Anne Frank Compare And Contrast Essay

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to live during World War 2? Life during World War 2 was torture if you were jewish, especially if you were a kid. Felix Salingar from Then by Morris Gleitzman and Anne Frank both knew what it was like. Their stories both describe the lives of jewish children hiding from the Nazis, in fear of being taken and killed. Throughout both of their stories, many character traits were discovered about them that show how they are similarly affected by the events in their stories. Anne Frank and Felix Salingar have many similarities, some of which stand out more than others.
There are moments in their stories that show how Felix and Anne are both innocent in their own ways. For example, when Anne Frank got in trouble

for talking in class three times, she was still happy like nothing had happened, and she was perfectly fine. (pgs 7-8) Anne, being an innocent girl, can find a way to make some situations the best of what they could be, like in this situation. Another example is when Felix says, “In the next valley, there might be a house. With a really kind cook, who’s made too much dinner and who is looking for people to help eat the extra platefuls of delicious stew.”(pgs 6-8) When Felix was sad, he found a way to make the best out of the situation, by imagining what it would be like if they found the best situation there could be.
Some moments in their stories also show how they are similar by their curiosity.One exampe is when Anne said, “But i’m not allowed to get up at that hour, so I had to control my curiosity until quarter to seven.”(pg 1) This shows that Anne is so curious about what she got for her birthday, but she had to wait until quarter to seven, or she would get in trouble. Another example is when Felix see’s a cabinet full of expensive spoons at the store, and he takes one out to see how much it is.(pgs 75-76) This shows that Felix is curious enough to take the risk of touching expensive things in a german owned store, just to see what they are. This could have caused the owner of the store to suspect something, blow his cover and get him captured by the nazis.
Another similarity that is shown in both of their stories is that they are both smart.

One example is that Anne was punished for talking in class, so he teacher made her right three stories about talking in class.(pg.8) Her teacher thought that her third one was so good, that he not only let her talk in class, but he shared the story with his other classes as well. Even after Anne was punished, she still found a way to not only be allowed to talk in class, but she outsmarted her teacher as well. An example for Felix is when Felix showed the nazis a picture of Zelda’s german parents to save himself from execution.(pgs. 159-160) Felix has shown several times, such as this one, that he is smart enough to get himself out of tough spots, even when it is a life or death situation.
Throughout their books, many similar character traits are shown between Felix Salingar and Anne Frank. Several moments throughout their stories show that they are both smart, innocent, and curious in their own way. Their stories have shown that Felix Salingar and Anne Frank can both have similar character traits between them that show how they are affected by the similar events in their stories. But, no matter how similar and different they may be, they both experience hardships throughout their stories that have really brought out the true meaning of these

similarities.
