As human beings, we are expected to analyze our own life, our own existence. This is because of the fact that we are only passing through this existence and after all, death will cut our existence in this world. Thus, the most basic question to us human beings as we pass through this existence is “are we making the most of it?

In his theory, Heidegger mentioned the word ‘anticipation’. Anticipation is different from waiting. Anticipation is waiting and at the same time we are preparing while waiting is waiting itself without preparation. Based on the concept of Heidegger, if someone anticipates he is cherishing every single time of his existence. However, if he waits he is wasting the time for no good. In connection with the film, the main character demonstrated anticipation as she waits for her death. She made a bucket list in order to make good memories before she die. She wants to be with her best friend. They went to different countries and tourist spots. She did not want to waste a single time of her existence because time is limited. All those things she and her best friend have done such as going to other country, cook food, and the like are rare moments for her, and rare moments are vivid and long lasting to
A Simple Plan is a very suspenseful film that is layered with many scenes that impact the viewer. This movie is about three men who live in Rural Minnesota who come across an abandoned plane. After searching the plane they find 4.4 million dollars in lost cash. They plan on keeping the cash if no one claims it for a long time. Along the way, there is a lot of mistrust, secrets, betrayal, and deaths. This movie is definitely a heart-
Sex, love, depression, guilt, trust, all are topics presented in this remarkably well written and performed drama. The Flick, a 2014 Pulitzer Prize winning drama by Annie Baker, serves to provide a social commentary which will leave the audience deep in thought well after the curtain closes. Emporia State Universities Production of this masterpiece was a masterpiece in itself, from the stunningly genuine portrayal of the characters of Avery and Rose, to the realism found within the set, every aspect of the production was superb.

Zack Snyder’s 300 is a movie filled with offensive comments and brimming with controversy, yet it is the most refreshing sword and sandal film I’ve recently watched. It is not because of the blood, gore, or muscular men running around in black underwear and red capes. No, it is because this movie gave us Gorgo, Queen of the Spartans. Gorgo is not a standard weak woman who is isolated, glamourous, and on display (Mulvey, 753). She is “a loyal wife and Spartan patriot who fights the good fight on the home front” (Scott).
As we age, we take a journey though live that is uniquely ours. There is no one else who will have the same experiences that we do. These experiences shape our worldview and from this, we formulate our inherent values. Yet, as we start to face the reality of our own death, we tend to ask ourselves if we lived a good life. The question of a good life comes with sub questions such as we were successful, did we make meaningful relationships, and how will people remember us? The questions that asked need analyzation in order to determine if we have lived a good life and this paper will attempt to figure out what living a good life means.
Lessons that might be stark on the page are given life on the canvas that film furnishes. Movies are able to convey a story in an imaginative and inventive way. Some films are able to convey weighty messages in accessible ways. In some of the films this quarter we see echoes of the Three Jewels, these jewels often show us key beliefs of Buddhism and touch on themes of the course - Samsara and Nirvana, impermanence, cyclical nature, community, diaspora and among others. Film is able to deal with concepts as Three Marks of Reality, 4 Noble Truths, Right Mindfulness from the 8-fold noble path in a way that you don 't have to be a Buddhist scholar. You can experience the essence of the message. In a way this couldn 't be more American in nature, Buddhist film can present an easy entrance, an ‘all gain, no pain’ delivery. Seeing the message of a film loses the viewer theopportunity of self discovery and the difficulty associated with creating your meaning of the text is lost. This struggle of the mind is crucial for a lasting lesson to be gained. We see the importance of the struggle in the films discussed, Hwaomkyung, Why has Bodhidharma Left for the East?, Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...and Spring. Buddhist film is able to present to the lessons of the Three Jewels in an accessible way. This golden bullet of film leaves bright flashes of upsight that do not stick with the viewer as they might had the revelation come from more orthodox Buddhist
Before diving into the questions that arise with meaningfulness of life, it is helpful to examine two extreme views on the meaning of life, namely, the religious view and the pessimistic view. The religious view holds that life is meaningful because it is related to some transcendent purpose, which varies depending on religious affiliations. Take theistic religions for example, life is created by deity for
Also, in order to fully understand the meaning of this film we must answer two
Many people wonder: what is the meaning of life? What is the human purpose on this earth? At least one time in our lifetime, we all look at ourselves and wonder if we are living our lives the way we were meant to live them. Sadly, there is not a definite answer to the principles of human life. Every human comes from different backgrounds and different experiences throughout their existence. Each person is different, each with different emotions and reactions to their surroundings. People strive to uncover the secrets to the meaning of life. In reality, humans are given the desire to live the way we want and have a critical thinking mind, unlike animals. In the essay Living like Weasels, Annie Dillard believes we should live more carefree and instinctual as weasels, but what we were given as humans is a gift that no other creature has – free will and choice to shape our own lives.
...lly when it comes to be portrayed in movies such as the ones discussed in this paper. Both movies are meant to teach valuable lessons. Lessons which are pushing the human beings towards evolution, the dignity of living right by observing the existence as a unique gift and make us reflect on the fact that time is free will, an unforgiving champion, which do not gives us the right to return and fix a mistake. Any mistake in this life is difficult to repair, leaves scars and strongly reflects on the human generations.
us to nurture life, to love life, and to live it. Let's do our best.
It helps you realize the importance of living in the present. If you ever felt like you wanted to run away from the present, I strongly recommend you to watch this film, because you will get to self-reflect through the protagonist of the movie. I want to emphasize for those of you who have not seen this film yet, that you should not immediately assume the movie will be boring after watching the trailers of the movie. The trailer was poorly made, however the movie will completely blow your mind. It is genuinely worth watching. Before you know it, you might also find yourself humming the theme song and watching it again multiple
Prepare yourself to be overtaken by emotions as varied as joy, pity, happiness, anger, revulsion, surprise, and an exhilarating conclusion rarely seen in movies anymore. This film has made me grateful to be alive and that we still have people in cinema like Danny Boyle who understands the power and beauty of the medium. He knows that the perfect mix of a great story and the respective imagery can provoke unforgettable memories in its audience.
Movies take us inside the skin of people quite different from ourselves and to places different from our routine surroundings. As humans, we always seek enlargement of our being and wanted to be more than ourselves. Each one of us, by nature, sees the world with a perspective and selectivity different from others. But, we want to see the world through other’s eyes; imagine with other’s imaginations; feel with other’s hearts, at a same time as with our own. Movies offer us a window onto the wider world, broadening our perspective and opening our eyes to new wonders.
In conclusion, there are several different interpretations of what is necessary for a good life. It is my feeling that these three aspects of life are completely necessary in order for a person to lead a happy and successful existence. Without the push of mortality, humans would not be as appreciative of the time they had on earth, and be as willing to form quick bonds with others. These bonds that are created provide us with a sense of security and the ability to function normally throughout our lives.
