Pastiche: Marcelo and the real world
I went and looked over the hill side to the city of Vermont. This is one of the biggest days in my life, I think to myself. I glance over to the people I see showing up and I realize how much I have missed them, I see Arturo, Aurora and Yolanda and wave them over. Aurora comes and gives me a hug, “Marcelo doesn’t want to be squished before his wedding, let me go Aurora”. After about what feels like 10 minutes she lets go and we talk about what she has missed. I tell her how Jasmine is so happy to finally be living in Vermont and being able to for fill her dream job. We finally stop talking and I go to find Jasmine, “Jasmine, come with Marcelo to the entrance to welcome people.” As we are welcoming people,

Jasmine had left 1 hour early in order to start getting ready and guess who she took with her, Miranda leaving me to get ready with Wendell. We head to the dressing room and as soon as we are inside on our own, the old Wendell returns. “I told you I would find someone better than Jasmine, although I shouldn’t be saying this but Miranda is great. She has been a Victoria Secret model since 2007, she has been voted the sexiest woman alive and she is everything anyone would want.” “That’s nice Wendell,” I respond, “but Jasmine is the only one who I wish to be with.” We then got ready in silence. About 10 minutes before I was meant to go outside, Arturo came and started to comfort me that everything would be okay. “You know I have forgiven you with what happened with the Vidromek case and you have forgiven me what happened with Jasmine at the Christmas party all those years ago.” I stared at the floor but didn’t say anything, my eyes not meeting his. “But now we are grown up and I would like to give you the opportunity to be your own person. I am very happy to say that you went to Oak Ridge and now we can just hope for the best.” “Yes, Marcelo has forgiven Arturo and he thinks that it is time for Arturo and Marcelo to be friends again.” I said with a smile on my face. It was now time to go outside and walk down the aisle where the most important decision of my life would be made. “Let’s go Arturo,” I then stated and we walked outside into the beautiful
She quickly finished cleaning and went to bed to get some rest, as she lay in bed she turned on her phone and could see that her social media accounts were blowing up with the search for the mystery senior that had Tristan going crazy. The minute that he posted a tweet that said he had her cap almost everyone in the entire school had replied saying it was theirs. This made Armani laugh and thinking nothing of it she replied with a comment “wonder who’s” with that she went to
Florence is in her headquarters at the hospital, she works at. She is writing a letter to a patient's mother. When all of a sudden, Mary, a fellow nurse, walks in. Mary and Florence talk about how nice it is to work with each other and how happy Mary is here. Mary quotes, “ I’m glad I’m here with you Miss Nightengale. Good Night.” at the end of their discussion.Also, they talk about how both of their families don’t really want them there. They talk for a little and Florence seems very at home and happy. Later, after Mary had left, two gentlemen come to talk to Florence. It is Dr. Goodale and Dr. Hall that have come to speak with her. After talking for a while they both leave and let Florence to her work. In the hospital, Florence seemed like an entire new person, she was much more
Not everyone sees the world the same with equal understanding. Marcelo has autism and he goes to a School called Patterson where Marcelo gets help and improves a lot. Autism affects many social abilities in a person like reading facial expressions. Marcelo is told that he is ready to go to a public school, but he believed it was his choice because he can make his own decisions. Marcelo has always wanted to be independent, but was afraid something would go wrong. He got an offer to work at his father's law firm and it changes him completely because now Marcello had that choice to be independent. In the book Marcelo in the real world, Marcelo came of age by getting past his challenges. In the beginning of the book he didn’t know much about the
In Marcelo in the Real World, Marcelo is thrown into a world where he experiences things he has never seen during his protected life at Patterson. Even though MArcelo is working in the mailroom, he is still forced to make decisions that go against his moral values. He s forced to choose between doing what he believes is right and what others are telling him is right. This is the internal battle that everyone must face in life and often one has trouble choosing what side to follow.
When I returned home the town had a slightly darker tone to it. The bookstore was just as I remembered it. Caroline had taken great care of the place. I entered the store with the newspaper like I always did I was so excited to Martin and Caroline and I was proud of what we’d done. Martin told Caroline to take the rest of the day off. When she left we kissed again. We were both more mature with our feelings and accepting of our
Arriving at Lacey’s house I walk to the backdoor letting myself into the house. Lacey was putting on tanning lotion in the kitchen, “Lacey,” I called to her, “my mom wants me to pick up snacks for the beach, do you want to go into town with me?”, “Sure,” she replied, “do you mind if my cousin comes with us?”, “Of course I don’t mind,“ I answered, “but we have to get moving, my dad only left me the car to use ‘til noon.”
