Physical features are the traits that you can see at first glance. They are your eyes, nose, ears, mouth and more. These body parts are influenced and molded by generations of DNA that has passed down from one individual to another. Therefore, resemblances with your parents are noticeable. Consequently a person’s humor, dreams, and interests are different story. These things are the bases on what make each and every one of us unique. In the studies of psychology, people debate whether these traits are influences by your DNA or that it is absorbed by your experiences throughout life (Sincero). An example of this trait is called the Gay gene (Sincero). This discovery solidifies the argument of the Nature Theory. It states that this gene is imbedded in the genetic code of homosexuals and that explains that gays are actually born that way. Consequently, this fact isn’t truly valid. According to Michael Bailey, a psychologist at Northwestern University in Illinois, 33 out of 40 gay participants only carry this gene (Bindel). His example is “All children are bad at one time in their lives; consider this; a 4 year old girl throws a book at her brother, and is punished by being put in the corner” (Sincero). “She doesn't like being made to stay in the corner, but she should be able to put two and two together and learn that throwing books is wrong” (Sincero). In the novel, Not My Fathers Son by Alan Cumming, the brothers were raise by a strict and abusive father. In Alan’s memoirs, his father would discipline him and made him work harder than he should; however, this action contributed to his character of being a person who works hard and puts his efforts towards his passion (Alan 50). Furthermore, he was robbed of his childhood which made his adult life trying to regain what he had lost (Alan 78). This made Alan develop more of a child life personality.
