The years 1942 through 1945 Jewish people were having a very hard time in Europe. Jews in Europe were getting captured by the Nazis and sent to concentration camps. The Historical events that are reflected in the play The Diary of Anne Frank by retelling the events that happened during World War II through the eyes of the people who were in the attic.

It was the beginning of World War II and the Frank family had to go into hiding after they receive an order for Margot to report to a forced labor camp.(Page 196) Because of the Nazi’s racism toward the Jews, they feared that they were going to have to go Concentration camps or being persecuted. Another Jewish family that came to hide in the attic with the Franks were the Van Daan. Anne received a diary for her birthday. In her diary she writes down the events that occur during their time hiding. The fear of being found is all in everyone's mind all the time. There is lack of food for the people in the attic because they cannot go and buy there own food. In November of 1942 Mr. Kraler found another Jew, named Dussel that was not in hiding and was in need of a safe place to stay, so he said that Dussel could stay in the attic. Being in hiding means that there was no gifts at the Hanukkah celebration until Anne walks in with a bag full of presents for everyone. The Diary of Anne Frank has been translated and published in many different languages in France, Germany, the United States, Japan, and Great Britain. In the United States they have made a Movie and a Broadway Play on Anne’s Diary. The attic where they stayed has been turned into a permanent museum that tell the story of Anne and those who hid with her. This book was given the award for the eighth most inspiring American Film.
