Media Bias in the news
Purpose
Media bias is a problem that has been bothering and affecting people everyday. Especially now, where Thailand’s current political situation has been a subject in the media all around the world, it has often been reported about it with biased viewpoints in foreign countries. I believe that it’s important to provide people with information from an unbiased point of view, so that everyone has the chance to form their own opinion. So, I would like to focus on the effects this media bias has on Thai people as well as on foreigners, the problems it causes, the influence of Thai culture and history on Thailand’s current situation and what

First, Thai culture and history is not taught in schools in Europe. In history class, students are taught about the most important events in world history that occurred in the past including the Renaissance, the Industrial Revolution, the Egypt's contribution to mathematics and Geometry, the Creation of the Rome, the unification of Ancient China as well as World War 1 and 2. However, Thai history and culture are not related to any of these events. Second, if a person is not particularly interested in Thailand and its culture and history, he or she will most likely not hear or see much about it on the radio or television. News about Thailand that are broadcasted in foreign countries usually don’t include too much details or the influence of Thai culture and history on an issue. The only opportunity for foreigners to actually learn more about Thai culture and history is to go on a trip to Thailand to make their own experiences or to learn more about it by watching documentaries about Thai culture and history. Foreigners certainly do have some knowledge about Asian countries’ culture and history; nevertheless, it is very limited and surely not enough to fully understand …show more content…

Evaluation: The source seems to be only partially credible since most of the information has been obtained by primary research, but no author is mentioned. Also, the article has been published on the website of the CBS, an American commercial broadcast television network, therefore the information might not be as reliable as others. Nevertheless, in this article there seems to be no
Through manipulation and lies, media manages to modify objective news into biased news in order to convince the public of what the media wants them to believe. The article, “How the Media Twist the News”, by Sheila Gribben Liaugminas discusses the major influence that news has on readers based on their choice of stories and words. “How the Media Twists the News” has borrowed from multiple other texts such as the books like Public Opinion and Liberty and News, news magazine writers such as Ruderman, and news networks like CBS through Bias, A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distort the News and CNN to make her arguments valid and prove that the news is biased and that it does influence readers significantly because of it.
The usage of media is huge in nowadays. People rely on different kinds of media to receive information in their everyday life because they are thirsty for the diverse and informative content. However, inaccurate portrayals of people from different races always appear in the media and audience will exaggerate those portrayals by their inflexible beliefs and expectations about the characteristics or behaviors of the portrayals’ cultural groups without considering individual variation (Ting-Toomey and Chung, 2012); in fact, it is also called as stereotypes. According to a study by the Center for Integration and Improvement of Journalism at San Francisco State University (Stein, 2012), racial stereotyping continues to occur in media and the mainstream media's coverage of different cultural groups is full of biased reporting, offensive terminology and old stereotypes of American society. It specifically emphasizes that majority of the stereotyped characters in media will only bring out the dark side of their cultural groups which many of them might not be true, especially for the portrayals of black community: African American.

