Animal-like Assumptions In the book The Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison, the nameless African American main character referred to as IM is in a constant struggle to overcome his feeling of invisibility. Later on in the chapter, Im is invited to a placed called the Battle Royal believing to have been invited for the purpose of giving a speech that has earned him high marks in his community. However before he even has a chance to understand what’s going on, he and some other african american fellows are pushed onto stage and are being told to fight one another.
