Although technology is rapidly growing in today's world many parents refuse to let their children use social media because of the high risk of being cyberbullied. I believe that minors should be allowed to use social media because it gives them a chance to express who they are and helps them make new friends with the same interests. Minors should be allowed to use social media because it gives them a chance to express who they are. A survey taken back in 2015 showed that 58% of teens felt more comfortable expressing who they are online. With teens being comfortable in who they are they feel more relaxed in what they post because they don't care if their posts are unique from anyone else. People who are comfortable with themselves don't fee insecure. Most …show more content…
teens’ who express who they are online don't feel insecure about themselves. When a person is not insecure about themselves they feel happier about what they do because they don't have to worry about what other people think of them. Teens should be allowed to use social media because it gives them a chance to make new friends with the same interests.
For example teens that suffer from anxiety can use social media to talk to new people who suffer from anxiety too. Teens with anxiety don't have to feel anxious when talking to someone face to face instead they can talk to other kids their age online. Social media allows teens to meet someone new or get closer to someone they already know. Statistics showed that about 35% of people met someone online who is now one of their close friends. The majority of people want to know someone who has the same interests as them so by meeting someone online they can easily find out what they like to do. Although social media is convenient in different ways many parents are against letting their child use one because of the high risk of being cyberbullied. However, cyberbullying can be prevented by monitoring the people who follow a child on their social media page. For example a child should always have their account private. By having a private account teens are allowed to deny, block or report anyone that follows or wants to follow them, which will give them an even lesser chance of being
cyberbullied. Social media has become a huge help for teens all around the world by letting them express who they are so that they could meet new people who share the same interests with them. It lets them figure out who they are and who they want to be, and if they’re smart about what they post then they should be allowed to use social media.
Teen are being slain by cyberbullies everyday. Not all social media is good for teens. Even no social media is better. Almost every teenager has a cellphone or some sort of device that lets them check their social media. Many websites like Facebook, Instagram, and snapchat are bad and can cause teenagers to do bad things to themselves or other people. Banning social media will make teens have better grades, be more safer, and have more self confidence with less depression.
Social media is a network that connects millions of people around the world. Minors are one of the biggest users in social media, but should they be granted such easy access to these networks? Minors should have access to social media because it allows them to connect and learn from people who they normally would not be able to communicate with on a daily basis.
Cyber bullying and online crime must be put at a stop. Parents and teachers should play a great role in regulating what their kids are doing on social media. Parents give their children smart phones, tablets, and computers but they fail to convey the proper way of using those tools. They should teach them the rules of being on social media by telling them from right to wrong. Parents don’t give their children a car to use without telling them the proper rules of how to drive the car. If they don’t teach them how to drive the car then that child wouldn’t know what to do about his or her car and may lead to an accident. This is the same way of how parents should also teach their kids of how to regulate on social media. There are many privacy settings on these social network sites which some kids are not aware off or simply do not care about. We should put an aware of these settings to them and teach them from right to wrong. Parents and teachers should also encourage their kids to come talk to them if they are facing any type of
As a result of all of this information I have provided to you, there are more cons then there are pros when it comes to social media for kids under the age of 13. It is safe to wait until the child is the appropriate age to allow them on social media. Children under the age 13 should be more into school or natural play than social media. This can affect them a lot so please take my advice and wait until they are older so all of the cons can be avoided. When they are older they will be smarter, and able to understand what and what not to do.
I believe that minors should be allowed to have access to social media because it allows for them to express who they truly are. It also helps minors communicate with others from their hometown or from around the world.
Recent advancements in technology have created a new form of communication. We call this new type of communication social media. Some of the big names in social media are Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram. Most people today use some form of social media on a daily basis. Social media is most popular amongst adolescents. According to a poll conducted by Infographic, nine out of ten teenagers have used social media. Whenever a new technological advancement occurs there is concern over how it will affect society. In the case of social media, the concern is greatest for adolescents. So, how does social media effect adolescents? Social media can have both negative and positive effects. Some of the effects of using social media can be depression, addiction, cyberbullying and exposure to inappropriate content.
In today’s society, much advancement has been made throughout the universe. However, one that seems to stand out in particular is the use of social media. Social media has both positive and negative effects on society. This advancement has led to a difference in communication to everyone by reconnecting with others, or even informing the public nationwide through televisions such as the news or talk shows. However, is social media safe to use? Social media has a great impact on everyone in society. While allowing your children or teenagers to engage in social media a few things to consider are the risks of youth using social media, what age is too young, and also how social media is useful in some cases. Children participate in cyber bullying now and even find themselves involved in bad habits, such as sexting (Schurgin O’Keefe). According to a recent poll conducted, over 22 percent of teenagers log onto their social media site more than ten times a day (Schurgin O’Keefe). Not everything is negative towards social media, but there are precautions that need to be taken when there is the youth involved.