Themes identified were well corroborated but not declared was anytime a point of theoretical saturation Thus, the published report was found to be particularly strong in the area of believability and dependability; less strong in the area of transferability; and is weak in the area of credibility and confirmability, although, editorial limitations can be a barrier in providing a detailed account (Craig & Smyth, 2007; Ryan, Coughlan, & Cronin, 2007).
Television, more so than any other form of communication, has been the ultimate tool of the propaganda effort. It is the trustworthiest medium to give us the subjective validity of our beliefs which can not be proven physically. It is the ultimate source from which we get evidence about objective reality, motivated by our desires to form an accurate view of this reality and to act correctly. United States is the biggest economical power in the world today, and consequently has the largest media and news industry. The gatekeepers of the American news industry control all the information, and decide what to publish or broadcast, based on the ideology and the structure of the institution. Therefore, whatever is presented in the news would probably be a part of the popular culture (created by the entertainment industry) or would serve it since the popular culture itself is created for the growth of the capitalist economy and the homogenization of the society, which are essential elements for a stable system. That is why the American media is terribly bias in many respects, especially in the matters of foreign affairs, driven by self b...
The question as to what dictates the relationships and conflicts between the different political parties in Thailand is an intriguing one. While some may believe that the underlying influence is ambition, there is more substance to the argument that it is in fact political principles, personal loyalty, family alliance and, most importantly, political paranoia, which dictate Thai politics. The paranoia arises from a mutual distrust and fear that a fellow Thai member of the resistance may have some hidden agenda that is incompatible and in conflict with their own. This sense of paranoia is apparent in both the way in which Pramoj was hesitant to accept Kunjara and the way the American Free Thais and pro-constitution NLM were suspicious of the Prince Subha-Svasti-led FSM and their potential motive to return Thailand to an absolute monarchy system. At a glance, Prince Subha Svasti as a natural leader for the Free Siamese movement and one that facilitated the emergence of the movement in the UK. A true patriot, he was quick to oppose the Japanese when they invaded Thailand and attacked th...
This theory focuses on the media effects of framing the news to society. The opinion of the public is being shaped by the agenda of news media. Agenda Setting Theory has two keys of assumptions that is news media have their agenda and tells people what ‘news’ is important. Secondly, most people would like to help in understanding and evaluating politics and public reality. Some audience’s thought will be easily influenced by certain topics or issues that reported in the news. For example, presidential election in United State. More news on the particular topic, more attention of peoples to the news. Therefore, the audiences will be control of the news
Media has always had the power to transform ideas through what it represents. Most of the media we experience today is part of a global message which we absorb into our everyday lives; our customs, cultural coding, religious views and political standings. Due to satellite televesion, nations everywhere are able to tune into the world on a larger scale putting each nation under a single umbrella of opinions and views e...
For the last several years, Thailand is in spotlight from the international as a result of the existing political conflicts between two social forces, the Yellow and the Red shirt movement. The starting point of the battle between the Yellow and the Red began in September 2005 which initiative movement by the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) against the Thaksin and Thai Rak Thai government. Nevertheless, another forces, which at the first stage, come from the Thaksin’s lovers has formed the Against PAD movement – which later after the September coup in 2006, they changed their name to be the United front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) – to battle against the PAD movement. The struggle between these two social blocs has a great deal increasing complexities of the movement and transcending the pro – anti Thaksin dilemma in 2005 - 2009 towards overthrowing the Monarchy and the subaltern red shirt questions on social and political inequality in 2010.
Thailand, or as its known as “land of the free” is a very peaceful, individualistic country.
Media bias is any stereotype set forth by the media that portrays individuals to society in a certain way. Media bias doesn?t even have to be a negative portrayal, but more of an inaccurate portrayal of people that helps aid to the ignorance of individuals in society. In the following paper, I will give specific instances where media biases have occurred as well as show that it is a common occurrence that we may not realize. I will also show you why individuals believe that media bias is not a problem because if you can?t blatantly recognize it, how can it be there. I will also show how stereotypes set forth by the media sometimes mirror stereotypes that are set forth by society, and they only exist to help form the belief and value system of society. I will also offer possible solutions to such problems. Media bias is a large problem, in that its? existence is not blatant nor is it one that many people feel threatened by.
This paper aims to study the particular political culture of Thailand and further examine the causes of how it came to be now. It also aims to examine how this particular kind of political culture has influenced the way that the government is run today and most of all, its effects on the other sectors and parts of the community.
...l turmoil, but it is without doubt that Thaksin’s continued influence and presence had planted the seeds which would unravel the fragile peace. Thaksin remains a polarising factor in Thai politics and his connections with PT and Yingluck had cast doubt if Yingluck is truly in control or if she is influenced, or simply a puppet as some critics would suggest, by Thaksin. Yingluck’s policies also does not appear to be well conceived given the cracks that have appeared in them, creating doubts that it was meant to serve the interests of the poor or merely to placate them insofar to sustain their support for Yingluck. Taking all factors into consideration, Yingluck can be said to not have contributed to Thai politics significantly, primarily due to Thaksin’s influence and her ill conceived policies, prescribing Thailand a medication that has already proven ineffective.
The term citizen journalism or public journalism has spread widely around world as it has been connected to publishing the news and information. It can be defined simply as an alternative source of news which is produced and published by the general public. The concept of citizen journalism is not a new phenomenon and it has started long time ago. What has changed is the importance and the prevalence of the citizen journalists as an alternative source of information and news worldwide. There is an argument whether citizen journalism has transferred the news positively or negatively. Some experts argue that citizen journalism has many disadvantages such as lack of credibility and low objectivity which make it unreliable source of news comparing to traditional media. However, others support the citizen journalism because it has important advantages like promoting democratization of society and increase the speed of news. Therefore, this essay will argue that citizen journalism has apparently positive aspects in promoting democratization by removing corrupted regimes and being the first in providing media coverage.
The society in Bangladesh is highly polarized along political lines of two major political parties the Awami League (AL) and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Newspapers could remain outside and allegedly are toeing the party lines. As a result, people do not always get a total picture of particular issue or event and get influenced by biased opinion/analysis. This also acts as some sort of censorship by the journalists or newspaper owners. Similarly, the journalists unions are divided on political lines, which is a barrier on the development of
