One night, all the animals at Mr. Jones’ Manor Farm assemble in a barn to hear old Major, a pig, describe a dream he had about a world where all animals live free from the tyranny of their human masters. Old Major dies soon after the meeting, but the animals — inspired by his philosophy of Animalism — plot a rebellion against Jones. Two pigs, Snowball and Napoleon, prove themselves important figures and planners of this dangerous enterprise. When Jones forgets to feed the animals, the revolution occurs, and Jones and his men are chased off the farm. Manor Farm is renamed Animal Farm, and the Seven Commandments of Animalism are painted on the barn wall.
Initially, the rebellion is a success: The animals complete the harvest and meet every Sunday to debate farm policy. The pigs, because of their intelligence, become the supervisors of the farm. Napoleon, however, proves to be a power-hungry leader who steals the cows’ milk and a number of apples to feed himself and the other pigs. He also enlists the services of Squealer, a pig with the ability to persuade the other animals that the pigs are always moral and correct in their decisions.
Later that fall, Jones and his men return to Animal Farm and attempt to retake it. Thanks to the tactics of Snowball, the animals defeat Jones in what thereafter becomes known as The Battle of the Cowshed. Winter arrives, and Mollie, a vain horse concerned only with ribbons and sugar, is lured off the farm by another human. Snowball begins drawing plans for a windmill, which will provide electricity and thereby give the animals more leisure time, but Napoleon vehemently opposes such a plan on the grounds that building the windmill will allow them less time for producing food.
On the Sunday that the pigs offer the windmill to the animals for a vote, Napoleon summons a pack of ferocious dogs, which chase Snowball off the farm forever. Napoleon announces that there will be no further debates, he also tells them that the windmill will be built after all and lies that it was his own idea, stolen by Snowball. For the rest of the novel, Napoleon uses Snowball as a scapegoat on whom he blames all of the animals’ hardships. Much of the next year is spent building the windmill. Boxer, an incredibly strong horse, proves himself to be the most valuable animal in this endeavor.

Boxer seems to remember exactly the way that it occurred, but Squealer quickly convinces him that his memory is faulty. Actually, Snowball sneaks in every night under cover of darkness, and performs all sorts of mischief. The animals are disturbed when they hear this. Napoleon checks out every square inch of the farm for any track or evidence of

His power comes into play once their former leader passes away and the the spontaneous rebellion of the farm animals drive their humans off the estate. From this event, him as well as another pig, Snowball, take charge. He drives Snowball out to gain full control of the farm, informing the rest that he is actually a traitor. The rest of the livestock is too dim-witted to recognize this as a lie, and so are kept vigorously working on end in fear that Snowball will come back seeking havoc. He proceeds to ensure that he has all the animals in the grooves of his hooves by having Moses the raven spread the thought of Sugarcandy Mountain, the place that is supposed to grant happiness in the afterlife if life was spent doing hard work. The numerous lies Napoleon tells allow him to command the farm animals at his every
There is a substantial amount of conflicts that occur in this satirical story. Often these conflicts are between the pigs and the rest of the animals. Only a minute portion of the animals didn’t really have some sort of conflict with Snowball, Napoleon, Squealer, or the rest of the dominating pigs. Overall, Snowball was a better leader than Napoleon, yet the animals reacted differently to Napoleon than to Snowball.
Old Major, a eminent pig on the Jones farm, is regarded as the wise superior by the other animals. He has had a strange dream and calls the other animals together to talk about their disastrous situation. Old major declares: ';Let us face it, our lives are miserable, laborious and short';. He declares in Marxist terms that Man is the problem: ';Only get rid of the Man, and the produce of our labour would be our own. Almost overnight we could be rich and free. What then must we do? Why, work night and day, body and soul, for the overthrow of the human race! That is my message to you, comrades. Rebellion!';
Mr. Jones was unable to defeat the animals, therefore the animals got a boost of confidence. Now at this point Mollie runs away and Snowball begins his plans for a windmill. When Snowball’s plans are finished, Napoleon’s dog’s start to chase him off the farm. The farm just lost the best leader they could have had. They loose their chance to give input on what direction the farm should go, and Napoleon begings blaming Snowball for all the things that he did not do. Now Napoleon sets the animals to work on Sundays again and acquires Mr. Whymper as the farm’s broker. Napoleon starts to sell some of the farm’s produce. And the pigs start sleeping one hour later, and in beds. Then the windmill gets blown over and Snowball gets the blame. At this point the pigs still continue to abuse the power and stealing from the other animals.
