This Is Who I Am
In the article “Teaching from Within,” the author states, “When I do not know myself, I cannot know who my students are” (Palmer 3). The fact that I know who I am and how I want to teach will help me become the superhero that I want to be. As someone who has been bullied most of her school life, I 'm inspired to become a teacher who helps spread awareness of how bullying can affect students and their studies. This awareness will guide me to make the classroom a safe and a fun environment. I want to build a trusting environment where they can come to me and talk. I want to help students to change their view about school and help them to not only grow as a student but as an individual. I hope that I can be the teacher who lights the fire in their students ' lives in education and to help students better themselves in their future. I need my future students to understand that I am here for them no matter what. I want to be the teacher who is seen as someone who cares and is also fun and engaging. I want to help my students as best I can. I want to be able to assist them with reaching their full potential. I know that every student learns differently. I want to be able to recognize all their needs and learning styles and help each of them to succeed in life. Bullying has become a major problem facing the United States today. The American Psychological Association reports that roughly 40% to 80% of children are involved in bullying on some level during their time in school. (APA, 2014) The magnitude of the problem can be observed in the statistics. In the United States, a total of 4,080,879 children between the ages of five and 18 have been the victims of bullying compared to 3,892,199 who have reported that they have engaged in bullying someone else. Additionally, 851,755 said that they have been both the victim and the bully. That's a whopping 8,824,833 people in the United States that have been involved in bullying behavior on one level or another. (High, B., 2000 Census)

Young children everywhere have been affected negatively by different forms of bullying. It’s not just the person who is the one getting bullied who is being affected badly it is the bully as well. That is the purpose of why the best way to battle this fight is to continue on pursuing dreams and goals without letting others negativity affect future plans. There have been studies on why people have the urge to hurt others emotional. Also, more than a few articles on bullies are about their mental health and how it plays a major role in it. Even family background could have easily triggered the person to become a bully. As Espelage Dorothy, wrote, “ We also found that students’ perspective-taking was negatively associated with non-physical bully perpetration, while positive attitude towards bullying was positively associated with non-physical bully perpetration. Conclusion: The findings suggest empathy and understanding of how youth see things from others’ point-of-view may be an important factor in bullying” (Dorothy). According to Dorothy, there are studies on viewing major topics from a student’s point of view to understand the issues and learn to fix the problem. The students had empathy for those being bullied. In the study, students understood clearly that bullying is more of a physiological action than physical. There are bullies out there that are having trouble at home and these troubles are what make them angry enough to take it out on their classmates at school. And for this reason other students have empathy for bullies; they know there's a reason to why they have become a bully. Therefore, the best solution as Jessie J had written, “You talk that, Blah blah that la la, that rah rah sh, And I'm so done, I'm so over it” (Jessie J). Although bullying has always been a problem in schools, it has more recently become a bigger crisis with vicious consequences. “However it is defined, bullying is not just child’s play, but a terrifying experience many schoolchildren face everyday. It can be as direct as teasing, hitting or threatening, or as indirect as exclusions, rumors or manipulation” (Garrett 2). Most kids do not think certain actions are classified as bullying, yet they do not realize the severity of the way they treat their peers. What they may see as “joking around” can be viewed as them being a bully, and they may even be hurting someone’s feelings without realizing the effect that they have. This can then lead to school violence, which is a prevalent issue in today’s society. There are many causes to bullying and school violence and many effects as well. However, if dealt with properly, there are ways to solve these prevailing problems.
(PURPOSE) According to Bradshaw, there are many forms of bullying in schools. There is the traditional name calling, verbal abuse. There is also the sudden, and rapid emergence of cyberbullying in schools and children (Bradshaw, 2013, pp. 290). Bradshaw also states, that staff member’s role in anti-bullying prevention efforts, could help in the prevention in bullying in the school environment (Bradshaw, 2013, pp. 280). One goal is I want to see what I am capable of. I have a terrible habit where I doubt myself, and that doubt sometimes leads me missing out on life changing opportunities. There’s a saying that goes, “Doubt kills more dreams than future ever will” which really emphasizes how doubt is what makes us runs away from our hopes, goals, and dreams. It is something that makes us terribly afraid to try something new or make an effort with things. However, I truly want to not run away from that doubt, but to be able to overcome it. Even though I may be doubtful at times, I am full of determination to pursue excellence and strive to do my best in everything. For example, I want to see how great I can make my education be in high school. I have a strong connection and commitment when it comes to learning because it’s always a joy and experience when it comes to knowing new things. I believe that knowledge is one great element in life where it leads to the highest success, and it can only be acquired one way through diligence and effort. When it comes to my education, I make sure to not take it for granted and to never give up, even if it may feel brutal at times. In my opinion, I care what I learn and put towards my education rather than the grade given since with all the effort and work I put towards to what I am told, the grade follows. However, that does not mean that I am careless about my grades. I greatly cherish school and can be an example towards others at Rocky Mountain when it comes to setting academic goals and aspiring all the knowledge I want in my education. The syllabus that supports the practices of their students being kind, using communication, having a sense of what teamwork is and promoting the relationship of friendship. The curriculum will include lessons and various hands on activities that will have a primary focus on empathy, anger management, and the skills that are needed to resolve conflicts. My program shows that it is effective psychologically because it helps children with their altruistic behaviors, the reciprocity norm plays a role, it helps determines ones self-concept, and shows that even a bully can have self-determination, self-discipline, self-control and that their self-presentation will increase.

I would encourage each student that they are capable of whatever they desire, whether to grow up to be the first woman president, an astronaut, fireman, or a cashier; along with those dreams they must know that all of their dreams start in the classroom with their education. I will also teach them that whatever they desire in their future, to be the best they can be. It’s funny how quickly time flies by it seems like just yesterday I was complaining about writing the first part of this assignment. Looking back at it now, the reasons why I want to become a teacher remain the same. I want to inspire, shape, encourage, and mentor my students. I want to make the kind of impact on each and every single one of them that they will carry on for the rest of their lives. Whether it be simply believing in them, and telling them that I know they are capable of accomplishing anything they want to, or helping them through a tough time. My desire to become a teacher has increased tremendously the past 16 weeks, and I am so eager and excited to finish my education to begin my teaching career.
My interest in teaching started at a young age. I used to watch my teachers in awe as they were able to find new ways to get their students involved and excited to learn. Their enthusiasm to teach was so inspiring. I would often find myself using that same fervor as I grasped each concept. I, then, was able to relay it to my fellow classmates as a peer tutor. To this day, becoming a teacher is a passion that flows through me. However, my enthusiasm and passion are not the only reasons I would be a good teacher. ... Each school needs to evaluate how their potential risk and which measures to take to ensure the safety of students and staff. In addition, some schools have speakers come in and tell their story about what happened to them and how it has affected their lives. Some students may relate to a story and in turn can have a huge impact on their emotions as well as their behavior. In the end school bullying has been around for centuries and will continue for many more years, but prevention and awareness are key to reducing the problem with school bullying.
“Researchers have conducted that at least 25% of all children will be affected by bullying at some point during their school years, and many of these children miss significant numbers of school days each year owing to fear of being bullied” (Bray, M., Kehle, T., Sassu, K. (2003). Bullying has become a major problem for our students and our schools. Children are missing educational time and are losing self-confidence because they are afraid or intimidated by other students. We, as teachers, need to reduce bullying in our schools and prevent bullying from being a reoccurring issue in the lives of our students in order for them to learn, grow and develop. Our goal as teachers should be “to reduce as much as possible-ideally to eliminate completely- existing bully/victim problems in and out of the school setting and to prevent the development of new problems” (Olweus, D.
