BOOM!, BOOM!, BOOM!, explosions, ash, carbon dioxide and, magma going everywhere burning buildings and people, starting to kill people every second. This can only mean one thing the volcano is erupting and a bad one, this volcano is called Mount Vesuvius this eruption covered Pompeii with layers of ash and hardened magma until Pompeii was rediscovered as the result of intentional excavations in 1748 by the Spanish military engineer Rocque Joaquin de Alcubierre. There is a fiction and nonfiction version of the story of pompeii one story is by Louis Untermeyer The Dog of Pompeii is fiction and one other story by Robert Silverberg called Pompeii which is nonfiction.
In this paragraph I am doing tone, and in the first part i am doing The Dog
of Pompeii. “Bimbo bit Tito and he jerked awake and Bimbo was pulling him and trying to tell him the way out, urging him there. Bimbo guiding him there to the Sea Gates he and Bimbo.” I think that this means that everybody is panicking, and scared in this part of the story because Bimbo is trying to get Tito as far away as possible in a fast amount of time. In this part of the paragraph I am doing Pompeii. “The terrified dog barked wildly as lapilli struck and drifting white ash settled around him.” I think this means that everybody is panicking, and scared because the dog is panicking, and to me it seems that the the dog is scared for its life. In this paragraph I am doing theme, and for the first part I am doing The Dog of Pompeii. ¨While Tito was sleeping Bimbo would disappear, when Tito awoke Bimbo would be sitting quietly at his side.” I think this means that Bimbo is the caretaker of Tito and found him food that he could eat because he always was with Tito and loved him very much and got him food everyday. In this part of the paragraph I am doing Pompeii. ¨They hoped that the nightmare would end that the tranquility of a few hours ago would return.¨ I think this means that families were left to fend for themselves and find their own way out of the mess that was going on, because when the volcano erupted everybody was running away for the volcano and their homes and screaming from the huge eruption. In this paragraph I am doing Symbolism, and for the first part I am doing The Dog of Pompeii. “As long as they remember seeing Tito -about twelve or thirteen years- they have seen Bimbo.” I think that this means that Bimbo and Tito were together all the time and they were a family, because Bimbo was Tito best friend and also acted as his parents because he found food for him and played with him, Bimbo did almost everything with Tito. In this part of the paragraph I am doing Pompeii. ¨Huddling inside the temples , or in the public baths, or in the cellars of their homes.¨ I think that this means that most of the family's stay huddled together in the safest place that they had, because people believed that the gods were doing this to them so they went to the temples. Some people just wanted protection so they went to public baths, or in the cellars of their homes.

My Dear Palestrina’ is a cleverly written short story by Bernard MacLaverty. It is about this young boy called Danny who discovers his musical talent and goes to this piano teacher called Miss Swartz. Their friendship develops and seem to be a formidable partnership until Danny is torn away from his beloved music lessons because of Miss Schwartz private life. Fitted into the story are some important themes that still continue to exist in today’s society. In this essay I will try to explain most of them to you.
Throughout Bernard's collection of sermons, he justifies the central concerns of the “Song of Songs” within his selected works. He develops a creed of mystical contemplation, meditation, and personal joining with God. Bernard using an allegorical approach, he wrote about the “Song of Songs” and his sermons creating the metaphor of the church, stressing the importance of love in knowing service to God. “Song of Songs” has many interpretations within the love poem, and Bernard conveys them on discussing what the “Song of Songs” is, dives into what the kisses are that indicate the progression on the soul, describes who the four kinds of spirits are, and identifies the bride and Bridegroom.
Descriptive language, and figurative language is applied in The Pigman by Paul Zindel, to generate the tone.
John Donne's, "The Flea," is a persuasive poem in which the speaker is attempting to establish a sexual union with his significant other. However, based on the woman's rejection, the speaker twists his argument, making that which he requests seem insignificant. John Donne brings out and shapes this meaning through his collaborative use of conceit, rhythm, and rhyme scheme. In the beginning, Donne uses the flea as a conceit, to represent a sexual union with his significant other. For instance, in the first stanza a flea bites the speaker and woman. He responds to this incident by saying, "And in this flea our bloods mingled be."

