People may think that animals that are in scientific labs are being treated fairly, but it is in fact not true. Animals have been treated with cruelty in scientific labs testings for humans to ensure the safety being exposed to the public. PETA, an animal research group shows how animals are being treated differently than what people expected the animals to be treated. Although some people might think animal testing is beneficial to humans which is being tested for medicals and cosmetics, in fact it is actually cruel for animals to be tested on medicines and cosmetics.
The first major pro for animal testing is it helps scientists to figure out on developing new vaccines, medicines and drugs. Medical treatments has also been made possible

Peta, an animal research group shows a video that explains why animals are being treated differently. A monkey in the video shows that he is suffering for having a tube go up his nose to his body and also shows that he is tired and suffering from the abuse. The scientist that are testing the animals slam cage doors on the animals faces causing injuries. It also shows that the scientists don’t care about the life of animals, they throw animals to the ground with no emotions on their faces, cuss at the animals for being too loud. But those loud noises from the animals are wailing and crying sounds of fear. From the video being describe, Peta has proven that animals are not being taken care of, in fact they are being used as an objects with cruelty. Scientists say they are using animals because of their DNA structure being similar to humans. It is actually not true, each animal that is being tested has different body reactions. Every animal reacts differently to treatments that are given to them. Not only do the animals react differently to the medicines but in the aftermath the results are misleading. For example, if a mouse is being tested it could react well with the medicine that is given to them, but if a bird is to be tested it can show a negative reaction to the medicines that is given to it, which causes a misleading result. According to Peta, that every year millions of animals are being poisoned and killed in a barbaric and outdated tests. In other words, animals are suffering from chemical poisoning or injuries which would force the animals lives to be in captivity. In regards to Peta, they shows that the animals are suffering due to high doses. Animals that are being tested is having huge amounts of toxins entered into their system. Some example of these animals are rats, mice, rabbits, guinea pigs and many more. It is said that animals that are in groups of high doses suffers abdominal pains, seizures, paralysis and more (peta.org). However, animals is poses as inhuman treatment where they are being restrained without having any sorts of help of being released. “The practice of testing eyelids of rabbits has become a controversial, because animals are mostly experiencing suffering and discomfort.”(greengarage.blog). Animals are just suffering and dying in vain by being subjects in dangerous tests that don’t have human benefits. Using animals in cosmetic testing is useless, because animal testing doesn’t lead to new ones. Overall, animals should not be use in cosmetics testing because it gives benefits to the company, using innocent animals to be in high doses of drugs, and also having them suffering from chemicals
Over 100 Million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned and abused in testing labs every year. Animals are used to test the safety of products, advance scientific research, and develop models to study disease and to develop new medical treatments, all for the sake of mankind. Animals should not be used for scientific research because animal testing is inhumane, other testing methods now exist, and animals are very different from human beings. While animal testing has led to many life-saving cures, animal testing is cruel and inhumane because it involves inflicting pain and harm on the test subject to study its effects and remedies. Testing involves physically restraining, force-feeding, and depriving animals of food and water.
The first pro to animal testing is that it has helped us create lifesaving cures and treatments. The California Biomedical Research Association released a statement saying almost every single medical breakthrough has resulted in the direct use of animals in the last 100 years. Can you believe this? Taking out dogs pancreases helped us discover insulin, chimpanzees helped us get a vaccine for Hepatitis B, and even the polio vaccine was tested on animals. Animal testing has also helped us treat and understand conditions like brain injury, breast cancer, cystic fibrosis, childhood leukemia, tuberculosis, multiple sclerosis, malaria, and many others. It even helped us develop anesthetics, pacemakers, and cardiac value substitutes. Almost every cure for any condition is due to animal testing. Without animal testing, we may not have been able to find many of these cures and find cures for other conditions in the future.
Approximately 60 million animals are used each year in the laboratories of the United States. Whether or not animal testing is cruel or acceptable is an issue many argue over today. Although most acknowledge the negative effects of animals in laboratories, there are many pros in the scientific research.
The ethics behind using animals for experiments and tests has been questioned and debated for years. Many people believe that animal experimentations can be crucial towards medical breakthroughs such as the cure for cancer, HIV/AIDS or asthma. Meanwhile others argue that animals that are used to test cosmetics such as make-up and perfumes are inhuman because is not going to help improve the human race. Animals suffer through multiple types of torture such as being forced to ingest poisonous chemicals, blinded, burned, stapled, and infected with disease viruses. Even though animal experimentation may be considered inhumane to many, animal experimentation is crucial to advancements in medical research and can lead to a better quality of life; on the other hand, animal experimentation should not be used to develop cosmetics because such experimentation is cruel and unnecessary.
This theme song to a popular cartoon is a farce dealing with experiments carried out on animals. In the cartoon one mouse is made very smart and wants to take over the world while the other is clearly not as smart. While the cartoon makes jokes, the reality is that mice and other animals re being used for medical tests every day. For some people this testing brings up ethical questions. One of the biggest questions: is it really necessary to take the lives of animals in the name of science and for the betterment of humanity? For animal rights activists, like People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), the answer is no. PETA pressures labs into halting experiments because they believe that animals are not to be used by humans for "food, clothing, entertainment, or to experiment on" (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals 1). Its stance is that any testing is painful, inhumane, and unnecessary when alternatives are available. The PETA website says that "animals, like humans, have interests that cannot be sacrificed or traded away simply because it might benefit others." (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals 2-3). Essentially, PETA is of the opinion that animals and humans should have identical rights. In their press releases PETA puts out pictures of rabbits with open flesh wounds and dogs with rashes on their skins--all in an attempt to disgust people into sympathy for their cause. In actuality the number of lab animals used has been cut in half in the last 25 years (James-Enger 254). Of the animals used, 90 percent are rats and mice (James-Enger 1). Moreover, 11 million animals die each year in animal shelters (Americans for Medical Progress 2) and an astounding 95 percent ...
