Research Question and Keyword Analysis
In the current days, we have a problem with our youth, they aren’t finishing school. Majority of middle school and high school students will not graduate because of a problem called the “School to Prison Pipeline”, this zero- tolerance policy that has been adopted by many schools, police officers, and judges. In my research, I tend to find “How is School to Prison Pipeline affecting juveniles around the United States?”. This topic is very interesting to me because how are juveniles being treated like criminals at a very young age, when they have done nothing wrong.
The main keywords in my research are school to prison pipeline, race and inequality in education, racial discrimination, and disability. The sub keywords in my paper are the negatives of low income juveniles being affected, while the middle class and upper class are being affected in a positive way. By considering the negative and positive approach of School to Prison Pipeline we can see that a group of juveniles are having better lives while the other group of juveniles are entering the criminal justice systems and forever will be labeled as a criminal.
School-to-prison pipeline embodies an unescapable and intimidating horror for juveniles today, because they are being put into the criminal justice from minor offenses (Messinger, 2016). It is punishable by a ticket, court appearance, and even put away in prison or a juvenile detention center. Also, this includes the presence of a police officer at the schools, School Reference Office (SRO), which included harsh tactics, physical restraint, punishments that result in suspensions, expulsion, or “push out” of class (Elias, 2013).
