The editorial piece that I have decided to write on is “The real American Sniper was a hate-filled killer. Why are simplistic patriots treating him as a hero?” by Lindy West of theguardian.com. In this piece, West talks about her beliefs on the character of deceased Navy SEAL, Chris Kyle. She focuses on describing Kyles darker side rather than what was displayed on Clint Eastwood’s Hollywood drama, American Sniper. In the movie, as well as in the media, Kyle is described as a loyal patriot. He was performing his duty with honor and courage, saving countless American lives along the way. West paints a much different story, stating “Right wing conservatives are treating it with the same unconsidered, rah-rah reverence that they would the national anthem or the flag itself.”According to West, Kyle is not the American hero that many have come to believe and is getting more credit than he deserves. …show more content…
After reading your piece on Chris Kyle, I have come to the conclusion that you have one correct statement written. You stated that People miscomprehend Clint Eastwood’s true intent on the movie, American Sniper. They have made their own misguided concept of the movie. This happens with stories told in all mediums, because of everyone having their own unique way of viewing the world. So in that regard, you are absolutely correct. As for Chris Kyle being a deranged serial killer that took advantage of his environment to commit murder, you are absolutely wrong. I understand some of the comments people make to those that do not support Kyle are cruel. This does not change Chris Kyle’s character, however, for you to imply that, in my opinion, is completely

Grisham tells us that two youngsters killed 2 unrelated people after they watched the film, Natural Born Killers, and learned the violent behavior showed in the film and commit crimes afterwards. And he comes to conclusion that this kind of violent movies that will cause bad effects among young people should be not allowed to made. The detail he provides is that nothing in the two perpetrator’s past indicated violent propensities. Stone’s essay is the response to Grisham’s indict. His central idea is that the movies should not be blamed as reasons people commit crime. The details he provides are that: There are many related factor involved if people are guilty, such as their upbringing, parents, schools, and peers, but not films; Teenagers spend more time on watching TV, which also include violent depictions and have effects on teenagers, so TV should have more responsibility on the crime than Natural Born Killers does.
“The Sniper” and “The Most Dangerous” Game are both different stories, written by different authors. Liam O’Flaherty is the author of “The Sniper”. He was born on one of Ireland’s Aran Islands, in a large family. Since the Aran Islands have a tradition of oral storytelling, Liam O’Flaherty’s house was full of different kinds of stories. He also wrote about Irish peasant life and captured the struggles of the Irish Civil War. His best known novel is “The Informal”, and it talks about a betrayal set during the Irish Troubles.
It sees that a criminal changes the focus of his own criminal acts and those who are in disapproval of these acts. As Silks' and Matza note, “His condemners, he may claim, are hypocrites, deviants in disguise, or impelled by personal spite”. For McVeigh increased arm controls, events such as Waco, and the double standards of US foreign policy rendered the government as hypocrites. In An Essay on Hypocrisy, McVeigh vents such views on hypocrisy and equivalent acts of the
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is not something to think lightly of, and affects several people in society, not just soldiers. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, is best known as a mental health condition that many soldiers experience after the war, but it’s a problem that stretches far beyond the military. PTSD affects 5%-10% of all men and 7%-14% of all women in this country(Charles, PTSD). In Chris Kyle’s autobiography American Sniper he touches on many subjects involving PTSD, and talks about the challenge of being a good father, husband, and soldier while stationed overseas. In American Sniper Chris Kyle is a very talented long ranged sniper for the United States Navy Seals, during his tour in Iraq, Chris tallies up several kills.
