Analysis of Hollyoaks Title Sequence
At the beginning of the programme, before the title sequence rolls in,
there is already the first difference from many soap operas on
commercial television. Whereas the likes of Coronation Street and
Emmerdale and others on commercial based television, Hollyoaks does
not have a sponsor, instead it has a now and next screen, and has a
voice over of a slight summary of one of the storylines that happens.
I believe that this could be done to encourage people to stay tuned in
and watch the programme. I believe that by having this slight summary
could swing either way. Yes it could encourage watching viewers to see
how the storyline unravels, but it could also turn potential viewers
away. If they know some of the episode and that doesn't appeal to
them, then instead of watching like they were going to, they may tune
into another channel.
If they do stayed tune in and carry on watching the episode, then they
will be approached by another first for, but this time, covering all
British soaps not just a few. I'm talking about the fact that they
don't just have scenery in the title sequence. Each of the other main
soaps, Eastenders, Coronation Street and when it was on Brookside,
they all use scenery, to introduce the surroundings instead of the
characters. Yes, it does have scenery but this is pushed to the side
and in the centre is the difference to all other British soaps. They
have a real cast of the characters. This is different from that of the
American and Australian soaps, where they have a real casts its
normally a snap shot and the name, or a group of them and their
respective names, like in the case of Neighbours. No, instead they
have a centre real of micro-clips. In a circular motion, there are two
clips at a time, scrolling from the bottom of the screen to the top
and out of the picture. I really like this idea; it introduces you to
the characters, without letting you know their details.
The story A Television Drama, by Jane Rule is an exciting story about an unusual event, which the main character, Carolee Mitchell, experiences the end of. The story is about her quiet street becoming unusually busy with police officers, and how the man who is being chased by these officers ends up being outside her front door. Through the point of view of the story, the characterization and character change of Carolee Mitchell, and the setting of the story, A Television Drama is an exciting read. The story conveys how important it is to be aware of ones surroundings, and what is happening around oneself through these elements.
This essay will be looking at and examining the theme of characters having or going through a Journey, and how they are conveyed by author, Gwen Harwood, in her poems, ‘Suburban Sonnet: Boxing Day’ and ‘In the Park’. With the journeys in these two poems seemingly being written as reflections, where the characters are going through and struggling with the journeys they’re undertaking, I’ll be looking at what the journeys in these poems are representing and what they are showing readers about the characters who have had them.

When it comes to advertisement, every company’s goal is to come up with the best way to get their product out there and make their product look better than their competitors. Now, there are different ways in which companies can advertise their product. Microsoft, a well-known and valuable company, produces items such as personal electronics (i.e., cell phones), computer software 's (i.e., Windows), and additional items like Xbox, Bing, and Skype, but Microsoft is really known for Microsoft Windows (Microsoft US | Devices and Services).
Many stories people read are written for the express purpose of entertainment and sometimes even to persuade, but few are written to teach a moral. The story “A Fable with Slips of White Paper Spilling From The Pockets” written by Kevin Brockmeier does just that. Although relatively short, the story is filled with words of wisdom and life lessons that are meant to instill a sense of selflessness. The story is about a man who finds God’s overcoat from which he finds prayers from the people he encounters. Kevin Brockmeier makes exceptional use of magic realism and symbolism to teach a moral lesson.
In the short story called A Sound of Thunder there is this guy, and his name is Mr. Eckles. And he pays a 10 thousand dollar fee to go back in time to kill a Tyrannosaurus Rex. He is scared because he does not know if he will come back alive. And there are four other men with Eckles, and their names are Travis, the Safari Leader; his assistant, Lesperance; and two other hunters, Billings and Kramer. Throughout all of the time travel going on there happens to be a lot of foreshadowing in the story.
The title, Getting away with murder, is significant because it gives the reader a foreshadow as to what happens in the end. African American, Emmett Till's, murderer's are set free based solely on their skin color. The title gives us an insight on how unfair things were in the deep south in 1955. Many blacks lost their lives because they "stepped out of line" The title not only works for this book, and this story, but for all African Americans that were killed during this dangerous and unfair time. Before the Civil Rights Movement, when a was white on trial against a black, the white was always acquitted. At the first glance, the title doesn't have a huge meaning, it's just another book title, but, after reading this book, the title has so much more impact. It gives the reader something to think about. Once the book has been read, and the title is looked at again, all different emotions of anger and confusion bombard the reader. Rather than an first, they thought it was just someone obviously getting away with a crime. Getting Away
In the fictional short story “The Landlady” by Roald Dahl, the author uses foreshadowing to create suspense. For instance, on page 63 it states, “Suddenly, in a downstairs window that was brilliantly illuminated by a street lamp not six yards away, Billy caught sign of a printed notice propped up against the glass in one of the upper panes. It said “Bed and Breakfast.” This proves that Billy found a place to stay and if he should go and stay in that house. It also proves that we don’t know who is in the house or if there is anybody there. Another Example of foreshadowing from the text is on page 65-66, it states, “He found the guest book lying open on the piano, so he took out his pen and wrote down his name and address. There were only two
On Thursday, April 6, I attended the first show of the Neuqua Valley Monologue Show. The three shows I took notice on the most were Michael Vivo’s “Buddhism, Brainwaves… and Bill Murray”, Evan Morales’s “Junior year: The Video Game”, and Eleanor Giracalone’s “Lockdown.”
The plan will create product awareness through internet advertising via websites popular with college students (i.e. MySpace) and billboards on larger campuses. During finals week at the largest campuses in the United States, we will have buy one-get one free promotions. College students spend more time online than watching television.
“A Doll’s House” written by Hernik Ibsen is a dramatic screen write full of foreshadowing and conflict. Nora, the wife of Torvald Helmer, has committed a taboo act of her time. She kept her secret to herself for many years until revealing it to a long lost friend Mrs. Linde. During this era, everything a woman did was a reflection upon her husband, good or bad. Nora, in the panic to save her husband from bad health, obtained a loan from Mr. Nils Krogstad by means of forgery. Nils worked for the bank and was known for his scandalous loan making schemes. Nils worked for the bank in which Nora’s husband had just taken the lead position in. Nora knew her secret would come to light, but tried all she could to continue to keep it her secret. Nils knew that his title with the
Susan Glaspell’s Trifles (1916), is a play that accounts for imprisonment and loneliness of women in a patriarchal society. The plot has several instances where women issues are perceived to be mere trifles by their male counterparts. The title is of significant importance in supporting the main theme of the story and developing the plot that leads to the evidence of the mysterious murder. Trifles can be defined as things of less importance; in this story dramatic, verbal and situational irony is used to show how the insignificant trifles lead to a great deal of truth in a crime scene investigation. The title of the story “Trifles” is used ironically to shape the unexpected evidence discovered by women in