Tone – An attitude of a writer toward a subject or an audience generally conveyed through the choice of words or the viewpoint of a writer on a particular subject. “It is autumn. There are not many of the old hands left. I am the last of the seven fellows from our class (Remarque 293).” Remarque uses tone in such a way that makes the reader sympathize and feel sad for Paul. It is within these words that the author is able to illustrate the moments of grief and remorse that fall upon Paul as his friends are taken from him one by

The famous Greek philosopher Aristotle outlined the requirements for a good tragedy, and he based his ideals on the classic Greek play Oedipus Rex, written by Sophocles. As Aristotle stated, the perfect tragedy must be an imitation of one’s life, realistic and narrow in its aspects. Such is the case with the play Oedipus Rex, a Greek play revolving around the tragedies of the life of King Oedipus. Oedipus Rex, the protagonist of the first of the three Oedipus plays, has a life of luxury and promise. However, because of the life fate has dictated him and the obstacles he has faced, Oedipus has been proven to have three hamartias, or tragic flaws. His attributes of determination, impatience/disrespect, and hubris greatly contribute to his downfall.
Have you ever felt like you had to live up to an ideal that is just not in you to live up to? Have you been pressured to act a certain way because that’s what’s considered the norm? If you answered yes to these questions, fear not. Societal pressures and expectations have been around for centuries. People have been singing, writing, painting, and talking about these feelings of expectation for just as long. D.H. Lawrence’s “Snake,” and Langston Hughes’s “Theme in English B,” speak to the struggles of societies expectations. Though both poems are dissimilar in many ways, they share the common thread that the main characters are fighting what society deems to be the norm both internally and externally.
Tone helps set the attitude of a poem that a poet is trying to portray on a specific subject (Kriszner et al. 245). The tone of this poem is celebratory, proud, and confident. One is able to deduce this by paying close attention to the title. Paying attention to the title gives one a hint what this poem may bring and what kind of tone is
Tone is generally conveyed through the choice of words, or the viewpoint of a writer on a particular subject. For example you can find worry, sadness, and anxiety in Antonio’s and Felix conversation that you are about to read next.- ”Man. I don’t know how to come out with it.”Antonio helped.”It’s about our fight right?” “Yeah, right.” Felix eyes squinted at the rising orange sun. “I’ve been thinking about it too, panin. In fact, since we found out it was going to be me and you, I’ve been awake at night , pulling some punches at you, trying not to hurt you.” Same here.It ain’t natural not to think about the fight.I mean, we both are cheverote fighters. But we both want to win. There ain’t no draws in the eliminations.”
Oedipus did not have a fair start in life. His father, Laius, heard prophecy that Oedipus would one day kill his father and sleep with his mother. In order to prevent this, Laius gave Oedipus to a shepherd to be killed. Fortunately, through a string of events, Oedipus's life was saved, and he even went on to become the honored king of Thebes. Despite this feat, Oedipus still managed to make several decisions that ultimately fulfilled the original prophecy told to Laius, and inevitably sealed Oedipus?s fate.
The play, Oedipus Rex, expresses the two themes of fate and persistence throughout the plot. The play was written by Sophocles in the Greek era. Oedipus Rex is included in what is known as the Oedipus collection of plays. These plays were performed in Greek theaters around 420 BC and beyond. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oedipus_the_King). Throughout the story, fate and the choices that Oedipus makes allows him to change into a new person by the end of the story. The themes of fate and persistence play a large role in the outcome of the play.
Mount Vesuvius is a strato-volcano consisting of a volcanic cone (Gran Cono) that was built within a summit caldera (Mount Somma). The Somma-Vesuvius complex has formed over the last 25,000 years by means of a sequence of eruptions of variable explosiveness, ranging from the quiet lava outpourings that characterized much of the latest activity (for example from 1881 to 1899 and from 1926 to 1930) to the explosive Plinian eruptions, including the one that destroyed Pompeii and killed thousands of people in 79 A.D. At least seven Plinian eruptions have been identified in
