One’s ambition, when fueled by hope, can cause them to keep going when put in an adverse situation. When this occurs, it leaves a lasting effect on the individuals around them. In the film Shawshank Redemption by Frank Darabont, the main character Andy Dufrense experiences many hardships but perseveres through them using hope. Andy is placed in a situation that is out of his control and loses any hope he has at the beginning. Through the situations he faces, such as his encounters with the sisters, gaining funds for the library, and succeeding in his escape plan from the prison, Andy regains that hope which motivates his ambition to be free. In the film Shawshank Redemption, Darabont explores the idea that an individual’s ambition for freedom,
Jackson wants to find something that will make him feel like he has done something for his culture and his people. These sayings contradict his actions because every time he gets closer to gaining more money, he spends it. In the long run, Jackson’s pitfalls did not stop his determination to gain back the regalia and ultimately find his personal identity. Given that he is Native American, the reader might assume that Jackson has a feeling of resentment towards white people due to the displacement of his people. From the beginning of the story, Jackson reveals a protective feeling caused by white people.

Michael lived a very sheltered childhood in a middle class family. His house was located in a white neighborhood in Atlanta, Georgia (Dubovoy 113). Even being sheltered couldn't keep him away from experiencing some racist situations. All of his friends, and even his best friends, were white. One of King's worst racist experiences occurred in first grade. While playing with his friends outside they suddenly turned on him and wouldn't play with him "because we're white and you're colored." (Dubovoy 114) King was devastated and he ran home in tears. It was his grandmother who was there to comfort him, explained to him what racism was, and told him about how African Americans struggle everyday for their freedom (Dubovoy 114).
A theme that was apparent throughout the play All My Sons was that it is hard to stay hopeful when things aren't going the way you had hoped they would, but that does not mean you should give up. Onsome occasions it is just right to give up. For example, when mother knew Larry wasn't coming back,. It's not wrong to give up if you don't see a result or something changing,.,BBut at the end of the day you choose whether to give up or not. This means that sometimes people or things cause you to lose faith in a situation, but that doesn't mean you should give up. It means to try a little harder, and find a solution, or wait and time will reveal the truth. Readers see this in the play when the family grows a tree to symbolize their hope for Larry’s return, when mother doesn't give up on Larry even after all the others do, and finally when Ann doesn’t give up on her and Chris’ relationship.
