A fisherman sits in his boat on the open sea, alone save for the fish below the water’s surface. The calmness of the ocean is disrupted by something underneath, something big. Fear seeps through the fisherman’s heart as he sees the shiny gray dorsal fin pierce the sun-glinted surface of the ocean. The creature stops its ritual and pulls its head out of the water, revealing the face of a great white: scars from countless battles in the ocean’s depths, a mouth full of lethal daggers, and dark, savage eyes.

The yellow stingray is a member of the Urolophidae, or round ray family. In 2015 only 59 shark attacks have occurred around the world compared to the millions of sharks killed by humans every year. Due to these accidental shark attacks people tend to think that sharks, especially Great Whites are evil creatures with malice intentions when attacks do occur; but, on the contrary that is wrong. Sharks are not the only beautiful and unique creatures in the ocean, they also play a vital role in our ecosystem; however, due to human interference they might not be around much longer, through awareness sharks can be protected from endangerment.
A way to identify a fish is by their body structure, they have fins and a backbone. The anatomical adaptation of fins helps them survive and makes them and marine animal unique in that they use them to maintain their position, move, steer, and stop. Most fish have scales and breathe though gills. Most fish also have a mucus layer that helps them prevent infections. With in what we consider “fish,” there are many that don’t very much look like they are earth creatures. The strangest fish species are found in deep ocean waters, such as the Pacific Barreleye, which is distinctive in that, its head is a fluid-filled transparent shield. Among other strange looking fish there are the Sheepshead and the Parrotfish

The appearance of the cavefish and the minnow suggests a common ancestry since they possess homologous structures. Based on observations made on the characteristics of the cavefish and minnow, the structures of the fins, tails, and overall shape of the bodies make the two types of fish seem exceedingly related. Both fish share the same one-part dorsal fin, caudal fin (tail), anal fin, and pelvic fins. These fins or also likely similar in bones, cartilage, or muscle composition. Even more, both the minnow and cavefish share the same lateral line running down the middle of their bodies.
A sailfish travels through the water at super speeds which can be in excess of 68 mph. When they travel at this speed other predators are not able to catch them. Their predominant predator is the fisherman. Other enemies are various types of sharks, marlins, or any other carnivore capable of swallowing them. Most sailfish are blue on their back which fades into yellow on the sides. Their underbelly is usually bright silver with black dots or lines mixed in. Sailfish prefer warm water over cold so that their bodies are able to move faster if the need arises to catch food or swim away from a ...

The deep sea anglerfish is one of about 200 species of anglerfish that are currently living in the deep oceans today (Animals Time). The definition of the word “anglerfish” means a fish having a large mouth with a long filament for luring prey. A synonym of the word anglerfish is goosefish (Dictionary). The scientific name is Melanocetus johnsoni (Seasky). The deep sea anglerfish belongs to the class of Lophiiformes (Animals Time). The deep sea anglerfish also has a nickname which is known as the common black devil because of how it looks. Due to its dark skin color, and its scary looks and sharp ferocious teeth it has been seen as a mysterious sea creature (Seasky).
The fish also had two ventrical tentacles trailing from its sides that were each tipped with red and blue lights, and large prominent teeth that the researcher described as being reminiscent of a barracuda’s. Beebe classified this fish with scaleless black dragonfishes of the subfamily Melanostomiidae, but the largest known dragonfish of the time was a mere 15 inches in length.
Next there are over 400 different species of sharks. Hammerhead sharks are the most recognizable fish in the sea. They also have eyes

The Ocean Sunfish or Mola mola is an interesting species. Female sunfish usually lay somewhere around 300,000,000 eggs at a time, which is more eggs than any living vertebrate, though only a few of those eggs ever hatch. A sunfish fry resembles a tiny pufferfish because of its small spines it has around it, which later disappear in adulthood. Sunfish colours vary from a light-ish brown to bright silver. There may be certain patterns on the skin, however this is pretty rare. Sunfish diet consists of mostly jellyfish or squid, though this can vary depending mostly on the size. A group of sunfish is called a school, however the sunfish usually only travels alone or with one other person.
