People have elective surgeries as well as emergency surgeries every day. The medication needed for these surgeries is administered by an anesthesiologist. Anesthesiologists must make sure that their patient gets the proper care they need for pain management. Anesthesiology is one of the highest paying jobs on the market. Accordingly, the schooling needed to become this highly trained doctor requires a lengthy time investment. On average, a student has to be in school eleven years to fulfill an anesthesiology degree. Job projections forecast a promising future for those seeking employment in this field of study. Anesthesiologists have very important jobs for the well being of people.
Anesthesiologists take care of patients’ body signs while they are in surgery and also with their pain management during surgery (“Physicians” para. 10). During the surgery they give the patient anesthetics or drugs. These drugs help relieve pain the patient feels during their surgery or any other procedure (“Physicians” para. 10). They will also position the patient onto the operating table to make them feel comfortable and surgically accessible for surgery (“Anesthesiologist” What’s para. 1). Most use local, intravenous, spinal, or caudal methods to inject the anesthetic for sedation; the anesthesiologist prepares the patient for surgery (“Anesthesiologist” What’s para. 1). They record the types and amounts of amnesia used(“Anesthesiologist” What’s para. 1). They also watch over the patient’s body temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing rate (“Physicians” para. 10). After the procedure, they decide when the patient has recovered from the anesthetic and is able to go home (“Anesthesiologist” What’s para. 1). Anesthesiologists can ...

...ave very important jobs that they have to fulfil. These jobs are essential to many people for medical care. Without the help of anesthetics; consequently, many people would suffer with pain in surgeries and any other procedures. An anesthesiologist has a crucial job, they need to make sure people are comfortable and ready for injection of anesthetics.

A medical assistant’s cooperation and presence during a surgical procedure is essential in order to provide satisfactory patient care. Although the role of the medical assistant may not shine though as strongly as the physician’s, their subtle presence provide organization in the form of administrative and clinical tasks to facilitate the physician’s demanding profession. During a surgical procedure, such as an incision and drainage of an abscess, the medical assistant is the patient’s first point of contact. The medical assistant’s role in any surgical procedure will begin as the patient schedules an appointment with the providing health care provider.
Brody, Michael, and Donald Martin. “The Role of Anesthesiologists.” Physicians Protecting Patients. N.p. N.d. Web. October 21, 2015. An anesthesiologist is a physician who has received at least 8 years of schooling and has completed a residency program dealing with anesthesiology. Now, a licensed physician, an anesthesiologist deals with the administration of anesthesia during many medical procedures, including surgical or obstetric procedures, and pain management for acute and chronic illnesses, or cancer related pain. Anesthesiologists are also in charge of “anesthesia care teams” that include the anesthesiologist, an anesthesia assistant, certified registered nurse anesthetist, and an anesthesia technician. As the leader of the care team, the anesthesiologist is responsible for assessing the patient before, during, and after medical procedures, as well as developing and monitoring performance and quality of practices and standards in regards to administering anesthesia. Everyday life in a hospital is complete and absolute chaos. There are doctors and nurses running everywhere to treat patients, ambulances coming through every so often, children and patients crying, and surgeons telling a family that their loved one did not make it. However, outside of all that craziness is an operating room (OR). A place filled with pressure, intensity, high hopes, and stress. There to help control the environment is a surgical technologist. While preparing patients for surgery, surgical technologists manage the equipment and operating room, follow the instructions of the surgeon, and ensure the safety of the patient.
The journey of becoming an anesthesiologist is a long, drawn out process. After high school, 14 years of college and training is needed. The first step taken to pursue the career of an anesthesiologist starts as early as high school. It is recommended to take classes in high school that will be a benefit when planning for college classes. It is also advised to maintain a high GPA throughout high school. A high school diploma is required to obtain this occupation. In addition to high school, a four-year bachelor’s degree is required. These four years can also be known as undergraduate school. This is only the beginning of the lengthy journey that is necessary to practice anesthesiology.
In the past decade, Canada’s population has grown from 5,301,000 in 1900 to over 34,030,589 in 2011, driven mainly by immigration (Central Intelligence Agency, 2011). By 2056 it is expected, one in four Canadians will be 65 years or older, compared to 13 per cent currently. This will put a huge strain on the country’s health care system (Macleans, 2008 p.2). The future of Canada’s health care system is at great risk due to its escalating and aging population. This is triggering a shortage of physicians, particularly anesthesiologists, in some provinces of Canada (Canadian Medicine Journal, 2007). Anesthesiologists are specialist physicians who provide critical care to patients in a number of health programs: operative anesthesia for patients in all surgical subspecialties, acute pain management, procedural anesthesia, obstetrical care, and high-risk medical management, chronic pain management, resuscitation, advanced airway management, and critical care (Intermountain Healthcare, 2011). The current shortage of anesthesiologists is highly impacting access to care in each of these areas. Due to the lack of foresight in government policies, the shortage of anesthesiologists in Canada is increasing and becoming more critical. The Canadian government has failed to train, hire, and retain enough anesthesiologists/assistants for the needs of Canada’s rising population. The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) estimates it would take 26,000 more physicians, presently, in order to bring Canada up to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) average (Macleans, 2008 p.2).
The first question I expect to be asked by every interviewer is "why anesthesiology now?" In 2012, after 6 years of post-graduate training, I was thrilled and elated to finally became a board-certified pediatric hematologist/oncologist. Three years later, I am ready to go back to residency. Pediatric hematology/oncology was one of my earliest rotations as a third year medical student and I fell in love with the pathology and, of course, the kids. After that rotation, I, perhaps naively, didn 't give much thought to other specialties and focused solely on pediatrics, going on to complete my pediatrics residency at the University of Michigan, followed by fellowship at the University of Colorado. Now, three years after my transition into post-training practice, I have come to realize the realities of pediatric specialized medicine are not what I expected when I chose this career.
...ing education courses and renew certification. When they are considered competent enough to deliver anesthesia, they must also be able to deal effectively with the daily changes and challenges that a hospital environment can create. They must also be able to “stomach” many types of sense triggers. Although they are one of the top paid nursing practices, they have to endure stress throughout their whole career, starting with the educational aspects.

