Between 50 BCE and 200 CE, the Roman Empire was very strong and powerful. Although the Roman Empire lasted a very long time, it weakened over time. The empire went through many emperors over the years, but slowly fell apart. There were many issues in the empire that led to it falling apart. The main reasons for the fall of Rome were foreign invasions, political instability, and a weak military. Foreign invasions played a huge role in the Roman empire's fall. As stated in document B by Vegetitus, “because of negligence and laziness, parade ground drills were abandoned.” As the troops became lazier and lazier they also became weaker and weren’t able to wear the armor because of its weight. In document D Ammianus Marcellinus, a Roman historian, refers to the Huns as being “glued to their horse.” This shows that the Huns had an advantage when invading since they were very well trained on horseback. Political instability was a major problem in the empire that led to its fall. Rome went through many different emperors throughout the years. Document A shows a list of emperors that ruled during a 50-year period. During the 50-year time period shown on the chart, there were 20 different emperors. This shows the instability in the government, which makes it hard for the people of the Roman Empire to trust in their leadership. In Document E we are able to see Priscus, a Roman ambassador to the Huns, point of view on the differences between his old life among the Romans, and his current life among the Huns. As stated in Document E, “the climax of misery is to have to pay in order to obtain justice.” This shows that in Rome it was hard to obtain justice unless you were wealthy which caused the decline of the empire since life was better under the Huns. Political instability and foreign invasions aren’t the only reasons for the decline of the

“A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.” –Marcus Garvey. The U.S. is a combination of many cultures and influences over the centuries and because of this we are alike to many of them. We could name many of these influences: the Greeks, the Chinese Dynasties but the Romans were particularly like us. We might see them as barbaric is some ways but the reality is that the U.S. takes pages from many areas of the Romans, and comparisons could

Manipulation in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar William Shakespeare's tragic play portraying the life in ancient Rome is one that closely follows many elements that make a drama interesting. The murders and the conspiracies behind the killings add to the plot of jealousy and patriotism. Within Julius Caesar also lies a twisted tale of attempted, actual, and forced manipulation. The first sign of attempted manipulation in this play takes place in the first scene of the first act. The Romans
to invade. Claudius also faced many political troubles when he became Emperor, so another interpretation is that he was trying to prove his position. One way he could have done this is by emulating Julius Caesar, who was seen as a great leader of Rome. This point of view has been put forward by the archaeologists Martin Millet and Peter Salway. One reason that there are so many arguments is down to the fact that we do not have much substantial evidence that shows us Claudius’s true reasons for
The View from the Bottom Rail The Lewinsky Scandal… A perfect example as to why we cannot accept everything at face value before carefully examining it first. Everyone thought President Clinton was behaving himself in the White House, but, as it turns out, he was most definitely not. This can be the same for history. We must carefully consider different aspects of articles so that we do no make the mistake of believing everything we read. In order to fully understand an article, we must understand
Over the years, literature of ancient Greece and Rome has affected art, religion, philosophy, science and mathematics, medicine, drama, and poetry profoundly. It has served as a basic model for the development of later European literatures and, consequently, the writings of the historians, geographers, philosophers, scientists, and rhetoricians are read today as sources of historical information and enjoyment. Alfred Whitehead, the famous British philosopher-mathematician, once commented that: “[A]ll
Roman Empire, political system established by Rome that lasted for nearly five centuries. Historians usually date the beginning of the Roman Empire from 27 bc when the Roman Senate gave Gaius Octavius the name Augustus and he became the undisputed emperor after years of bitter civil war. At its peak the empire included lands throughout the Mediterranean world. Rome had first expanded into other parts of Italy and neighboring territories during the Roman Republic (509-27 bc), but made wider conquests
The Newport Coast Structure The Newport Coast structure that sits on the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Newport Coast Dr. is one of many examples of Mediterranean-inspired architecture in Southern California. The building is clearly influenced by Roman architecture and stands out among the standard Spanish-looking villas and mission-type buildings. The structure lies near one of California's wealthiest neighborhoods, Newport Beach and acts as sort of a grand entrance to Newport Coast Dr
Tragedy of Julius Caesar, William Shakespeare shows how friends often betray each other. Julius Caesar is about to be crowned king of Rome, when some well-known Romans decide that it is not a good idea for this to happen. They form a conspiracy and kill Caesar. Brutus, an honorable Roman and a very good friend of Caesar’s, betrays Caesar by killing him for the good of Rome. Antony, Caesar’s best friend and another honorable Roman, betrays Brutus by turning against the conspirators. Cassius, a respected
Legacy of Rome and Christianity Christianity came into existence almost 2000 years ago. Christianity, like Judaism, rose from obscurity to become the dominant religion of Western culture. Christianity also became the dominant faith of Rome at the end of fourth century A.D. (Matthews 157.) Both Christianity and Rome influenced Europe in a number of ways. Christianity soon became the greater part of the empire. Between 284 and 476, Roman civilization went through two stages. One stage

Ancient Greece: A Time Of Great Cities And Lives Ancient Greece was an interesting time and place with huge markets in which people could sell items of every kind. Strict laws with even stricter penalties if broken, a place where women were did not have as many rights as they do today, and along with the most outstanding army in their time. A quote that goes along with this time is; "I have killed one I have killed two -- the vampire who said he was youo." - Sylvia Platts. Likewise in the Ancient
