“Every cloud has a silver lining”. This is a common saying depicting how even in the face of adversity, hope can get discovered. Opportunities can get found when looked for. This is what the author and aviator Anne Morrow Lindbergh wishes to convey in her book Gift of the Sea. Pursuing the unknown is far more enriching than avoiding it, as it encourages growth. “We tend not to choose the unknown, which might be a shock or a disappointment or simply a little difficult to cope with. And yet it is the unknown, with all its disappointments and surprises, that is the most enriching”. Lindbergh encourages people to face the unknown and learn from their past mistakes. While avoiding issues may appear easier than facing them, mutual agreements get met when both parties understand. She suggests that they face their fears because it builds an open mind and grants insight. There is nothing to lose in seeking new things. Bad experiences can grant wisdom, and good experiences can augment mentality. To nourish their brain, people should seek both wisdom and happiness. Happy memories may appear pointless, but their use will become clear when reality hits. Without joy, an individual may feel incomplete and resentful. Their brain, in all its gluttonous nature, requires dopamine to function. This causes the individual to seek help through any means necessary. To grow, the brain needs both dopamine and wisdom. Knowledge and joy are achievable through new experiences. Many individuals find major opportunities before they know how to handle them. Overwhelmed by the fear of never getting such an opportunity again, they take it. But their lack of experience soon caught up to them. They find themselves losing everything and more.