“The question is not, ‘Can they reason?’ nor, ‘Can they talk?’ but rather, ‘Can they suffer?’’ This quote by Jeremy Bentham, a British philosopher and animal rights activist refers to the unjust treatments of animals and their helplessness towards the cruelty they suffer from humans. Animal testing should be banned because it is not proven that the product is safe even after being tested by animals, the living conditions lab animals are required to be in are not healthy for any animal, and newer technology can be used as a substitute for animal testing. As the dominating species, we have the upper hand in situations like this but if the roles were reversed and we were lab animals, we wouldn’t want people to be using us as their testers for products that could potentially kill us. Several makeup tests that are usually tested on mice, rats, and guinea pigs consist of tests for the irritation of the skin and eyes where chemicals are put on shaved skin or dropped into an animal’s eyes without any relief for the pain being caused to them. Also, a generally denounced lethal dose test is carried out on the lab animals where they are forced to ingest large amounts of a product’s chemical for scientists to conclude on what is the exact dose that can cause death for the people who buy the product.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is the largest animal rights organization in the world, with more than three million members and supporters. PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for longest periods of time: on factory farms, in the clothing trade, in laboratories, and in the entertainment industry. They also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of rodents, birds, and other “pests” as well as cruelty to domesticated
The fact that animals are still used when animal experimentation is avoidable and not necessary makes animal testing unethical. According to the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (2013), over one hundred million animals suffer and sometimes die from experiments to test chemicals, drugs, foods, and cosmetics (para 3). Although it is good that the companies are concerned that their products do not harm consumers, the law does not require most of these tests animals endure. Furthermore, these tests do not have accurate results, so the animals may suffer, but the product is still sold to the people. While products that burn bunnies’ eyes away are being marketed to consumers, government agencies are using taxpayers’ hard-earned money to fund these horrible, pointless experiments.
Besides, “Animal research has led to vaccines against diptheria, rabies, tuberculosis, polio, measles, mumps, cholera, whooping cough, and rubella. It has meant eradication of smallpox, effective treatment for diabetes and control of infection with powerful antibiotics. Cardiac pacemaker, microsurgery to reattach severed limbs, and heart, kidney, lung, liver and other transplants are all possible because of animal research”(O’Neil 210). In short, animal testing saves lives. Animal testing helps find causes, and cures, of diseases, genetic defects, birth defects, and abnormalities.
During years, animals have been scientifically used to experiment with the purpose of testing medicines, to develop new cures and to support the scientific advancements. Animal testing is needed to preserve human life. Is why experimentation for medical purposes should be carried out, instead of scientists performing dangerous test in humans.
The Cruelty of Cosmetic Testing on Animals Each year, thousands of animals are brutally tortured in laboratories, in the name of cosmetic research. A movement to ban animal testing for cosmetic purposes has been gaining popularity, with many companies hopping on the bandwagon against this research. New alternatives have been developed to eliminate the need to test on animals. This is only a small beginning of what is necessary to end these immoral acts. Animal testing in cosmetics is useless and cruel, and can be accomplished by other methods of research to end the suffering of animals.
Animal testing has long played a part in the science of testing, and it still plays a very important role in the medical world. Testing on animals in order to create a cure for AIDS is one thing, but testing on animals for human vanity is another. Animal testing is used to test the safety of a product. It has kept some very unsafe substances out of the cosmetic world. However, in this day in age, animal testing is not the only way to test the safety of a product. Animal testing in cosmetics has decreased over the years. However, it is still used by many companies in America. Animal testing is not only cruel, but it is also unnecessary in today’s advanced scientific world.
Experimentation has been performed on animals such as rats, mice, and primates in testing various products from cosmetics to drugs. The experimentation of animals usually involves pumping a substance into the animal’s stomach or applying it to the skin and eyes; they are confined to cages and not allowed the freedom of their natural way of life. According to a report by PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals),” this causes great stress and discomfort to the animals (2011).” The animals may not die, but they are scared and maimed for the rest of their lives. Practices such as this are still used today even though there are cheaper and more conclusive ways of conducting this testing; in vitro (test tube), genomic, computer modeling technique, and human volunteering. These research methods are more humane, cost effective alternatives to animal testing. “The harms to the animal conflict with perceived societal benefits that will result if ...
Imagine your sweet cat locked in a cage inside a laboratory with other various animals. Millions of animals every year are locked up in labs for testing. Animals are used to test medications, cosmetics, biology lessons, and for medical training. Thousands of mice, rats, primates, cats, dogs, and other animals are used for testing. Most of these animals will die in cruel testing experiments. Animal testing is tortures to the animals, an unreliable option for medication, and there are better safer options for testing.
Cosmetic animal testing has been a controversial topic for decades but has recently gained more attention from the media due to oppositional organizations such as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). Those in favor of animal experimentation make the argument that they are taking animals’ lives to save humans’, but is it really necessary to subject animals to torturous conditions or painful experiments in the name of science? Animal experimentation needs to be abolished because it is unethical and selfish to destroy an animal 's life.
