The first narrative I’ve chosen Is “The Look” by Larry Lehna. One part in the book where the author uses descriptive language (From “The Look”) “The burning pain of bullet wounds (they really do burn). The agony of stitches going into a fresh knife wound. The nearly immobilizing ache of broken ribs.” (196) The image of the “the burning pain of a bullet wound” and “the agony of stitches going into a fresh knife wound.” appeals to the sense of touch and feeling. I selected this particular passage because the author was able to describe the physical pain of a bullet wound and also the pain of the healing process. This passage gives me the reader a more personal experience to the story and connects you to the character, I had a feeling of empathy for the character and the experiences he had in prison.
Critical Analysis on a Tina Modotti Photograph Tina Modotti was from a very poor working class society. She was brought up in the northeast part of Italy, in Udine, Friuli. She was born at the tail end of the industrial revolution, in 1896. However, you could say, by all means, that her village hadn't changed the slightest since the seventh century. She lived vigorously throughout her childhood, working endless hours in a silk-textile factory to earn a cash flow and to support the family through starvation.
The women-centered event I chose to attend for this assignment was a workshop called ‘Look Good, Feel Better’. Doing a little bit of background research I found that this workshop is Canada’s only charitable cancer program that is dedicated to empowering women on how to manage the effects cancer and its treatments can have on their appearance. Using the example of the ‘Look Good Feel Better’ workshop for women undergoing cancer treatment, I will analyze the concept of body image, Third Wave Feminism idea of empowerment along with the difference between men and women’s appearance in society.
Photography, among many things, is a medium used to further the connection between a reader and the story. It does this by drawing the reader into the world of the photograph, and allowing them to experience the realism of the scenario. This connection has amplified the level of communication between humans, namely, in the field of journalism. In the article “To Tell the Truth: Codes of Objectivity in Photojournalism” written by Donna Schwartz, she discusses the methods employed by photojournalists to manipulate photos in order to give the desired effect, or connection. These methods, along with others from “Critical Media Studies” written by Brian Ott and Robert Mack, will be used to analyze the following photo to show how they create the
A lie is defined as a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth; a falsehood or to convey a false impression. “Art is a lie that brings us nearer to the truth” (Pablo Picasso) could not be any more accurate. Can the intake of untrue information lead to the discovery of a truth? I believe that Picasso was insinuating that art is merely an imitation of life therefore there must be some truth to it. Photography is the art form that is able to depict this ideal the best. The theories of truth are the pragmatic, correspondence, coherence are brought about with a good photograph. A photograph is an image created by light entering a light sensitive surface, film and or in the digital camera age an electronic imager. The lenses of a camera used to focus the image are able to take in visible wavelengths of light into an accurate reproduction. Therefore a camera is a tool in which the artist may chose to capture the world, but also edit it.

Figure 8 is a photo of my mom, uncle and grandparents at my uncle’s middle school graduation. This picture was probably taken in the mid 1970s considering my uncle was born two years before my mom. My grandpa is wearing a single breasted navy blazer, with a white button down shirt, plaid trousers, a D ring belt, and a large red bowtie. A brochure on Ivy League style describes the classics of Ivy League style as, “Shetland tweeds, grey flannels, Oxford button-downs, and repp ties, as well as the more casual seersucker, madras, and khaki have been worn for decades” (“Ivy Style”, 2012). Since the fabric of the pants can’t be identified just by looking at the picture, it can be assumed that the trousers are madras or it could be a basic pair of

A Fashion photograph is not just there for you to look at and like or dislike and pass it through your memory. But it’s there to give you a storyline, a desire, an illusion and a fantasy. The image makes you want to buy what is being advertised to you.
Photojournalism plays a critical role in the way we capture and understand the reality of a particular moment in time. As a way of documenting history, the ability to create meaning through images contributes to a transparent media through exacting the truth of a moment. By capturing the surreal world and presenting it in a narrative that is relatable to its audience, allows the image to create a fair and accurate representation of reality.
Since I was a child photography has been an art that I have held close to my heart. For me ,photography has always been an escape from reality. I loved the way you can take a picture of something so simple and if it is composed in just the right way, it can be a complete work of art. Or how photography can offers people the chance to see how others see them. So often we get stuck in our own neurosis about ourselves that we can't see the strength and beauty we hold. This is where the concept of Sacred Healing Photography came to me. For many women who are struggling with healing their sacred womb, there is a real lack of self love and acceptance. It's hard to feel beautiful, wild, and sexy when you are fighting the demons of your lower chakras.
My thoughts on my photograph being taken in particular have changed drastically over time. When I was younger, I literally gave no thought to my photo being taken, I barely even remember them being taken. When I look at the photographs of my childhood, I remember the moment in which they were taken, but I don't remember the photo actually being taken. Now I always know when someone is taking a picture of me, sort of like a sixth sense. I think the reason behind that is that when I was younger I loved my photo being taken and now I hide from the camera. Mostly because of insecurities and knowing how quickly a photo can travel now through the internet and social media.
There are so many different opinions on what beauty is. The idea of beauty is purely opinionated. Beauty is your own idea, skinny or thick, long hair or short hair, light skin or dark skin. How people define beauty is unique in many different ways everyone has a different opinion. No ones idea of beauty is the same. In society today it has become more materialistic based if you wear the latest designer or you have the newest pair of sneakers out and the true meaning of being beautiful has escaped our souls. Beauty is not just what we see on the outside it is so much deeper then what we see its what we also have to offer on the inside.Your intelligence is beauty your mind, body, and soul. Beauty is not a single image, but the active embodiment
