Angelina Jolie Autobiography

On a sunny day in Los Angeles, California on June 4 , 1975 an actress named Angelina Jolie was born. Angelina was born to an actor named Jon Voight who was well known for his role in “Coming Home” and an actress Marcheline Betrand. Angelina was the youngest of her siblings , she had an older brother named James Haven. When Angelina was two her parents split and she moved to Palisades, New York with her mother and brother.

While growing up money was tight ,but her mom always tried to take her and James to the movies as often as she could. The family outings to the movies were what inspired Angelina to become an actress. Five years later her family moved back to Los Angeles where she attended Lee Strasberg Theatre

Institute. Angelina trained at the Institute for 2 years and was in a lot of stage productions.

Angelina went to Beverly Hills High School , where she didn’t fit in with the other children, because her mom didn’t have the jobs the other children’s parents had. She was teased by other students, who bullied her for being extremely skinny and wearing glasses and braces. She tried modeling, but it didn’t work out. She later moved to

Moreno High School, where she became a "punk outsider," wearing all-black clothing, going out a lot, and experimenting with knife play with her boyfriend that lived with her. She then dropped out of her acting classes and tried to become a funeral director. Taking courses at home studying embalming. At age 16, after she broke up with her boyfriend, Jolie finished high school and rented her own apartment.She later returned to Theater studies.

As a teenager, Jolie found it hard to connect with other people, and as a result she started cutting herself. She also struggled with insomnia , anorexia, and an eating disorder.She also began using drugs by the age twenty she used "just about every drug possible," particularly Heroin. Jolie struggled with depression and tried to commit suicide . At age 19 and again at 22,she tried killing herself, when she tried to hire a hitman to kill her.When she was 24, she experienced a nervous breakdown and was admitted for 72 hours to UCLA Medical Center’s Psychiatric Ward.

Angelina began her professional career of film making in 1993, when she played her first leading role in the science/fiction movie “Cyborg 2 “, she was a human robot designed for corporation and assassinations. She was not pleased with the film that she did not audition for any other roles for a year. Following a supporting role in the movie “Without Evidence “, she starred in her first Hollywood picture, “Hackers” . Hackers

didn’t make much of a profit at the box office. While making the movie Hackers Jolie had a relationship with British actor named Jonny Lee Miller who she later married on March 28, 1996. Angelina and Johnny later separated in September 1997 and divorced on February 3, 1999.

Angelina’s breakthrough was when she won a Golden Globe Award for her acting performance in TNT’s “George Wallace” (1997). Which was about a man who was a segregational Alabama Governor and Presidential Candidate George Wallace, portrayed by Gary Sinsine. Angelina starred as George Wallace’s second wife who was named Cornelia, which was the highlight of the film according to Lee Winfrey of The Philadelphia Inquirer. “George Wallace” received many good reviews by critics and awards such as , the Golden Globe Awards for Best Miniseries or Television Film. Angelina also was nominated for an Emmy Award for her performance.

Jolie started dating a model/actress Jenny Shimuzi on the set of Foxfire (1996). She later said that she would have married Jenny if she had not married her husband Billy Bob Thorton, whom she married on May 5 , 2000 . Jolie identified herself as bisexual . Angelina and Billy Bob announced that they were going to adopt a child from Cambodia in March 2002 , but ended up separating. Their divorce was final on May 27,

2003. She adopted the Cambodian child who she named Maddox Chivan on her own on March 10, 2002.

In 2005 Angelina scored one of the main roles in “Mr.

& Mrs. Smith” where she met her now husband Brad Pitt.They started dating during the making of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. In 2005 Angelina adopted her second child from Abada , Ethiopia. Zahara was believed to be an AIDS orphan , her family left her when she became ill. The adoption was finalized on July 6, 2005. Brad Pitt adopted Angelina’s children on January 19 , 2006 and changed their surname to Jolie-Pitt. Angelina and Brad confirmed they were expecting a child on January 2006. The baby girl Shiolh Nouvel was born in Swakopmund, Namibia on May 27 , 2006. Jolie adopted her 4th child a boy named Pax Thien on February 21, 2008. Pax was an orphan from Vietnam. Jolie had twins, a boy and a girl, on July 12, 2008, they were born in Nice, France. Their names were Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline.

Angelina Jolie is well known for her Humanitarian work. In August of 2002, she was awarded the inaugural Humanitarian Award from the Church World Service’s Immigration and Refugee Program. In October of 2003 she was the first person to get the Citizen Of The World Award by the United Nations Correspondents Association. Angelina was given the Global Humanitarian Award by the UNA-USA in October 2005.

She recieved the Freedom Award from the International Rescue Commitee in November 2007.In October 2011, UN High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres gave Jolie a gold pin for being the most longest serving staff to recognize her decade of being a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador.In November 2013, Jolie received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, an honorary Academy Award, from the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Pictures Art and Sciences.In June 2014, she was awarded the Honorary Dame Commander of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (DCMG) for her services to the UK's foreign policy and campaigning to end sexual violence in war zones. Queen Elizabeth || presented Jolie with the insignia of her honorary Damehood in a private ceremony in October.

In order to connect her Cambodian-born son, Maddox, with his homeland and heritage, Angelina bought a house in the country in which he was born in, 2003. The house was 39 hectares and was located in the northwestern province Battamband. It was nearby the Samlout National Park in the Cardamom Mountains , which had been filled with poachers who were threatening endangered species . Jolie then bought the park’s 60,000 hectares and turned it into a wildlife reserve area and named the project after her son, Maddox Jolie Project. To recognize her efforts of conservation King Norodom Shiamoni gave her Cambodian citizenship on July 31, 2005.

In November of 2006 Angelina wanted to expand the project, so she renamed it the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation (MJP). She wanted to create Asia’s first to MIllennium Village, to achieve that she had to follow certain UH development goals.What inspired her was when she meet the founder of Millennium Promise/Economist Jeffrey Sachs in Davos at a World Economic Forum. Angelina was invited to speak at the forum in 2005 and 2006. Jeffrey and Angelina filmed an MTV special in 2005 about a trip they took together in Western Kenya to a Millennium Village, they called it THe Diary of Angelina Jolie & Dr.Jeffrey Sachs.In the mid-2007 around 6,000 villageres, 72 employees, and former poachers who were now rangers that lived and worked at MJP in ten villages.In theses villages there were schools, roads, and a soy milk factory, which Angelina herself funded amd ran the headquarters at home.

On April 2012 Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt announced their engagement after being together for 7 years. In 2013 at age 37 Jolie, got surgery for a preventive double mastectomy after finding she had a 87% chance of getting breast cancer because in her genetics there was a defective BRCA1 gene. The surgery lowered her chances to 5%. But, because of the surgery it caused her to have premature menopause.On August 23, 2014 Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were married after 10 years of being together.

After three and a half years of not being on the big screen , Jolie played the main role in “Maleficent” (2014), a live action of Disney’s 1959 animated “Sleeping Beauty”. Maleficent earned $70 million at the North American box office and over $100

million in other markets. The film went on to gross $757.8 million worldwide, becoming the fourth-highest grossing film of the year and Jolie's highest-grossing film ever.Next Jolie directed “Unbroken” (2014), about World War II hero Louis Zamperini(1917–2014), a former Olympic track star who survived a plane crash over sea and spent two years in a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp. Jolie's third movie that she directed was “By the Sea” (2015), in which she and her husband, Brad Pitt had the leading roles. It was their first movie together since Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2005.The movie received little recognition.

Now in 2016 Angelina travels around the world with her 6 children and is happily married.
