Out of all the American Patriotic Songs, that I had to chose to become the national anthem, I would make The Star-Spangled Banner written by Francis Scott Key to remain the national anthem for the United States of America.
The Star Spangled Banner is a perfect song for our national anthem. A few reasons why this song should be/stay our national anthem is because in the lyrics The Star Spangled Banner talks about the American Flag and how it was still there, and Fort Mchenry never gave up. Every single sports event should have someone singing the national anthem. There is one side going against another side to win and to see who is better. In football games, baseball, basketball, etc. All, are having one team taking on another team to win and

see who is better. Just like the battle of Fort Mchenry where the British and the Americans were going against each other in a war. The Star Spangled Banner talks about the American soldiers during the war. Moreover, we must give them the respect and the honor they deserve because they fought with their lives and not giving up the fort. Also, in honor of these soldiers who fought against the British. In the lyrics where it says, “Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight” This is telling the Battle of Baltimore during the War of 1812. The Star Spangled Banner also says The “rocket's red glare and the bombs bursting in air” Were to describe the cannon fire from the British navy and the cannons firing at the fort. Then the line where is says the American Flag was still there which is the part where it says “Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there” Saying that we did not give up and let the British take Fort McHenry and put up the Union Jack. This is why we should sing this song because the Americans fought with bravery and honor and never gave up. . The Star Spangled Banner is a great song for our national anthem.
A few reasons why this song should remain our national anthem is because The Star-Spangled was our national anthem for many years since March 3, 1931, until now 2017. Which is 86 years that The Star Spangled Banner remained our national anthem, why get rid of it. People even say this is racist. If it is racist, don’t listen to it. How could this song be racist after all these years (86 years) they finally say it is racist and they want to remove it from the national anthem. All those years and now people finally want to remove it, well, it is a bit too late. On September 13, British ships started to fire tons of rockets and mortars at Fort McHenry, and the British did not stop until the next morning. Francis Scott Key spent that night assuming that his nation had lost its defense and the British had won, but once the smoke cleared the next morning, he saw the fort's flag flying high. The American Flag. Francis Scott Key immediately wrote a song about that moment, and it was called “The Star Spangled Banner” Later on after World War 1, the US made a call saying “They want the Star Spangled Banner the national anthem.” In 1931 it was adopted that the Star Spangled Banner was officially the national anthem for the United States of America. This is saying “The Star Spangled Banner is officially our national anthem.” Moreover, it was adopted. Based off on information that I have read, the Star Spangled Banner, should be sung at every sports event, or any other major event, the reason why is. When it says “home of the brave” this reflect the heroic things that the Americans did to defend their country. Which means “This is our home, and we fought for it.” The War of 1812 was later known as the “Second War for
Independence.” In conclusion, overall I think we should keep the Star Spangled Banner as our national anthem and sing the national anthem at every sports event or any other event in the United States of America, for the honor of the American Soldiers who fought for the United States of America at Fort McHenry.
Free speech and the First Amendment rights do not give people lisence to desecrate a symbol of pride and freedom. It is not all right to protect those who let it burn, lighting up the sky with their hatred. It definitely is not acceptable to insult the men and women who fight every day to protect this nation by burning the symbol of their labors. Therefore, it is crucial that the Supreme Court pass the amendment to the Constitution to protect the flag of the US.
“Land of the free and the home of the brave.” This line has represented the United States for decades. These words were captured in The Star Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key and since 1913, the United States has adopted The Star-Spangled Banner as its national anthem. We have used the Red, White, and Blue as one of our nation’s symbols. It has fifty stars, to represent the number of states we have in our Union. The military pledges its allegiance to the flag and the country which it represents at all costs. We are the land of the free and the home of the brave, and we are proud to show it.
In the short story, “Fourth of July”, Audre Lord transmits the main message of how one should resist and retaliate when afflicted to prejudice. Lorde displays the message of prejudice early in the story when she describes the complications Phyllis had trying to get to Washington D.C. with her high school senior class, just because she is a different skin color as the others. Lorde writes “Phyllis’s high school senior class trip had been to Washington, but the nuns had given her back her deposit in private, explaining to her that the class, all of whom were white, except Phyllis, would be staying in a hotel where Phyllis ‘Would not be happy,’ meaning, Daddy explained to her, also in private, that they did not rent rooms to Negroes. ‘We will
...o captivating. Additionally, it does make an extensive number of appearances at various ceremonies and great events, such as the opening ceremonies of sporting events and national holidays such as Independence and Memorial Day. However, “The Star Spangled Banner” embodies a much broader and more abstruse, cryptic connotation. It illustrates America’s attitude of perseverance when facing seemingly indomitable adversities or unachievable ambitions. It represents America’s unfaltering faith, traditional values, and ethical laws that have come to characterize America’s individuality. It signifies America’s past, a historic reminder that unites the people and instills, in their hearts, a profound sense of patriotism and glory. Most of all, “The Star Spangled Banner” symbolizes the truth of what America truly means–“the land of the free and the home of the brave”.
