After a scolding from his mother, Gary walks away from home in the essay, “The Stray,” by Gary Soto. While walking he comes across a stray dog. The lonely two walk for a mile. After walking for a while the two jump up on a car hood. While upon the hood, Gary tells the stray everything about himself. After a while, Gary decides it is always best to touch instead of tell. Time passes and the two hop down from the car. Gary unsuccessfully is able to feed the dog an orange, so he rummages through a garbage can to find the dog any leftovers. Before returning home, Gary names the stray Charlie. The next morning he finds stray in his garbage cans, calls the name “Charlie” and the dog looks up. This essay showed how someone is always there, even when
you are lonely. For Gary it was the stray, and vice versa, which is why this essay appealed to me.
Henry was an extremely lonely nine-year-old boy whose greatest wish was to get a dog. His parents were busy with their work most of the time and it seemed that Henry did not have any friends, perhaps because they moved so often. A dog would have provided Henry with unconditional love - something in short supply around his house - and would have been the perfect companion. The problem was, his parents did not want dog, which would have been another obligation and something else to take care of. As emotionally detached as his parents were, something else to take care of was just not desirable.
Gary’s life became enjoyable because he had someone to be with. This reminded me of the bond my pet and I have. When I first got my pet bunny it was a bright sunny day. On September 16 we got our bunny and named him Joshua. I remember not knowing where we were
In the passage, “The Jacket” by Gary Soto, Gary writes about a boy with an awful jacket that he despises. The passage uses literary elements to give the passage an interesting twist.
The conflict/rising action in “The Jacket” is he didnt like the jacket. It was an ugly green color and had mustard colored stripes on the sleeves. He just wanted to wear his older jacket and let his brother have the ugly new one. His mom kept begging him to take the jacket and wear it to school and always have it on. However, he did not agree with her opinion at all.
In “ The Jacket” by Gary Soto, the boy is ungrateful for the jacket he received from his mother. One person should not be ungrateful for what they recieve. “I wanted to cry because it was so ugly and so big that I knew I’d have to wear it a long time.” This quote shows how the boy feels towards the jacket. He is hateful towards the jacket. Hateful is where someone strongly dislikes something/someone to the point of where they would want to destroy/hurt them. He doesn’t like the jacket because it isn’t the one he wanted.
In the story ‘’the Stray,” by Cynthia Rylant, the main character Doris is an admirable character because of what she does. Doris can be a caring person and she is very thoughtful.
Whilst the concept of autism and what it means to be autistic is still widely unrecognised by many, Mark Haddon’s use of conventions of prose fiction and language amplifies the distinctive qualities of the text. Haddon exemplifies key themes such as the struggle to become independent, the nature of difference and the disorder of life through the strategic placement of literary devices.
Mark Haddon’s book The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime mirrors the idea that trust is the glue that holds relationships together and how a lack of honesty and truth can create barriers between loved ones and shows how being honest can fix these problems. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime is a innovative and ground breaking novel that continues to show the understanding of the world by Christopher Boone and his

Should prairie dogs be protected or exterminated? People around the world are stating prairie dogs should be treasured. However, in the articles, “Denver’s Street-Smart Prairie Dogs,” and, “Prairie Dogs: A Threatened Species or Public Health Nuisance?” provides evidence that prairie dogs should be exterminated from urban areas because of their destructive impact on the environment and how because their population are thriving rapidly they are becoming an inconvenience to humans.
In the story, “An Hour With Abuelo” by Judith Ortiz Cofer, Arturo goes to visit his Abuelo and throughout the story realizes that he shouldn’t be so quick to judge the people that care about him because you might find them to be worth your time. This story teaches its readers that you should cherish the time you have with the people that love you. Arturo thinks to himself, “I want my mother to have to wait a little. I don’t want her to think that I’m in a hurry or anything.” (Cofer, 140) This quote proves that he realizes he has a lot in common with his Abuelo and ended up enjoying the time he had with him. Throughout the story Arturo and Abuelo realize all the things they have in common with each other. This idea brings the readers back to the thought that it is never too late to make a connection and enjoy the time you have with the people who love you.
Every play written uses dramatic elements. The main dramatic elements are plot, character, theme, and language. Lillian Hellman, who wrote the Little Foxes, incorporates these elements beautifully in her play. The play is set during the spring of 1900 and takes place in the Deep South part of the United States of America. Just as every other play, the Little Foxes has included the dramatic elements in her play, particularly the plot, character, and language that all incorporate an underlying theme of greed.

for dark, mysterious, and bizarre works of fiction. His works sometimes reflected his life experiences and hardships he tried to overcome. Examples of the troubles in his life include alcoholism, having his works rejected over and over, being broke, and losing his family, even his beloved wife to tuberculosis. There is no wonder why his works are so dark and evil, they were taken from his life. A theme is defined as the major or central idea of a work. Poe’s short story, “The Black Cat”, contains six major themes that are discussed in this paper. They include the home, violence, drugs and alcohol, freedom and confinement, justice and judgement, and transformation.
When Christopher finds his neighbor’s dog, Wellington, dead, his autism protects him from the emotional aspect of the dog’s death. Instead of getting very upset because the dog is