"There are wounds that never show on the body that are deeper and more hurtful thananything that bleeds. Don 't wait until you break. - Laurell Hamilton" This is oftentimes the sentiment felt by soldiers who have served in active duty and have been witnesses to tragedies that leave them emotionally scarred. The Clint Eastwood directed film, American Sniper is amovie that features the real life tragedy of American soldier, Chris Kyle, who served in theUnited States military as a Navy Seal, which is an elite group (Kenny, 2014 and Treitschke,2015). His story is unique in that he himself suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder(PTSD), but as he worked to recover, he valiantly served again by helping fellow soldiers withPTSD ("Chris Kyle," 2013), and was senselessly gunned
In the CNN arical Titled Sacramento “Police Shot Man Holding Cellphone in his Grandmother's Yard”, to target readers from broad political ideologies and inform them about the current police shooting of Stephon Clark. The rhetoric pathos was effectively utilized using various media and even the title to evoke certain emotions from the readers. Logos along with ethos was also used to support information and give them added credibility like body camera audio and direct quotes from the officers on scene. However the authors’ view on the issue was not clearly stated rather highlights the different perspectives.
First, American Sniper is based on a true story. The movie took place the year of 9/11 and the attack of terrorists on the world trade center. Chris Kyle was one of the best snipers in history. He recorded 255 kills in four tours in the Iraq War. He had a girlfriend in the beginning of the movie but he found her in bed with a stranger. He then found a new girlfriend while he was in training with the Seals. He started a family with her and had two kids. He got married and had one son and one daughter. He was not around for much of the kid’s life because he was at war for so long. His job was to kill one of the best snipers the terrorist
The Article in the Savannah morning news newspaper titled “What the ‘American Sniper’ trial teaches us” is a report by Jane Nangle. Jane Nangle, the author, is a Caucasian writer for the paper and all of her articles have a similar tone, a passionate and opinionated tone. The article has a main focus on posttraumatic stress disorder and how Kyle and Chad could still be alive if Eddie Ray was treated for the disorder.
In today’s society media plays a major role in the perception we have of how certain issues in our society are improving, worsening, or staying the same. One hot bed issue over the years has been that of random shooting and gun control. It seems a few times a year there is a very high profile random shooting spree in schools or other public locations that draws the entire county’s attention for a week or two. During this media fallout many different strong viewpoints come out as to why gun control is not doing enough to protect ourselves from these atrocious crimes or that it is not the gun control that is the issue, but better yet the people committing these crimes that are the problem. Many reporters and news outlets quite often take a stand on gun control during this time and create a bias against guns and the right people should have to possess them. The following will compare and contrast opposing media outlets and their biased reporting on gun violence and how the general public perceives this based on what information is presented the news. The sources will be analyzed on the placement of articles, headlines, visuals, what information is included and omitted, and organizations attached to the news. NBC and Fox news will be the sources of the gun control issues. Recently a random shooting in an Indiana grocery store took place that served as a news item on both NBC and Fox internet websites.
In this article, the author, SE Cupp, addresses the issues of gun control and of the tragedy of the shooting in Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. As of late, people have noted that these mass shootings in the United States have all become too common and are now vouching that gun control be tightened. But also, the author has addressed the issues of the Democrats constantly blaming the Republicans for all the wrong that has been occurring in US politics. They have recognized that also, news reporters have begun to also vouch for the Democrats and have become biased. The author accuses the Democrats of villainizing the Republicans and now accuses the Democrats that even though they have been loud in voicing opinions,
Last month a horrific incident occurred taking the lives of, news reporter Alison Parker, and camera man Adam Ward. Journalist for the New York Times, Nick Kristof, wrote an article titled “Lessons from the Virginia Shooting” in which he states his opinion on gun control. Kristof, is a human and woman’s rights activist, but also a father and husband which would explain his concern on this topic. He believes we need better firearm restrictions in order to reduce death due to gun violence. This has been a controversial issue for a while, but I believe it had more attention brought to it when the live shooting occurred in Virginia on August 26th. I personally think Kristof wrote this article because he has children and a wife, so it’s normal for
Christopher Scott Kyle was born April 8, 1974 in Odessa, Texas, to Deby Lynn Mercer and Wayne Kenneth Kyle. He was a United States Navy SEAL veteran sniper. Before he joined the military he was a cowboy and professional bull rider. He would go out to rodeo’s and compete with his brother Jeff Kyle. After he gave up bull riding he joined the military and served 4 tours in Iraq. Most Iraqi Insurgents that hid from his deadly fire power referred to him as Al-Shaitan Ramad or The Devil Of Ramadi.
