Hopes and dreams are the thoughts of every young boys they range from the most
amazing dream girl to wanting be one of the few men who have stepped on the moon. Yet this child has cast aside all normal dreams so that he may reach his dream. The dream very few reach; the dream of playing college basketball. This boy, Andrew ortiz, has grown the persistence of many successful members in society. The persistence Andrew displays is something that defines him and his character. He does everything to to exced everyone's expectations.
To understand why baskeball has affected Andrew’s life so much we first must understand the history of the sport.Basketball was invented in 1891 by a European P.E. instructor for purpose of being less injury prone; the game rapidly grew into a multi-billion dollar enterprise. Jesus Ortiz , Andrew's father, commented “ I wanted him to start playing to keep him out of trouble and now I realize not only did it keep him out of trouble, I actually believe it actually made him a better man.”Andrew persistence was then rewarded as he got recruited into Ysleta independent school district and began playing for the Tierra del sol sun dancers as point guard at age eight. At the time he was amazing for his age and stopped pushing himself as before and it was fine until he transferred to the Desert view stallions. Here his persistence was disrupted as the school system began changing and he began receiving the teenage disease of becoming a sloth. It wasn’t until eighth grade when question about him not making the basketball team arises.
