The Ghostly Inhabitants of Edinburgh Castle
Everyone knows that whether it’s a true story or an imagined ghost story the settings are most often old abandoned mansions, castles or graveyards. Ghosts become guests in hotels, motels and taverns. There are some less common places which mention ghosts but the one thing that you most likely have never heard about is a ghost haunting a modern apartment or condominium.
One of the most haunted locations in Scotland is Edinburgh Castle and the city of Edinburgh has been called the most haunted city in all of Europe.
The Castle
Perched atop of Castle Rock, an extinct volcano, Edinburgh Castle is well protected to the north, south and west by ragged cliffs that rise 400 feet above sea level. It is no wonder that this castle has been a fortification for more than 2,000 years. To get to the castle there is a steep road coming up on the east side. The castle offers awesome views of Edinburgh.

However the drummer ghost has appeared only when the castle was about to be attacked so he wasn’t around that often. This ghostly drummer was first seen before Cromwell’s attack on the castle in 1650 and the spirit appears to be a headless boy. It is not known why he now haunts the castle. Like many other castles Edinburgh Castle has dungeons where prisoners were tortured, where they suffered and where they died. These dungeons are now haunted by these ghosts and colored orbs are caught on film by visitors. One desperate prisoner chose to hide in a dung barrow hoping to be carried out of the castle and down the Royal Mile. Unfortunately this prisoner died when the barrow was emptied on the rocky slopes of the castle sending him down to his death. Visitors who have encountered this spirit say that he attempts to shove them from the battlements and when he is around there is a terribly strong and horrid smell of
Although she had just recently moved to Jamesport, she lived most of her life on Long Island and was surprised she had never heard of the restaurant. She began asking her waiter some questions about how new the restaurant was and about the owner and such. She was told that the mansion was built in the 1800s and was obviously somewhat restored. It was recently purchased by a local townsperson and had somewhat recently opened up. The waiter began teasing that the mansion was supposedly haunted because it was so old and there were generations of families who lived and died in the house. He was new to the restaurant but the chefs and other staff at the restaurant claimed they could hear people walking around and opening and closing doors. He told her that the staff generally liked to leave at the same time of night to avoid being alone in the mansion, being that it was haunted. The waiter made a point of claiming that everyone else says it’s true as well. He had never heard the ghosts, but he was sure they existed in the mansion.
Australia has the terrible condition of having an essentially pointless and prefabricated idea of “Aussiness” that really has no relation to our real culture or the way in which we really see ourselves. We, however subscribe to these stereotypes when trying to find some expression of our Australian identity. The feature film, The Castle, deals with issues about Australian identity in the 1990’s. The film uses techniques like camera shots, language and the use of narration to develop conflict between a decent, old fashioned suburban family, the Kerrigans and an unscrupulous corporation called Airlink. Feature films like The Castle are cultural products because they use attitudes, values and stereotypes about what it means to be Australian.

In King Leopold`s Ghost, the author Adam Hochschild conveys many attempts to challenge the actions of King Leopold`s control in the Congo. This was to reach an international audience at the time of the 20th century. Protestors depended on a variety of writing techniques to make their case successful. For example the use of direct letters to officials, published “open letters”, articles in newspapers, and public speeches. These protesters were George Washington Williams, William Sheppard, Edmund Dene Morel, and Roger Casement. These protesters became aware of the situation in the Congo in different ways. They also had diversity in how they protested through their writing. Although Edmund Dene Morel and Roger Casement share a comparative approach.
The particular story I collected takes place in Philadelphia, where ghost stories are plentiful. Philadelphia is an old city with a rich cultural heritage, and our founding fathers made history in the place that was once our nation’s capital (Eidmann). Many believe that their spirits and spirits of those from colonial times still lurk around. It is easy to feel like spirits are around when in a place where many people have lived and died before, and in a place that is filled with old buildings and landmarks. All of these factors make this city a perfect place for a ghost story.
All houses are haunted; all persons are haunted; throngs of spirits follow us everywhere, we are never alone. Every county has they own haunted places some more known than others. I know this very personally because I live less than 100 yards from one of those haunted places, Marsh Road. I will take you on an adventure though Wisconsin’s past and present gulls and goblins that will sure give you a new look on Wisconsin. The haunted places in Wisconsin are worth learning about.

Honestly, I dont believe in scay stories, but some of them can be really scary at times. Ghost strories like the ones in Illinois, England, and Louisiana might make you sleep with you light on at night. Many differnet variety of events and the sound of boisterous noises have been experienced in the haunted McPike Mansion in Alton, Illinois. A while family has been brutely murdered by someone and there was very litle evidence to be discovered in the case. A swamp that was a cematary was haunted by a lady named Marie Laveau and her daughter. Also a twelve year old child died by an accident and haunted the slave owners mansion all in New Orleans, Louisiana.
[Lennox] Here is a place reserved, sir. Macbeth: Where is it from? [Ross] Gentlemen, rise, his Highness is not well.” (3:4:47-49,53) In this quote Macbeth demonstrates his insanity because he thinks that the table is full and does not realize that the ghost he sees is invisible to the other sane people in the room.
The castle guards have had their fair share of ghostly encounters, too. One of them decided to take a rest during his rounds by the White Tower. Having removed his shoe to rub his foot, a voice behind him whispered, “There is only you and I here.” To which he responded, “Just let me get this bloody shoe on and there’ll only be you!” A large ghostly bear supposedly charged another guard and passed right through him – and the soldier died days
In scene one, the setting is revealed. It is late, past midnight, and there are no stars, making extremely dark and a dramatically perfect opportunity to commit murder. In any good horror movie, all the deaths occur at night, when it is dark. The location is a castle, which would have to be the eeriest, coldest, darkest piece of architecture ever constructed. Banquo’s “cursèd thoughts” (II, i, 8) keep him without sleep, in exact contrast with the eternal sleep Duncan will soon begin. Then, as Banquo retreats to his quarters, Macbeth’s imagination and intensified emotional exhaustion and strain generate a looming image of a dagger pointing to Duncan. “I see thee still . . .” (II, i, 35), he yells at the vision, creating a sense of madness. Again, “I see thee still . . .” (II, i, 45), but this time the hallucination is glistening with blood (and in all likely hood, that of Duncan). He casts this apparition aside and awaits his signal to make the final walk into his beloved king’s chambers. The bell rang by Lady Macbeth interrupts this thick, tense mood and startles the audience to either jump out of their seat or creep slowly to the edge of their seat. This also related to a popular sermon of the same time period, Meditation 17 by John Donne. A famous excerpt from it reads, “. . . and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee . . . ” (Donne, 284).
The story describes the house as being old and tended by an old man. The house is barely described other than it just being dark (paragraph 4). This adds to the creepy
Stories of ghosts have been told since ancient times, which contain historical figures such as royalty, politicians, and writers. Because of these prehistoric tales, societies began to perform

I know someone who carried around the haunted wherever she went, but most of the time she felt like the haunted followed her. The haunted state of mind was constantly with her never ceasing. If you are constantly in a haunted state of mind everywhere you go is going to feel haunted as well. Haunted grocery stores, parks, gas stations and restaurants. Everywhere she went suddenly had the same
