Analyzing The Film 'Adaption'

Adaption is a film about main character John who is attempting to re-write a script written by author, about orchids. He struggles with this book, not wanting to contaminate the writing or the perception of the author. He doesn’t want to turn the literature into something sexual, and materialistic, he wants to keep the story pure. Throughout this film there was a never ending them of beauty being found in the most unexpected places. Beauty in the orchids, in John Laroche, in Charle’s twin brothers writing, even in the tragedy of his brother’s death. This film says that with love, true love goes beyond the surface or what our eyes can see. Susan for example was in a marriage with her husband, most would presume she was happily married or content, but at the dinner table with friends, she was in a crowded room but felt very alone. Throughout this time his twin brother would frequently come into his room, telling him that he wanted to become a script writer and he was working on a “thriller”. Charlie ignored his brother and didn’t take him seriously. His twin brother had the tendency to always make plans and never put action to it, Charlie complained that he was unemployed and needed a job. His twin brother didn’t appear to be someone who can write a script or even be taken seriously. When it was finally finished, Charlie’s Agent read the script, and contrary to Charlie’s expectations he said that his brother’s script was the best thing he ever read, Charlie was in awe. The agent found beauty in his writing, and he realized that he was a natural talent. After this Charlie decided he would begin to involve his brother into his creative writing