Anthem is a story of man’s struggle to be free and to fight the masses of conformity. It tells of human nature and the want to gain all the knowledge that one could possibly attain. Man loses his safe haven and his security when he lets this lust for knowledge overpower him and lets it be seen by others. He becomes vulnerable Like Johann Faust, Prometheus sells his life for wisdom. Unlike Faust, however, Prometheus is expelled from his society but gains his freedom of individuality and his freedom of knowledge and the ability to understand. In Anthem, Prometheus and Gaea sin against society to become singular and understanding much like Adam and Eve’s sin against God when they ate the fruit of the tree of knowledge to gain wisdom; as a result, they can be compared to each other by there desire for learning and by their damnation.
For those who want to light Old Glory on fire, stomp all over it, or spit on it to make some sort of "statement," I say let them do it. But under one condition: they MUST get permission from three sponsors. First, you need permission of a war veteran. Perhaps a Marine who fought at Iwo Jima? The American flag was raised over Mount Surabachi upon the bodies of thousands of dead buddies. Each night spent on Iwo meant half of everyone you knew would be dead tomorrow, a coin flip away from a bloody end upon a patch of sand your mother couldn't find on a map.
The United States of America were not always united together; namely, during the Civil War. The country was divided on the issue of slave labor. The American Civil War is the fight between the Southern states and the Northern states. The south wanted to keep the slaves to continue to work on the plantations and farms. It was believed they were not capable of intelligence in order to be a contributing member of society. It would also cut into the profits of the owner labor costs. Northern states wanted the slaves to become free members of the United States. The civil war at its core involved millions of men, women, and children finding solace and strength were it was possible. Many found it comforting to play music or sing while waiting long periods of time. “Other songs motivated them as they prepared to do battle with the enemy.” (Waller & Edgington, 2001) Subsequently, The Battle Hymn of the Republic by Julia Ward Howe depicts the presence of religion and its important through the popular marching tune
Black anthems have a long standing history that can be traced through their African roots to modern day songs. Political groups have used these anthems to both lead and thrown into crisis their aims and objectives of their political messages. Not only have anthems been used in political areas they have also been used to showcase the culture at the time of their prominence. These anthems have many benefits such as uniting people together for certain causes, however, some of the anthems drawbacks are that they have been nearly forgotten as their respective political groups have faded away into history. The book Anthem: Social Movements and the Sound of Solidarity in the African Diaspora by Shana L. Redmond proves that anthems have been used
One may argue that banning the flag would deny free expression, but hanging the flag also says that racism is acceptable and the pain, suffering and cruelty endured by the African Americans has no importance. The color of a person’s skin should not be an issue, just like how religion and gender should not be an issue. The flag is a silent way of saying that one agrees with racism and the seceding of our country. Consequently, the flag should be banned. The controversy over the Confederate flag has been an issue for many years.
In the society of “The Anthem”, it is after the Unmentionable Times, and the word “we” is worshipped. The society is constructed that all men will rely on each other, become “brothers” of each other. However, Equality 7-2521 was a rebel. He knew that he and his brothers were just slaves of the city. He had broken many laws, and he was taller, smaller and generally healthier than his other brothers. Then, when he became fifteen, he wanted to become a Scholar, for he was very knowledgeable, but he was chosen to become a Street Sweeper. He swept the streets near the fields where the woman of Home of Peasants would work. Then, he spotted Liberty 5-3000 who was a young woman, he would always wave at her, and she would do the same. When Equality
There have been the fights for our freedom and fights against each other. Through all of the battles, the American flag stood strong and proud. There have been many sacrificed deaths for our freedom. The flag stands for every person that ever gave up their life for the good of our country. The people that were at the front line standing proud for our nation are the real heros. That is what the flag really stands for. The everyday citizens that continue to fight while we continue our normal lives. Many people may not think of the American flag as much but it stands for so much more than just what our eyes can
I do not stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. This is a right, shown by the West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette decision that students have the right to refuse to stand and say the Pledge of Allegiance ("West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette"). This 1943 case remains relevant to students today, who do not stand for one reason: they will not pledge themselves to a flag and a country that claims liberty and justice for all but fails to come through. It is clear that America has not achieved and does not achieve its promises of freedom for all, as demonstrated by numerous historical continuities.
Throughout the years there has been many ways to reassure and keep others happy. The Mayflower Compact is one of the United States foundational documents of great historical significance, it contains literary elements with other important U.S. foundational documents in later centuries. The Preamble to the Constitution is one of the country’s foundational documents, igniting a signal of freedom both to the nation and the world. Last, The Star Spangled Banner is a historical poem that is used for the United States. The themes that the Preamble to the Constitution has in common with the Mayflower Compact and The Star Spangled Banner is unity, freedom, and peace.
The story “The Fourth of July” by Audre Lorde demonstrates that she comes across a realization that she had to speak up for her rights and independence when she visited the capital city of the United States, Washington, D.C. Lorde explains how she was frustrated with the situation that occurred in Washington, D.C., which shows that she had learned the reality of the society. She writes about many things that she came across during the trip to Washington D.C. in the summer vacation. In the essay, the meanings of independence for Lorde are to fight for it and to speak up for the rights that they deserve. Lorde and her family visit many places in the capital city where they were told to leave the place because black people were not allowed there.
If you ever want to learn about a person, you can just ask them what type of music they like, and that can tell you a lot about that person. Songs like “The National Anthem” tell a story about our country, but it is often taken for granted and not given the respect it deserves. It is not the individual’s fault if they do not know the meaning. That is when research comes to. There is so much music in the world that has great meaning and history behind it that we can learn from.
