages, giving legal recognition such as lowering work hours and drawing attention to the issue of child labor. The increase in awareness that organized groups caused is what ultimately decided the court case of Muller v, Oregon in 1908, which made it illegal for women to work for more than ten hours a day.

The colonist eventually lost their patience and started a revolution. High taxes, and no religious freedom led the colonist to fight for self government.
In the years 1777 to 1778, while General George Washington was settled in Valley Forge with his forces, the Continental Army was falling apart. It became difficult for Washington to keep leading when his soldiers kept retreating. My position is a soldier in the army who will be allowed to leave in one month, but I will not leave. The soldiers at Valley Forge in 1777 and 1778 should have stayed. The Continental Army needed everyone they could keep, the death toll was low, and George Washington was a fantastic leader.

Beginning of the 15th and 16th centuries, Europeans began to explore in the Atlantic Coast of Africa. They were mainly lured into the excessive trade in gold, spices and other goods without knowing about slaves in Africa. Nonetheless, Europeans had no success of taking over these African states to achieve all of these goods but later they did take over various regions in other areas. Africans seems to be willing to sell as many as 11 million people to the Atlantic slave trade to the Europeans. Thus, this makes them the first people to have slaves not the Europeans that forced them into this trade. Furthermore, at the start the Africans seems to have full control of the slave trade, but the Europeans came in and slowly dominated the trade without the Africans knowing. Later on, the trade was overturned and everything went back orderly.
Imperialism is when a mother nation takes over another nation and become its colony for political, social, and economical reasons. Imperialism is a progressive force for both the oppressors (mother country) and the oppressed (colony), majorly occurring during the late 19th and early 20th century. It had more negative effects than positive effects due to its domination to other nations.
Compared to Jamestown, Charlestown of Carolina also had plenty of work to do, but not enough workers to complete it. More laborers were needed which made slaves a highly valued trading good. While most historians agree with this term, many debate that the "dark age" was actually a time of growth and prosperity for Europe. The time period of 500AD to 1500AD consisted of many tragic events such as the Crusades and the Black Death but also good events like the opening of new universities and the Magna Carta. The time was mostly a period of growth and prosperity that still affects our world today.
Economic conditions, including soil and climate determined the number of slaves in a given locality. The majority of the black population were found in the colonies that produced the greatest agricultural staples, such as sugar, rice, tobacco and cotton. The land most suitable for cotton production became the land where plantation slavery was most concentrated. Since picking cotton was relatively simple, it was a powerful stimulant for exploitation, providing year-round employment for men, women, children and the elderly.
The plantation owners saw two advantages to having African American slaves as opposed to the white servants. Some African Americans came to the colonies already in possession of the skills needed to cultivate rice, and they could teach these skills to their masters. The second reason was that Africans tended to be immune to malaria and yellow fever, both of which existed heavily in the marshes2. Requiring slaves to cultivate the marshes made for a more efficient way to produce the rice.
