“Rain Man’ is a movie about two lost brothers named Raymond and Charlie Babbitt. Raymond was the brother that suffered from autistic savant syndrome. Charlie did not know he had a brother due to a very distant relationship with his father. In the movie his father dies and leaves Raymond a three million trust fund for his care in the institution, where he has spent most of his adult life. Charlie is left with his fathers rose bushes and his 1949 Buick Road master that ruined their relationship. Charlie and his girlfriend, Susanna, travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to track down who his father left his trust fund too. While Charlie is looking for the person that just inherited the three million. Raymond was outside for a walk and sees his fathers 49 Buick. Susanna is sitting in the car and Raymond hops in and sits right next to her. He is blabbering memories, recalling that the 49 Buick is his father’s car. He says “My dad lets me drive it slow on the driveway. I’m an excellent driver.” Raymond was repeating what his father would say to him when he would let him drive it. Because Raymond is autistic savant he has an extremely good memory to significant things. Charlie came out of the institution pretty pissed off because he could not get the answers he wanted until he saw some man in his car with his lady. This form of autism is a condition where the person demonstrates abilities in far in excess that would not be considered normal. “ Savant syndrome is a condition in which a person with a mental disability, such as an autism spectrum disorder, demonstrates profound and prodigious capacities or abilities far in excess of what would be considered normal.”

Warwick Thornton Samson and Delilah, which was released in 2009 and Henri Safran Storm Boy, released in 1976, both invite their audience to view, how both movie represent Aboriginal culture in their own way. Exploiting the dramatic component of the Aboriginal cultural class, the director acquaint the gathering of people with youthful characters that represents the Aboriginal culture for as far back as two hundred years. Samson and Delilah are two Aboriginal adolescents who battle and take a stab at living harsh condition, as the director portrayed some of the negative side of Aboriginal culture. On the other hand, Storm Boy, is a film where the director depicts the Aboriginal individual and their way of life in positive point of view, for example, the wisdom and traditional culture of the old day. An autistic savant, historically described as an idiot savant, is a person with both autism and savant syndrome. Savant syndrome describes a person having a developmental or mental handicap of some sort with extraordinary mental abilities not found in most people.
The savant abilities are grafted onto the basic autism or mental retardation, and savant syndrome exists as a special condition in either of those two disabilities.
To be more specific, this disorder is referred to as Autism or ASD, Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Autism savant is “individuals with autism who have extraordinary skills not exhibited by most people” In his case a rarity of high functional autism. Let’s analyzed the criteria for someone with autism. I will display the three criteria’s that are listed in the DSM-5 “Autism Spectrum Disorder” the first criteria is deficits in social communication and social interaction across multiple contexts. Meaning having the inability to communicate effectively with a variety of different individuals. At the custody scene the doctor asked Raymond a series of questions. The specific questions that the doctor kept asking Raymond was “Do you want to stay with your brother Charles?” Raymond was unable to make the distinction between staying with his brother or staying at the mental facility with Dr. Bruner. Raymond kept repeating the same question and rocking back and forth. Another instance is when Raymond was at the casino talking to a lady, but was unable to answer any of her questions with a direct response. Autism is a form of neurodevelopment disorder in the autism spectrum disorders. It is characterized by impaired development in social interactions and communication, both verbal and non-verbal. There is an observed lack of spontaneous acts of communication; both receptive and expressed, as well as speech impairments. A person diagnosed with Autism will also show a limited range of activities and interests, as well as forming and maintain peer relationships. The individuals will display limited interests, which are often very focused and repetitive. He or she is likely to be very routine oriented and may show behavioral symptoms such as hyperactivity, impulsivity, aggressiveness, and self-injurious behaviors.

Charlie at the time of his father’s death did not know he had this older brother. Charlie going over his father’s will, wanted to know why he did not get his father three million dollars that he had left someone else. After Charlie discovers who has all of this money he finds the person in a mental institution. As Charlie discovered that this person in the mental institution is his brother. While Charlie is visiting his newly found brother Charlie is going through Raymond’s baseball cards and Raymond gets angered by how he misplaces them and then Raymond puts them back in the exact same order he has had them. After all of this Charlie decides to kidnap him so that he can get all the money that Raymond is worth. Autism is a general term for a group of complex disorders of brain development. The Autism spectrum is vast and varies in degree of severity from person to person. The challenges that come with Autism Disorder include difficulty in social interactions, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors. Autism has been a diagnosable disorder since 1951. Treatment options have changed since the first diagnosis. Available treatment today has advanced over the sixty-three year span and has become the best possible form of treatment available for Autism.

Autism is a disorder characterized by significant problems in communication and social functioning. Autism is actually called Autism Spectrum Disorder and encompasses a broad range disabilities such as Asperger syndrome, Rett’s Syndrome, and Pervavasive Development Disorder (Dunlap & Fox, n.d.). There are also varying degrees of the disorder from low-functioning (no communication and no social interaction) to high-functioning (some communication and inappropriate but existent social skills.)
