Paper Reflection Over the course of the past month I have learned a lot about how the human mind works. More specifically, how animals play a part in a person’s mental health. However, along the way my original question did end up changing for the better. My new question did end up getting answered and teaching me about the emotional and chemical changes that can occur during a brain during Animal-Assisted Therapy. Although I did find out a lot about how animals affect the mental health of a person, I still have questions regarding why animals are so good for a person as opposed to something like medicine. On the other hand, the answers I did receive were very much like what I originally thought would show up since I previously had knowledge on the topic. Prior to actually doing research, I believed that animals helped steady the stress and anxiety levels in a human. However, I also believed that animal or pet therapy was just an emotional benefit for a person. I was surprised when I later learned that AAT causes both emotional and chemical benefits for humans. It was also very interesting to me to learn how attached a person can become to a pet overtime and that animals …show more content…
This research paper process was much different than those that I have written in the past, however it was much easier to compose a paper at the end. I enjoyed having several plans and doing research ahead of time rather than doing a little bit of research before starting and later on realizing that the topic may not be for me. I also enjoyed being able to pick my topic instead of being assigned one. The annotated bibliography was very time consuming, but I was very grateful to have it when the time came to actually start writing the

The American Psychological Association (2013) approves research on animals as long as the test meets the association’s guidelines. The guideline is very in-depth, but the two especially important points are that the research has an acceptable scientific purpose, and has a reasonable chance of improving the health or welfare of animals or humans. The guideline advises against tests that harm the animal, however if the researchers can prove that the test is important enough they may be able to conduct their studies. Is there a middle ground for psychological research in animals? Perhaps there is a more Rogerian solution to the use of animals in psychological research?...
The US Census in 2000 has reported that, during the late 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century there has been a large increase in the number of elderly people living in the United States of America, which will likely result in an increased incidence of dementia. In recent years, dog-assisted therapy has been widely regarded as a generally accepted method of providing elderly residents with good feelings and an increase in self-maintenance behavior. The aim of this study is to examine the psychological and behavioral effects of dog-assisted therapy on elderly residents with dementia. I predict that dog-assisted therapy will help elderly people with dementia with their behavioral and emotional problems such as aggression, agitation and psychosis.
Everyone has emotions and everyone deals with them differently. The psychologists in Japan have been more clinically correct and culturally sensitive to use psychotherapy techniques for dealing with depression. When the western markets came into their territory, the markets slowly began to manipulate the Japanese. In contrary, the people of that country might be getting more help from their psychological immune systems by not changing the way they label their feelings than they do with the medications. Animals who are constantly disrupted by humans have the ability to get tempered and show this anger through aggressive behavior. Elephants who have been taken away from their families and homes go through the most traumas and as the emotions start to build up, one day it will all just trigger. We cannot just sit back and watch these animals while they go through such distress. We know we have to help these animals without disrupting their environments. We can do so by psychologically healing these animals. Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, and to heal. It has been said, “time heals all wounds.” I

Equine-Assisted therapy so far has shown commendable results. “Equestrian Therapy” acknowledges that “it is a fairly new technique for autism and other disorders that has been providing promising results such that many are consistently utilize therapy animals in their treatment programs and only for autism but also for people with Asperger’s syndrome. Equine Therapy helps develop the motor skills of a child while they learn to ride a horse. The calming
As the animals are being passed out, the patients begin smiling, laughing, and talking to the animals. They stroke their coats, play with them, and feed them snacks that they have saved for this occasion. While the patients are interacting with other students and staff, two of the students begin making notes on the activities that are taking place in the room. The patients, staff, and students are clearly enjoying themselves, but there are greater benefits to be found here. Research has been done in the area of human-animal companionship and security, and stress management.

For many humans, a pet provides unconditional love and affection. Others feel an overwhelming calming, happy feeling when they are around animals. According to The American Veterinary Medical Association, studies have shown that due to these positive emotions that are stirred, the presence of and interaction with animals can lower heart rates and blood pressure. Animals that meet specific training criteria can become an integral part of a treatment process for a variety of psychological and physiological problems.
From all the things that I have covered, none of them were as trying as the inevitable research paper. I was worried about the final product and the grade I would receive because I have not had much luck with writing research papers in the past. I find them to be too tedious when having to cite research and quotations that I often did it incorrectly. My works cited page was often messy and unorganized and I could never find enough things to say about my topic in order to fulfill the designated word quota. This time around, I felt a little more confident because I had an outlined guide found in my “Common Sense” text that helped me overcome my worry about the specifics of citing and quoting as well as the organization of my works cited page....
This was the first organized research paper I had ever made. I learnt to accumulate and organize research data into useful information. This improved my skills to manage textual resources. Besides all this, I was able to study about something that I was really interested in. This experience has shown me the way to research on topics I want to know more about. I think now I can truly say, “Everything happens for a reason.”
Writing this paper has been rewarding to me. It has helped me come to know a different me. Set goals for myself and helped me put things into perspective.
Animal welfare is a fairly recent, yet troubling argument in society. This subject is a strong argument on a variety of opinions.
