Analysis: Why Did The Mayan Civilization Collapse

The US have always been having many advancements. They are one of the most powerful countries in the world with advancements like military, technology, arts, and etc. Although they have many of those advancements there is always a negative side happening in the US that could potentially make them fall. Many people will think that there could be no way the US will fall, but there is always an end to something. For example, empires from thousands of years ago who had many advancements had a fall. The US is going to soon turn like into one of these fallen empires because they are having the same issues that made those empires fall. The US will fall soon because of their environmental problems, immune system, and military spending.

One reason

the US will fall is because of their environmental problems. These problems could be deforestation, pollution, global warming, and etc. Many of these things are happening in the US, but one of the biggest one that led a fall to an empire was deforestation. The empire that fell because of deforestation was the Mayan empire.

The Mayan empire was doing well until they started burning down trees. The reason why they fell was not because of other empires, but technically on themselves. In the article “Why Did the Mayan Civilization Collapse? A New Study Points to Deforestation and Climate Change” by Joseph Stromberg has many points on how they fell because of this. In the article it states that, “As a result, the rapid deforestation exacerbated an already severe drought—in the simulation, deforestation reduced precipitation by five to 15 percent and was responsible for 60 percent of the total drying that occurred over the course of a century as the Mayan civilization collapsed” (Stromberg). As the Mayan’s kept burning down the trees the Mayan empire started to get lower and lower. When the precipitation went down, that wasn’t what made the Mayan empire fall

altogether. When precipitation falls it makes the soil for farming reduce. If the soil reduces, the Mayan can’t farm as much and they will fall because they were basically starving themselves. The US is having a big problem with deforestation considering they sell billions of dollars doing this. If they continue with this they could end up like the Mayans. In the article “Deforestation in the US” by Vicki Pritchett tells the effects on if the US continues to cut down trees. The article says, “United States deforestation has caused the destruction of virgin forests by 90 percent since 1600. At the rate of deforestation currently in the United States, only one-fourth of the forests standing today will be standing in 70 years” (Pritchett). The US is cutting down so many trees at such a fast pace that forests that people see today will no longer exist years later. They are doing it at a much greater risk than the Mayan’s causing a lot more effects in the US than the Mayans did. When the Mayan’s burned down the trees they really only effected the agriculture of theirs. When the US started cutting down trees, they are doing it so much worse and will not only effect the soil, but so much more in the environment.

The US have always been going strong on all of the advancements they have made over the few years, yet what the people don’t know is that it could be harming us badly.

With the advancements that the US are making could make them fall instead of rise. They will fall because of environmental problems, their immune system, and military spending. When people think that the US is doing so well with these advancements, they are actually making things worse for them. When they cut down trees they make so much money, yet harming the soil. If they are too clean they will not be adaptable with diseases. If they spend too much on military there could be not enough money for things that need it. All the things that could be helping us is actually affecting us a lot and the people will never

know.
