Transformational leadership theory emphasizes on how a leader can acquire the ability to affect and motivate his followers to succeed beyond expectations. A transformational leader is one, whose vision for the future motivates and excites his followers. For this reason, a transformational leader is judged according to what he achieves as opposed to his character. Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter was the least charismatic leader of all the American presidents. However, his use of transformational leadership to develop his agenda and vision was unprecedented. Furthermore, a transformational leader is more likely to be effective in a chaotic environment. Carter was faced with a stagnant economy, double-digit inflation, and oil and gas shortages.
Certain leaders have more power in persuading their followers and making them do as they say than others. One type of effective leader is a transformational leader. A transformational leader leads people by giving their followers a sense of purpose and a common goal (Chambliss and Eglitis pg. 111). In the Milgram study, the authoritative prop told the unsuspecting teacher that the purpose of the research was to see if people learn more effectively if there’s a punishment. Whenever the teacher was doubting his actions, the leader gave reassurance by saying lines like, “…it’s absolutely essential for you to continue…” (The Milgram Experiment Documentary), which helped encourage the participant and make him believe that what he was doing was necessary. That’s a quality that a transformational leader possesses.
Transformational leaders, like Colin Powell, inspire a shared vision by envisioning future success. These leaders motivate the team and visualize the goals for the entire organization. They foster collaboration and teamwork to achieve mission success. They recognize individual success and celebrate team accomplishments.
Through literature review, the modern age ruler, Elizabeth I and StarTrack’s Captain John Picard were both considered to have qualities of a transformational leader, which I found to be interesting. The modern age is one of my personal favorites, so I actually purchased the book Elizabeth I, CEO. Additionally, I found the video, A Minute With Maxwell to be very informative. Schwartz and Bolton (2012) recommends integrating the AONE concepts to construct and sustain healthy work environments for nursing. These competencies support leader’s connection in overcoming the challenges of the healthcare setting by satisfying a positive professional environment (PPE) concentrated on excellence in nursing and patient

World leaders have reputations for changing the lives of many people. A good leader should be ready to sacrifice anything for his people and fight for their rights, as well as guiding them both politically and ethically. Those who have made a difference in the world by fighting for a cause will forever be remembered in their nations.
I see myself developing into this type of leader by working to create valuable and positive change and empowering others to become leaders that also create valuable and positive change that they believe in. I will empower others to gain a sense of identity and self to the mission, be a role model that inspires others, challenge others to take ownership of their work, and provide understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of others. To be a transformational leader I will need to display the ability to communicate clearly, listen, collaborate, empower, build strong healthy relationships, and provide others with intellectual stimulation.
As stated in Discourses of Charisma: Barack Obama’s First 6 Months as President of the USA, “charismatic leadership can be divided into ethical and unethical charisma” (Takala, Tanttu, Lamsa, & Virtanan, 2013, p. 155). For the above noted reason, the charismatic leader is heavily reliant on impression management, resourcefulness, and manipulation. When considering methods to garner production and increase performance, then, the charismatic leader seeks domination as a means to complete self-interest for their own purposes. This observation is in stark contrast to the individual consideration exhibited by the transformational leader and the characteristic of servitude from the servant

Intro In today’s society, leaders are expected to be guided by their actions and allow others to follow their lead. The relationship between the leaders of the United States of America and Germany has always been an awkward one. The countries have fought on the opposite sides of two World Wars, and for most of the late 20th Century, Germany was a divided nation. Today, the two countries are allies, but the leaders have a large gap to bridge to stay on good terms. In 2014, that is up to Barack Obama, the first black President of the United States of America, and Angela Merkel, the first female Chancellor of Germany.
Transformational leaders are needed to transform low performing organizations to acceptable to high performance. At other times, the leader is expected to move an organization from a crisis. In order to accomplish these tasks, the leader must overhaul the organization culture or subculture. This task is accomplished by nine ways of transforming others: 1. Raise others awareness. The leader makes others aware of the rewards and how to achieve them, i.e. pride in the job or financial incentives. 2. Help others look beyond self-interest. The transformational leader helps others to look at the “big picture” by describing an entire scenario, i.e. if we hire more employees to do x, we will have to make cuts in other areas. 3. Help people find self-fulfillment. The leader helps others not to focus on minor satisfactions, i.e. getting a job done before the deadline ...