Everyday, people go through surgery and require a specialist that will monitor their surgery as well as give them what they need to be able to persevere the pain, which is exactly what anesthesiologists do. In order for the patients to be able to get into surgery and deal with the agonizing aches after the abscission, anesthesiologists have to give the sufferer the proper treatment before and after the surgery. Overall, anesthesiologists must be highly educated in both medicine and communication, they need to be able to give the patient the right amount of medicine as well as speak with the family of patients and other doctors to inform them all with what will be done during the surgery, and they need to be able to properly assist the surgeons during operations.
I consider anesthesiology as a unique area in healthcare requiring specialized skills and knowledge. An anesthesiologist assistant career involves working as a trained non-physician anesthesia provider in cooperation with and under the supervision of an anesthesiologist. Activities include health history taking, carrying out care plans for anesthesia, preoperative physical examination, administering medication, supervising recovery and other responsibilities as assigned by the anesthesiologist. An admission into the anesthesiology assistant program would provide me with the advanced education and prerequisite clinical training that would enable me participate in these patient care roles. I am aware that the training programs for anesthesiology assistants are comparatively few as compared to many other healthcare career options. An admission into an anesthesiology assistant program would represent for me an invaluable opportunity to enter into a unique and challenging area in healthcare, and one in which I am very eager to participate
Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) are high trained nurses who use their developed training in the use of anesthesia to alleviate patient pain and discomfort due to medical procedures. Nurse anesthetists have been providing anesthesia for more than 125 years, dating back to the early Civil War. ("Nurse anesthetist," 2014). They undergo rigorous training post nursing licensure that allows them to hold a high position in the nursing field working beside surgeons, anesthesiologist, dentists, podiatrist, and many other skilled healthcare professionals ("Nurse anesthetist," 2014). Pain management is one of the main aspects in any procedure, if not the most important to the patient, therefore giving nurse anesthetists a wide spectrum of work settings in the medical field that they can practice in.
...the patient’s safety, gathering supplies needed and checking if equipment needed are working, setting up the sterile field, maintaining its sterility, and completing all the documents. Hamlin (2010) further states that RNs may be required to provide emotional support during the induction phase of anaesthesia.
With proper schooling and experience I am determined to become a world-wide known anesthesiologist. My goal in that field is to help people and make incredible discoveries in medicine. I do not intend to lead the common life, I want to make a difference in this world more than anything. Lately, I have done research on the effects of anesthetics on various humans and their experiences after the drugs. The information I found amazed me and because of this, I have created a goal. In my lifetime, I hope to develop an anesthetic that can be used for any and all humans without side effects.
Monitoring a patient’s vitals during anesthesia is extremely vital and cannot be stressed enough. Using the massive amount of technology and electrical instruments available within a surgical suite, machines can lie and should never be trusted. Your eyes and ears are you most valuable tools you have. Of course, there are the simple things of observing your patient’s heart rate and breathing rate with a stethoscope but there are many other things you can observation skills can tell you that machines can’t. For example, it is very important to open your patient’s eyes during surgery to investigate the position of the pupils. If the pupils cannot be seen, this can indicate a too deep and inappropriate level of anesthesia. Another example is checking
Surgeons have a lot on their plate when it comes to their work. Surgeons are doctors who are specialized in certain surgeries and operations. While being a surgeon there are many subspecialties that one surgeon could pursue (Field). Surgeons will diagnose and treat patients depending on their condition. They will perform a variety of surgeries on the every single part of the human body (“Surgeon”). It’s important for a surgeon to know everything about a patient’s medical history so they can perform their job to the best of their ability and also decide whether or not the patient needs surgery. They also ...
