“SHHHH…!”
Harper awoke to the sound of hushed giggles in the dorm. In the moonlight she could see that the older girls across the room were dressed like they were about to go dancing with boys.
Harper squinted her eyes as they opened the door and the harsh light from the hallway flooded in.
She looked over at Saskia’s bed. Saskia had turned away from the door with the covers pulled up over her, she was either asleep or pretending to be. Harper suspected she was pretending.
The girls let out a final “SHHH…” as they quietly pulled the door to and tiptoed off down the hallway.
Harper looked at the big clock on the wall. In the moonlight from the window, she could see both the big hand and the little hand pointing to 12. It was midnight. Where were they going?
Harper had known one or two girls from that group sneak out before but never this late and never all four of them together.
Harper wondered what made them so excited as she found herself pulling on her sneakers and venturing over towards the partially open door. The girls hadn’t shut it properly and the bright light was flooding in through the crack and hurting Harper’s eyes.
As she put her hand on the door to close it Harper could hear noise on the stairwell coming from the boys’ dorm on the second floor.
Harper looked again at Saskia who was very definitely pretending to be asleep. There was no way she hadn’t heard that racket.
Harper understood Saskia wanted to be left alone after the Director told her she couldn’t be a Warden any more.
Joe said that Saskia had been demoted back down to the rank of an ‘ordinary inmate’ and she was just the same as everyone else now.
Harper knew that Joe used to be jealous of Saskia because he wanted to be Warden for his dorm and he got told h...

...e’s obviously had a hard night.” Tao spoke diplomatically.
Harper was squeezed into the back seat between the two of them and stayed mute, looking at the dark, wet road ahead as she tried to Minimize both Joe’s frustration and the pain in her foot.
She failed at both.
When Tao put his arm around her shoulder and gave it a squeeze it blocked out some of the pain and Harper lightly rested her head on his hard shoulder trying not to balk at the fact that boys always smell different to girls. She didn’t like the scent boys had at all, but Harper knew Tao was being nice so she just tried to block out his boy smell as best she could.
Suddenly realizing she was cold, wet, in excruciating pain and that her pajama’s were so heavy with rainwater she could barely move, Harper slowly passed out in the back of the taxi shivering as she wondered what Saskia would make of all this.
After watching the movie "Even the Rain", I was impressed how deeply it was thought out. With this film, I realized that people are ambiguous, and in different situations may not act the same way, showing the character from an unexpected side for others, and for himself. Also that history always repeats. Are hundreds of years old and forgotten, Read in dusty books suddenly is played at you through the window.
For my final essay, I have chosen the movie “Fatal Attraction”, and I will focus on Alex Forrest and her mental disorder. Borderline Personality was displayed in the movie and Alex had almost every symptom of this disorder. Throughout this essay, I will be discussing Alex’s characteristics, intelligence, motivation, stress, social influences and/ or personality theories, treatment, and if the depiction of the disorder and treatment is consistent with what was discussed and read in the course.
The film, Out in the Night documents a 2006 case in which a group of young African American lesbians were accused of gang assault and attempted murder. The film portrays how unconscious bias, institutional discrimination and racism contributed to the convictions of seven African American lesbian women. Three of the women pleaded guilty to avoid going to trial, but four did not. Renata Hill, Patreese Johnson, Venice Brown, and Terrain Dandridge maintained their innocence and each were charged with several years in prison. I cried through out the documentary because it dawned on me that it’s not safe for women, especially gay women of color. The four-minute incident occurred in Greenwich Village where Dwayne Buckle sexually and physically harassed
Moonlight is a motion picture with a tender, heartbreaking story of a young man's struggle to find himself, told across three chapters in his life as he experiences ecstasy, pain, and the beauty of falling in love, while grappling with his own sexuality and dealing with his more difficult past. Moonlight describes a touching way of those moments, people and unknown forces that shape our lives and make us the way we are. A major theme of Moonlight is the black male identity and its interactions with sexual identity. The motion picture combines acceptance and love with pain and narrow-mindedness. In it’s simplicity the movie is a chronicle of the childhood, adolescence and burgeoning adulthood of a young black man growing up in a rough neighborhood of Miami.
It is impossible to talk about a Wes Anderson movie without acknowledging its stunning color palettes and quirky storytelling style. In one of his most exemplary works, Moonrise Kingdom, Anderson uses a warm color scheme that blends bright and desaturated colors that ranges from golden yellow, vermillion red, creamy beige, light brown, to even a hint of teal. His color scheme, which is reflected throughout the film’s props, sets, costumes, title design, and camera filters, effectively evokes nostalgia, establishes the summer-like, dreamy mood of the film, and creates a distinct contrast between the different moral values of his characters. However, in the chaotic stormy escape scene and in the costume of Social Services, the visual design deviates greatly from the film’s primarily warm color palette and instead, immerse their visual elements in a deep, dark blue color to show the contrasts in the mood of the story as well as the attitudes of the characters. Overall, Anderson’s visual
...rself said “Deliberate cruelty is unforgivable, and the one thing of which I have never, ever been guilty of.’(Williams 93)She gets the better side of us and convinces us that she is different now, and that we should feel sympathetic towards her as she is driven into a state of mind that worries us as she has gone slightly mental.
After reading the directions and topic for this paper, I was extremely eager to get started. Adolescence is a stage of life that is very critical for a person. Speaking from my own experience, I know that the teenage years are a difficult part of life and during these years, one experiences a rollercoaster of different emotions, obstacles, and decision-making. Aside from the topic of Adolescence, I was glad that I could choose which movie I wanted to watch, and that was an easy decision. I decided to watch Sixteen Candles. The last time I watched this movie was when I received the DVD as a gift, which was when I turned sixteen. Watching the movie then, I obviously did not realize that most of the problems and events that occurred in the movie
Helen walked over to Isa and called a truce between the two and that she will ask for a transfer if Isa truly does hate her. Isa stayed silent and as Helen turned around she whispered do not leave me in all brevity.
She just sat there, silent. She couldn’t help but put this on herself, if only she had stayed with them.
"I bear no connection to my family. They cry and laugh, I do not. I am not mentally deficient, and I wish to be individually ranked and removed from my family as a politician," Holly finished, managing to hold her stoic façade long enough to convince Miranda-41.
Every now and then, one needs to escape the cynical world and delve into a bit of celebratory sugary sweetness to make you happier to be alive. Enchanted is the perfect film to lift your mood as you absorb the entertaining fish-out-of-water fairytale about a princess exiled by an evil queen from the storybook land of Andalasia to “a place where there are no happily-ever-afters”, New York. Giselle’s fiancé, Prince Edward, and her chipmunk friend, Pip, follow her to New York to rescue her. Meanwhile, Giselle finds shelter with single father, Robert, a lawyer that does not believe in fairy tales, and his daughter, Morgan, who believes without hesitation. The film Enchanted, a Disney film like no other, blends fairytale and reality when an animated

seemed silent and contented, she might have been acting it out, to buy herself time.
I began to walk around the inside of the cabin and began to wonder if these two exquisite girls are here all by themselves.