So ever since the animals started to take control of the farm and the animals they finished up changing everything. The animals even ended up changing the farms name from “Manor Farm” to “Animal Farm”. But out of all the animals in the farm the smartest animals were the pigs. And the meanest pig out of all of them was Napoleon. Everything was a mess in the farm ever since the pigs got rid of Mr. Jones. Later on Mr. Jones tires to come back and get back his farm but the pigs did not let him.
Snowball’s character, based on the head of the Red Army’s leader, Leon Trotsky; both were similar with success in debates and the constant disagreement with Stalin and or Napoleon. Major debates held between Trotsky and Stalin, or with Snowball and Napoleon, people started to take sides which in real life formed the Leftist and Rightist. Pigeons sent to send to rally for Animal Farm and for him to help him win debates. He soon won the debate, due to majority rules, that was when Napoleon began plotting, Snowball explosion. Snowball came up with the idea of the Windmill to help gain more profit, towards the farm and finished the blueprints for the windmill soon after. Snowball went to tell all the animals about his idea of a windmill but,
From the death of Old Major, Snowball, Napoleon, and Squealer replaced him. At first things started off pretty well; the harvest was very good the first year and the reading and writing system had helped some, but had limited success on others. In time, the leaders of animal farm started to have mixed feelings. Snowball and Napoleon were in constant disagreement. An important meeting that was held ended with an astonishing outcome. One decision that was made was concerning the windmill project and the most important decision made was who would be the head animal. Snowball and Napoleon each gave their input on what needs to be done around the farm. “Snowball stood up and, though occasionally interrupted by bleating from the sheep, set forth his reasons for advocating the building of the windmill. Then Napoleon stood up to reply. He said ver quietly that the windmill was a nonsense and that he advised nobody to vote for it” (57).
They create the Seven Commandments and all of the animals begin to learn to read and write. Literacy is hard for most of the animals and because of this the pigs who know how to read and write become the leaders and caretakers of Animal Farm. During one of the meetings, Snowball decided it should come to a vote that the animals work to build a windmill. Napoleon does not like this idea and he uses the new puppies that he has trained to chase Snowball out of the farm. From then on Napoleon takes
After a while, the animals ended up rebelling, and managed to kick out Mr. Jones. During the beginning of “Animal Farm’s” reign under Snowball and Napoleon’s (main characters) lead, it brought the animals on Manor Farm together into a peaceful world. However, after this initial stance of power, Snowball and Napoleon began to fight for it. In the end, Napoleon ends up with control of the farm and Snowball is never seen again. Power is a corrupting influence in Animal Farm and both Snowball and Napoleon’s way of leading are very different.
When it comes to the building of the windmill, which is Snowball’s plan, he thinks that building a windmill will produce more food and the animals will have a better future, but Napoleon disagrees with him saying that it will cost them a lot. And when the plan comes to the point of being voted, Napoleon with the help of his nine dogs sends away Snowball from the farm, considering him a traitor in the front of animals. So Snowball becomes scapegoat for all the animals of the farm. Animals are surprised by the act of Snowball’s expelling, but there is Napoleon and his spokesman Squealer to convince them that they
Once Napoleon came back he overthrew Snowball with the help from his dogs, chased him clear off the farm so he would never come back. All the animals worked hard to bring in the crop for them to eat during the winter and all year round. The animals get the same amount of food except for the pigs of course, they are better than the other animals, they make the rules and they get rewarded for everyone else's work. The pigs started to live in the farmhouse, and sleep in the human’s beds, drink alcohol, wear the farmers old cloths, sneak extra food, and even start to make beer. Napoleon hired a man to buy the farm supplies, only Napoleon was to talk to the man who came to the farm once a week. Snowball, the outcasted pig, was in cahoots with some of the animals still on the farm, when Napoleon found out he was outraged and he started to kill the animals who confessed to helping Snowball or even having him come to them in a
Snowball, who is the original inventor of the windmill, wanted it to ease the workload off of the animal’s shoulders. However, Napoleon, uses the windmill as support from the animals, this helps him establish his dictator persona. “But of all their controversies, none was so bitter as the one that took place over the windmill” (Orwell 48). The windmill then became the center of controversy. Even though Snowball is legitimately the correct one to be trusted and what he is saying is true, the animals still support Napoleon because they are manipulated by his words. Napoleon uses Snowball as a scapegoat for the windmill’s first destruction, this causes the animals to still believe in him. This brings him to