There has been controversy as to whether parents should limit the use of social media by teenagers. Teenagers feel that there is no need to limit the use of their social media networking, but on the other hand parents should feel the need to limit their use and also keep track of their teen’s social networking. Social media has allowed to be connected with their peers, teens who post positive status are more likely to be involved in extracurricular activities, and to many teens putting up “selfies” is a self confidence boost; however, too much social media can affect students GPA in school, cyber bulling can affect social health. Social media networks can give out personal information.
Teenagers have become dependent on social media and networking sites. In fact 25% of teenagers log on to a social media site ten or more times a day. (Lepi, 2013) However, Larry D. Rosen found interesting information in a study about teenager psyche, saying, “Daily overuse of media and technology has a negative effect on the health of all […] teenagers by making them more prone to anxiety, depression, and other psychological disorders, as well as by making them more susceptible to future health problems.” (2011) What exactly is a social media or network site? A dictionary definition would say social media are forms of electronic communication (as Web sites for social networking and microblogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content. (Merriam Webster, 2013) The most common examples include: Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Instagram, Tumblr, and Pinterest. (Bennet, 2013) Teenagers use social media and networks to find out information, talk to people who live far away, or vent and tell everyone every detail of their life. This dependency on social media has a drastic effect on a teenager’s relationships and can have long term effects on their social capabilities. Studies are showing how many teens find it easier to communicate online than face to face; the teens think being behind the screen makes it easier to connect with one and another. This, in turn, makes deception a more common occurrence on the web. The three biggest areas effected from social media and networks on teen relationships would be between significant others, distant and close family, and friends. There are both negative and positive effects in all three areas but, in most situati...
Social media is described as content created and shared by individuals on the web using freely available websites that allow users to create and post their own images, video and text information and then share that with either the entire internet or just a select group of friends (Affilorama, 2012). They are more like a website allowing you to express your daily activities, beliefs, locations, likes, dislikes, photos, music, etc. They are used by creating a profile, and logging in through either the website, or apps now used on smartphones, or any portable device with Wi-Fi connection. Although most social media networks are directed towards adults and young adults, young children are getting into these websites as well. There are usually age limits but there isn’t a certainty that all the users provided their actual age, allowing whoever wants to be a member of these sites to bypass an age limit “security” procedure. Facebook and MySpace require users to be at least 13, but they have no practical way to verify ages, and many young users prete...
When it comes to having an account online it can get quite dangerous. Not only is it dangerous but having the gadget lying around the house or even having their own at a young age can make it easier for them to have easy access to those social media accounts. Parents need to take precaution with their children and the internet. Meeting someone online is so much more different from meeting them in person. It is hard to tell if people and kids are their real age that they put on their information because you can actually lie about how old you really are. There has been many cases where involving younger girls talking to older men, a 15-year-old can be talking to a
Social media bullying is becoming a growing problem, not only in the United States, but all around the world. Children can easily have access to the internet and social media sites and therefore say whatever they want to others in order to boost their self-esteem. In order to prevent social media bullying, children and parents must be aware of all internet dangers and also what children are capable of. Parents should monitor what their kids are saying and doing online and take action if they are not behaving in an appropriate way.
I believe that the key to safe and secure social media begins with proper use. Illegal and highly discouraged activities should not be tolerated and consequences should be mandatory. In terms of social media use in teens and young adults, it is important for parents to teach their children what acceptable use of computers and social media is so that they can understand the potential danger and all minors should be monitored while using the Internet to ensure safe usage is being followed. Regardless of age, all users of social media should think twice before clicking the post button about what unintended consequences that post could have.
There are about one and a half billion users of social media worldwide. It can be used to meet new people, find old friends, chat the day away, join interest groups, or even to share pictures. Social networks were mostly created so people could meet and find new friends. What most users of social media don't know, are the dangers of using social media. One example is when you meet a person online, because they are not always who they say they are. If someone is not who you may think they are, who could they be? They can be a stalker or a person that wants to steal your identity; which could be done easily thanks to new developments of new technology. Also thanks to new technology it is now easier for people using your information to track you. Posting personal information can risk your family and friends lives. Social media can be used as a weapon against you. It can even lead to a kidnapping, or even someone's death. Many people use social media to help to waste time, but could also become an unhealthy addiction. Also social media can damage your future. When you are a teen you tend to post pretty much anything you want. This is dangerous because you can post too much personal information. What most teens don't realize is that what they do on social media now can affect them for the rest of their life. It can even come back to haunt you in the future. Social media is dangerous because it makes it easier to be stalked, identity theft to happen, kidnappings and murders, and also can ruin your future.
