Late in 2012, a pit bull puppy named Trooper was leashed in the back of the pickup truck and was nearly dragged to death for over a mile across the Interstate 55 in Kentucky. There was also a similar case reported in 2011 in Missouri. A dog named Cricket was dragged behind her van’s owner. In 2013, people found many cases of animal cruelty in Viet Nam. A dog was found with black electrical tape wound around her muzzle in Southern Vietnam. The tape was so tight that she could not open her mouth to eat or drink. Recently, the Animal Rescue Association had written a letter to contact the members of Congress to request Obama Administration to appoint an Animal Protection Act for changing the agenda of animal cruelty. We also hope that President Obama will give a voice for animal in the White House and commit to achieve the progress for animals through federal legislations. Moreover, the Animal Rescue Association will hold a meeting named “Taking Action for Animal” in South West Oklahoma on this December with the aim to protect animals from inhumane treatments as well as to call for invested capital and donation from many benefactors and
Robert Gonzales is only one of many people to commit animal cruelty. Kevin Brunson was also accused of harming an animal. He starved his dog, Rambo, until he weighed only fifty-one pounds. A normal dog his size would weigh around one hundred and twenty-five pounds. Rambo was seventy-four pounds underweight. A dog named, Lacey had scabbing around the eyes and other injuries from being abused. “Lashawn Whitehead of Greensboro, admitted to police that she beat her dog for fifteen minutes, then set it on fire. The dog ran away, and she was found. Her injuries were burned ears, a broken jaw, and teeth. She was adopted into a new loving family.” (Cawthon 2) All animals are affected when it comes to animal abuse. Horses have been reported to be starved and in very poor living conditions. Owners don’t clean stalls, feed the animals, or take care of the horses grooming needs. The horses become depressed to due to the lack of care they receive. Sixteen horses were found at Gina Rapuano’s Farm, Apache, Willy, and Destiny are merely three of the horses greatly in need of care. Apache was starved so much you could see his ribs; he was infested with worms, and needed hoof and dental care. Willy had trouble walking, and horrible eye infections. Destiny had such bad dental care that he could not eat properly, and was starving. “The horses eyes were dull; they were not alert. They t...
Animal cruelty is such a heinous act and pits are the number one candidate for it. So many are left for dead on the streets, chained to a pole and left, or even put down just because they are Pit bulls. “Studies estimate
You have all seen the distressing American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the ASPCA, commercials. Sarah McLachlan heartbreakingly belts out “In the Arms of an Angel” as photos of abused cats and dogs flash across your television screen, compelling you for your help. While there has been much progress in terms of protection of animals recently, thanks in part to organizations like the ASPCA, animal cruelty laws need to be altered because the laws are not strict enough to discourage abusers from repeating their crimes, animal cruelty has been linked to other types of violence, and many animal cruelty laws do not encompass all types of animal abuse.
As public concern about animal welfare has increased in the last few years [5,6,7,8], NGOs in USA have started to increase their interest in the inclusion
Animal abuse is described generally as any act or omission that causes unnecessary or unreasonable harm to an animal. Animal abuse are vary and can lead to different forms. These may include, tormenting or beating an animal, executing an animal in a harsh way, binding or transporting an animal in a way that is improper for its welfare, neglecting to give fitting living conditions, neglecting to give proper or satisfactory sustenance or water for an animal and neglecting to give suitable treatment to infection or injury (Animal Cruelty, n.d.). In general, for an act to be considered as animal cruelty, it must be a non-accidental, socially unacceptable, enacted on a vertebrate animal, causing pain, suffering and distress or death. (Battle, 2013).
Executive Summary Every 60 seconds, an animal is abused. Dogs, cats, horses, and many other types of animals are being neglected and tortured everyday, yet resulting in few and minor consequences for the perpetrators. Animal abuse is prevalent in the United States and has been an ongoing issue since the 1970's, and prior to. Society as a whole has chosen to avoid the facts and arguments about animal cruelty, because to some it is seen as acceptable and typical. It becomes much more frowned upon when people actually see the results of the cruelty, especially in the media.
Would anyone ever hurt their best friend on purpose? What about man's best friend? Dogs have the highest overall number of animal cruelty cases each year. There have been many laws put in place and movements toward prevention, but it still happens on a daily basis. Dog fighting, dogs used for sports, and animal testing, are all forms of animal cruelty.
In the past, the rights of humans have been through many up and downs, but the rights of animals have been ignored. Every year in the United States, about 1.5 million sheltered animals are euthanized. Just because an animal is left in the shelter waiting for families to adopt, it does not mean its rights can just be ignored. It is understandable that shelters euthanize animals, because space and resources are limited; but perhaps a better solution can be created due to the problems. Shelters will not and cannot be the only solution, which means more and alternative programs must be developed. Programs such as lost and found for pets, lower priced pet identification programs, and classes to help owners understand their pets better. Those programs are some examples that will reduce the number of animals that are taken into the shelters, and lower the price americans are wasting on killing innocent animals. The reason more and more animals have been taken into shelters, is because their owners, breeders, and sellers have been abandoning them. The awareness of abandonment of animals need be raised, and the voice of animals need to be heard. The cruelty of killing animals can be stopped, but effort must be made by
Animal abuse is a nationwide issue due to multiple causes, but also has many proposed solutions. An abuser’s emotional state is an important cause of abuse. There are also external causes, such as a lack of humane law enforcement and an uncertainty for the status of animals in society. However, there are many resolutions being proposed as well—which, would stop the abuse cycle in multiple places. Animal abuse is a serious issue in the United States, with many prospective solutions.
It is a sad truth that many animals in the United States are without homes. In fact, four million cats and dogs are put down in animal shelters annually (“Pet Overpopulation”). However, there is one organization trying to change this statistic. The Progressive Animal Welfare Society is focused on giving animals a home, as well as educating the public about animal care.
“Man is the highest rated animal, at least among all the animals who returned the questionnaire (Brault, 2009).” For years humans have been using animals for experimentation, food, clothing, sport and entertainment, manual labor, and let us not forget man’s best friend. The unethical treatment of animals can best be resolved by deontology contrasted with ethical egoism.
For animal welfare and the causes of animal abuse new research has been created. Since animal abuse is fairly a new subject, new research is constantly brought up. In the Bahamas a study was done in the College of Bahamas, and it states that, “…dogs were equally likely to be considered members of the household in homes without domestic violence,” (Fielding 197). Homes with violence show that humans substitute human victims for animal victims. Animal rights activists are trying to break down symbolic boundaries betw...
Animal abuse is a travesty in our world that must be stopped. Every year, millions of animals suffer because of human actions, directly or indirectly. Whether it’s abused dogs and cats or even mistreated circus animals, their suffering is as real as it would be if it happened to us. Even animals who are raised on farms simply for human consumption should not have to suffer. One of the worst parts of humanity’s role in animal abuse is that there are easy ways for people to help that they are either ignorant of or simply refuse to do. There are many examples of animals who are abused by humans, but there are also ways for people to help prevent and put an end to animal abuse.
