“Jar of Hearts”
Every song ever written was written for one reason or another. Christina Perri’s “Jar of Hearts” is specifically written to a specific ex-boyfriend. Perri goes back and forth on things this guy did or did not do. Emotions played a huge part in the writing of this song. Throughout the entire song, emotions and strong word choices give a powerful meaning. Although Perri never specifically states what happened in the relationship, she gives her audience enough pieces to put together that the past relationship ended well.
Christina Perri, from the very beginning, shows emotion in her voice. The listener can sense this personal emotion in not only her voice, but after the first two lines, she makes it clear that the song is about

She starts the next line after the chorus by saying, “I hear you’re asking all around.” At this point the listener knows that Perri understands that this guy wants her back. She now rubs it in that she will not be reigniting the flame that was once there. Her voice raises as she finishes the stanza with, “But I have grown too strong, to ever fall back in your arms.” Not only has she vowed to never date him again, but she says this event has made her stronger. She knows she does not need this man in her life. Although this is not the chorus, I feel as if this is the climax of the song. Everything needed to show the audience the situation, has been addressed and she is singing the loudest at this point. This is another spot in the song where the listener can tell Perri has emotionally been deeply invested in this …show more content…
The choruses are loaded with ups and downs of emotion and varies in the use of tone. In the second chorus, the listener can hear a shakiness in her voice. This helps her audience know that she is not just singing about someone else's situation and that this is something Christina Perri experience for herself. The last three lines say, “Who do you think you are?” This was the perfect ending to a song that not only exposed the guy to other women, but helped Perri herself end the conversation by putting the well deserved fault back into the hands of the one she once had feelings
The first stanza describes the depth of despair that the speaker is feeling, without further explanation on its causes. The short length of the lines add a sense of incompleteness and hesitance the speaker feels towards his/ her emotions. This is successful in sparking the interest of the readers, as it makes the readers wonder about the events that lead to these emotions. The second and third stanza describe the agony the speaker is in, and the long lines work to add a sense of longing and the outpouring emotion the speaker is struggling with. The last stanza, again structured with short lines, finally reveals the speaker 's innermost desire to "make love" to the person the speaker is in love
In this song one can tell that the singer is very sad and depressed about many things that have happened in his life and the love ones that have passed away. When he sings this lyric “My sweetest friend…. I will let you down” you can tell that it is about how his loved ones have passed on and he let
For example, in "The Letter," Kehlani refuses to name the subject until the very last possible moment in the song. "Your words were supposed to get me through my heart ache," Kehlani sings. "Maybe I didn't deserve you. Maybe I just couldn't cure you." It’s a cutting and very heartbreaking turn of phrase that readers can feel while listening to her music even just through the lyrics. This could definitely describe betrayal or disappointment that she had gone through. Until she suddenly narrows it down into a more details, halfway through the song as she revealed who it was for: "every girl needs a mother." “Bright,” the next track after, is quite different as it encourages motivation to listeners and to show that each and every individual is unique and has their own beauty that no one can take. Furthermore, "Wanted" describes a newly-found connection and shows inspiration and determination, which possibly talks about fresh love. The words and tunes used sets a slights uplift atmosphere which definitely fits the message of the lyrics, “I was chosen… found my lows and made them high, so much storm to clear my skies I don't think I can deny.” As a result, Kehlani shows that there's still courage in holding back, as she made the choice of keeping things
In this stanza there is a question asked to the question reveals that the girl is puzzled about the lord is after her. This suggests that she is aware that he has different motives rather than love and romance. This also shows that she knows the compliment is false and just a way of seducing her into bed.
"Wanting you back” Don’t we all love a tragic love story? In the song “When I Was Your Man” by Bruno Mars, you can feel his anguish by listening to the song its self and also by watching his music video. Bruno strays from his original upbeat songs and goes to the piano to play his mournful melody. This song of Bruno’s gives examples of how he wishes he would have treated a girl in the past better, so he could have her in the future. He also wishes her the best and tells her he hopes the next man can do all the things he should have done when he had the chance.
On the third stanza, she pretty much saying that it is not her fault that she had a abortion and she has no choice but to do it. “Since anyhow you are dead, Or rather, or instead, You were never made” (Gwendolyn Brooks) she making excuses of what she had done.
In line five and six, the male feels so down and intimidated and could not do anything. In the third stanza, in line one to four we see that the male tries to change the present state but it does not seem to bear fruit. In line six and seven the female is still dominating the male.
Russ's song starts off with the chorus with him explaining to his ex that it is ok to love again. "she's falling in love," yet "losing control" because she, Russ's ex, is afraid to love again and possibly het hurt9line 1).She is "fighting the truth" and hiding her love for her boyfriend because she is scared that he too
CSNY is profoundly successful in conveying their message in the song by using the right lyrics and vocals accompanied by the tune of the guitars. “Helplessly Hoping” can be interpreted in so many ways that in either way it, nonetheless, will insinuate on the same thing, which is love. As they put it love is not lying, and it will always be around. Listening to the song can put one in an emotional roller-coaster that its theme can be known beforehand. This perplexed relationship describes the essence of love, and its implications. It reflects on how love can be capricious, which gives a sense of mystery. The harmony of the group in the song makes it one of my favorites, and puts it in my top list of love songs in all times.
“The world is beating you down, I’m around through every mood / You’re my downfall, you’re my muse / My worst distraction, my rhythm and blues / I can’t stop singing, it’s ringing, in my head for you.” She brings him down but also inspires him at the same time. He can’t stop thinking about her.
He achieves this by directly characterizing the girl as both apathetic and immoral. To begin with, he brings her apathy to light by the constant reiteration of the phrase “I gave you all I had and you tossed it in the trash” (Mars). The diction he uses in this line is critical—his statement that the girl nonchalantly “tossed” all his love in the trash fully demonstrates her disinterest and brings out her evil nature (Mars). This verse, alongside Mars’ declaration that the girl “never…loved [him]” even if he was willing to “die for [her]” fully attests to her cold-heartedness (Mars). Furthermore, Mars proceeds to expose her lack of moral consciousness, stating that if his “body was on fire, [she] would watch [him] burn down in flames” (Mars). The usage of vivid imagery in this case exposes the girl’s clear lack of basic human values. It illustrates that she would callously stand by and watch as Mars suffers serious physical duress and perhaps even death. All in all, the specific diction and powerful imagery employed by Mars throughout the song successfully appeals to audience’s pity, and is an effective use of pathos to win over their
Also with this line she talks about the people that hate him separate from herself, only addressing the group as they, which shows that she cannot bring herself to hate him. Though she uses “you” a lot through the poem and this stanza the one place she needs to use it, she does not. I think if she was actually where over her father she would say I’m through with you, yet because she just says “I’m through,” we are left to wonder through with what? It seems like she's more done with herself than with her
...lling him that she herself still struggles to climb her stairs but she never gives up in lines 18-19, "For I'se still goin', honey,/I'se still climbin'." Through these lines, she also reveals that no matter how tough life has been for her that it hasn't dimmed her spirits because she keeps on climbing. She shows life as an ascent up a staircase: it's a hard climb, but one that must be attempted and achieved.
This asserts the reader to understand. Lines 32-33 “Nothing but sighs escape from her
Her tone in this song is at first mellow, but when she comes to the stanza of this song, she deliberately raises her voice to emphasize her genuine feelings. The tone describes her want and need for her thoughts to be truly heard. She wants the listener to capture her essence and the view of herself. In this specific stanza, she explains that s...
