Art is always a highly debated topic. What is art? What is artistic? Which is better poem or song? Music and poetry are both great ways to express artistic passion, and each have something a little different to from the other. Two greatly artistic pieces is the song “Chicken Fried” by Zac Brown Band, and the poem “Living Room” by david Yezzi. In this case, though it is a great piece, the song “Chicken Fried” by Zac Brown Band is not as artistic as the poem “Living Room” by David Yezzi. The use of similes, rhyme scheme, diction, symbolism, and just overall theme, truly makes “Living Room” the more artistic piece. Each have their pro’s and con’s, and each have powerful poetic devices, some more than others. Though both pieces have artistic grounds, both have elements that really makes them special, and different from each other. Which is more artistic can be debated each way. Truly, …show more content…
The song does have good rhyme scheme, which is a very important poetic element. Zac Brown band writes, “Well I was raised up beneath the shade of a Georgia Pine / and that's home you know / sweet tea, pecan pie, and homemade wine, where the peaches grow…” (5-7). Every other line rhymes with the previous. This is a good poetic element to have, considering rhyme is commonly related to many great songs and poems. This does not make up for the lack of other poetic elements, and the simplicity of the writing. The differences between the two pieces is still very vass. The two pieces have two totally different objectives, which makes them have different writing styles. Claire Dederer writes “Song lyrics do a fine imitation of poetry, but they’re not quite the same thing. Lyrics are a vessel, designed to hold a singer’s voice. Poetry is its own solid object” (Bad Poem, Great Song). To some, the dilemma is cut and dry, songs just can’t be poetry.
Both authors use figurative language to help develop sensory details. In the poem It states, “And I sunned it with my smiles, And with soft deceitful wiles.” As the author explains how the character is feeling, the reader can create a specific image in there head based on the details that is given throughout the poem. Specifically this piece of evidence shows the narrator growing more angry and having more rage. In the short story ” it states, “We are below the river's bed. The drops of moisture trickle among bones.” From this piece of text evidence the reader can sense the cold dark emotion that is trying to be formed. Also this excerpt shows the conflict that is about to become and the revenge that is about to take place. By the story and the poem using sensory details, they both share many comparisons.
Poetry and music both connections amongst each other, that make each other almost identical. Musicians use poetry to write their songs and sometimes write a poetic song first without the lyrics, then add music in it to finalize the song. Both are two different but the same style of literature. The poem “Promises like Pie-Crust” has two versions to it, the poem itself and the song version, but both are almost identical.
...ir food reflected this. Ray's mother was not only making biscuits to feed her stomach, she was also feeding her soul with the rich culture that exists in the south. Ray accepted her mother's wisdom with a grain of salt, vowing never to become her mother. She did not become her mother, but she did acquire her mother's undying love for that which lives around her. Through the simple act of making a Cracker staple, Ray reveals the truth that she loved her mother and disapproved of her giving up on her dreams, but at the same time she embraced her mother's love for all things and for the Cracker culture that can be described simply by the food we southerners love to call soul food. It's good for the body and the soul.
In today’s modern view, poetry has become more than just paragraphs that rhyme at the end of each sentence. If the reader has an open mind and the ability to read in between the lines, they discover more than they have bargained for. Some poems might have stories of suffering or abuse, while others contain happy times and great joy. Regardless of what the poems contains, all poems display an expression. That very moment when the writer begins his mental journey with that pen and paper is where all feelings are let out. As poetry is continues to be written, the reader begins to see patterns within each poem. On the other hand, poems have nothing at all in common with one another. A good example of this is in two poems by a famous writer by the name of Langston Hughes. A well-known writer that still gets credit today for pomes like “ Theme for English B” and “Let American be American Again.”
For many of us, one of the most accurate and effective ways to express the feelings that really matter to us is through music. We don’t only grow to attached to songs that are catchy, but also those with lyrics that we can relate to. It is not uncommon to feel like sometimes, artists can convey the way we feel better than we could ourselves. The storybook-like lines you read at the start of this page are a collection of lyrics
In todays society poetry is all around us, we use it in music to deliver messages to the average radio listener. According to SelectUSA (The creative Media industry in the United States) The United States music industry in 2011 reached 15.2 billion dollars. With the information given a person can tell that a lot of time and money goes into music in today’s society. The music people listen to have many different elements that an average listener would not pick up. Many songs have poetic techniques that give great meaning to the song that makes the song unique. The song I Love the way you Lie by Eminem and Rihanna and the song Airplanes by B.o.B are similar in ways they use poetic devises and how the over all message of the two songs can relate to the average person that listen to the song.
Pop. Traditional. Classical. These are all genres of music. These all serve a purpose. These are all important. Pop music has been used to help inform and motivate the general public during movements like environmental protection and gay rights. Traditional music has helped to guide us by telling us stories of the past from the church to the fields. Classical music has been played for royalty and help dancers spin a story. Some can be considered art while others can’t, but it often differs because the definition of art is in constant motion. The definition of art is a subject philosopher’s debate because it can be defined strictly or loosely. For the purpose of this essay, let art be defined as anything that can be touched or heard, and it causes a mental and physical reaction. Classical music is truly an art form because it invokes a mental and physical reaction from both the audience and the performers, and it has contrast to make it more dynamic.
Fried chicken, a meat product that uses parts of chickens that are “coated with batter and seasoned, flour, and fried” (The Free Dictionary). It is popular all over the world, but is especially popular in the Southern community. However, in the African-American community, this meat product has taken on a racial meaning in the United States. It has become stereotypical for African-Americans to love fried chicken, along with watermelons, cornbread, and collard greens. This new meaning to fried chicken has affected our social community as well. The reason why this stereotype exists in the first place is hidden in history, dating back to the years when slavery was common.
I believe that songs can be considered a form of modern day poetry as they often effectively use poetic techniques such as repetition, imagery, contrasting themes, effective word choice and climaxes. The two songs that I have discussed clearly possess and demonstrate these qualities and how effective they are.
In reality, we as humans, go through sturdy trails throughout our lives. Many people find numerous things to get through whatever they’re going through. People tend to depend on some form of art such as: music, movies, dance, and so much more art related work to help with them with whatever struggle they’re facing. Morris Dickstein, author of this article, is distinguished Professor of English at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and senior fellow of the Center for the Humanities, which he founded in 1993 and directed for seven years. Within the article, Dickstein explains how a form of art helps people get through depression simply because songs, dance, and movies are inspired from natural emotions. There is an unknown
...ast each other well. Both poems use imagery, repetition, alliteration and rhyming and both have many biblical references and rhetorical questions. Although each poem is different in its structure, theme and the way it is written.
To begin with, one way that each piece of text suggests the theme is through revealing actions. First, in the song it says “and I wish you had hurt me harder than I hurt you.” She is revealing what she thinks and is describing how she hurt somebody badly
The difference between these two songs are .One they are country and rap but that is something small .
The American dream is viewed in today’s world as working to make the newest technology and make life as easy as possible. This house embodies that ideal; however, it has turned into the American Nightmare. There is no work needed to be put in by this family to keep the house running. The house is the “human” working. It has taken over the American Dream. The home feels like a human would, but continues its tasks even after a revelation of emptiness. This building continues throughout the story to show its humanity and its willingness to survive.
Both poems compare in similar poetic techniques such as sound-alike words in different stanzas. For example, the words “dark” and “work” in lines 21-22 and the words “warm” and “harm” in the last two lines are almost rhyming to catch the reader’s attention to that stanza. The words “dark and “work”
