Based on a true story? Edgar Allan Poe, a poet, an anti-transcendentalist, and a dark romantic is well known for being the father of horror. Horror, the intense feeling of fear, shock, or disgust. Poes topics of writing are very dark and morbid, those topics being death, insanity, murder, reanimation of the death, and even premature burial, things that people back in his time period didn't write about. Poe’s childhood wasn't very happy and cheery as you might expect it to be. Was his life portrayed in his writing or was it just a coincidence that his stories seemed to be about him and his life? In the poem Annabel Lee he speaks about her [Annabel Lee] as if we know her, we can suppose it is his wife Virginia Clemm but there is no definite answer. From the moon beaming to the stars never rising. In reality Poe just went downhill, but that didn’t exactly happen the poem, but the idea was similar. As previously stated, Edgar Allan Poe portrays his life through his writing. His poems and stories seem to be connected to him and his own life. In his poem Annabel Lee he lays with the corpse inside the tomb and in real life Edgar Allan Poe and his wife share a tomb, which is pretty coincidental. In Annabel Lee the speaker is reminded of her by everything considering she was his whole entire world, in real life Poe lost his wife 10 years after they got married, and he just spiraled and went downhill from there.