We all hugged one last time before jumping I could not believe that this would be the last time I would ever see my family. Dominique and I went to the edge of the Freight car and we counted down, “1...2...3!” As we jumped the only thing I could hear was the shot of a rifle and a short cry from Dominique. Once I got up from the frigid snow I looked to my left and saw the dead corpse of my brother Dominique. I broke down crying
I enjoyed reading Marcelo in the Real World. This book brought out different aspects of the life of an individual with a disability. In many instances, I was wondering how the author was capable of bringing out real occurrences of what a person may experience with a disability without being disabled. In many portions of the book, I remember visualizing what was actually going on. The author did a great job being specific and detailed about instances within the story. I would often wonder about my own experiences with people with disabilities, and wondering if I have said or done something that may have been confusing or unclear for them to comprehend. This book definitely gave me a sense of being more sensitive to those that may experience
As we’re all walking on the pier to look for the bike shop, somehow we got separated. Jada was with me and her phone was dead so either of us can’t call Annel or Kevin. Jada and I then stroll back and forth on the pier to look for them but there was no luck. As we’re walking hastily, I panicked because I don’t know what could have happened to her or Kevin at this crowded beach and her mom trusted her safety to me;

Music filled our ears until we reached the last stop, our stop. Idalys was waiting for us at the bus stop for at least 30 minutes already because we might have told her a miscalculated arrival time. She was sending periodic pictures of a spider accompanying her inside the sketchy bus stop. When we finally got off the bus and saw her, all three of us sprinted toward each other in slow-mo movie fashion and collided into a hug. Sage was in the middle of an acapella performance that Idalys had to leave in order to come pick both of us up.
When I arrived to Starkfield I didn’t really know what to expect but I felt good knowing Zeena wanted me to help around the house. I didn’t expect Starkfield to be so cold when I got off the train I felt very sick but I didn’t want to show it because I didn’t want to cause any extra work for Zeena or Ethan. I didn’t expect ethan to look as he did, I thought he looked older but he didn’t look as old. I didn’t know his leg was that bad I thought it was a slight injury until I saw him walking up to me. When I arrived home I felt good seeing Zeena she gave me a hug and showed the room that belonged to Ethan’s mom which now belonged to me. The ride from home was very long, I just wanted some rest because I also started to feel really ill. The day
Once her parents walked away, Jason approached his future bride and cleared his throat. "Hey....look, I know what happened with us through our childhood is in the past. We were kids then. I'm willing to put it behind me and try to get along for the sake of our parents. If you want to, great...if not, then can we at least get through this night and fake like we're on board for this? This is my way of extending an olive branch and letting bygones beat bygones. So what do you say?" Jason did have to admit, since he'd last seen her, she'd really blossomed and matured into a gorgeous woman and if she was willing to put their past behind them then this would be smooth sailing. But his gut was telling him that old feelings don't die so
Right now, a buzz is going through the hall in which all the seniors are waiting and they look like bees swarming in the hall. It’s becoming hot and we’re all getting impatient. Amber is more composed and enjoying the good times in the present. She is standing there happy but sad to be dispersing from the rest of her classmates. Ann, the smartest one is having a little fun but not really. Her feelings are that of a person who realizes she’s going to miss what she had, but wanting to get the ceremony over with because it’s taking too long. Standing in that room we are together and enjoying one last real time capturing a picture with each other. Amber’s mom is so proud of her daughter that she keeps talking and smiling and trying to part of every MOMent. Amber is thinking to herself that she wishes her mom weren’t there but she’s ‘happy inside because someone is cooing over’ her. As Ann is standing beside Amber she keeps getting these expressions that say, she likes being with her friends but, ‘what is taking so long? Can’t we get out of these dang robes, yet?’
Now we had to make the long trip back to Mrs. Tina’s house. It was such a long day, and we were extremely tired so we decided to skip dinner. We took showers, put on our pajamas, brushed are teeth, and went to bed. Over the next few days we went to the beach, had picnics in the park, went bike riding and skating, and took a trip to the mall. We had such a fun week, but now it was time to go home. So, we thanked Mrs. Tina and her family for being so generous and welcoming to us. We told them that they would have to come visit us so we could return their kindness they showed us. So, we gave them hugs and kisses and we headed back to Las Vegas.
