(4) Culturalcentrists are not new to our society. Craving familiarity when entering a new environment is akin to many as a basic survival instinct. The challenges facing immigrants anywhere are timeless and universal from language barriers to dietary challenges. New York City has Chinatown and Little Italy as a result of this. There is "Little Cuba" in Miami. Most recently, Islamic communities have developed in urban areas around their respective mosques. Culturalcentric groups have and will always exist in a nation as diverse culturally, ethnically, racially and religiously as the United States. (1) A student raised with the Culturalcentric lens may have difficulty adopting some of the traditional classroom norms of group behavior.
Many of the people I know, after they graduated from high school they move to another country because they are going to study in college. I did that, after I graduated from high school in Caracas- Venezuela I moved to Miami- Florida to fulfill my dream of completed a career and be a professional. All countries have things that are in similar and different. Two places I have lived are Caracas and Miami, both countries have different laws, education systems and the similarity is the security.
There have been several regions of United States that have gone through cultural changes throughout time. The indigenous people on the East coast went through a cultural change when the pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock. The people that lived in the North went through a cultural change when the French entered by the St. Lawrence River bringing their Roman Catholicism religion. The people that were living in what is now Alaska went through cultural change when the Russians entered the area with their new language and orthodox religion. More recently, the people of Miami have gone through cultural changes since the Cubans have entered Southern Florida. To understand the migration of Cubans to Southern Florida, one must be familiar with the history of Cuban migration, immigration policies, and their implications.
Socialization occurs within this perspective, individuals learn the rules of a group, as this theory highlights all members of society has a role to play. Social class is not an issue with this theory although value and ethic’s consensus is essential for effective functioning within society.
Cultural differences pose several barriers for students and may impair their opportunity to learn. These barriers are created by differences in language expression, communication style, preferred learning style, gender-role customs and behaviors, and limited parental involvement due to these cultural or socioeconomic barriers (Ralabate, & Klotz, 2007).
Meanwhile, multiculturalism in the United States has been part of their history, considering the fact that almost all its populations, including its founders are immigrants coming from different cultural backgrounds (Citrin, 2001). Due to globalization, there is no reason why other immigrants and new ethnic groups could have difficulty assimilating themselves into American life.
Located on the lower east coast of Florida the city of Miami is bordered by the Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Going east from the city the islands of Key Biscayne and Miami Beach help shelter the bay from the Atlantic Ocean, giving Miami a naturally protected harbor. The elevation of the city never rises above 40 feet and within most neighborhoods the elevation stays under 10 feet. The highest undulations are the Miami rock ridge which is found along the coast. A majority of the city lies on the shores of Biscayne Bay which contains hundreds of natural and artificially created islands, the largest being Miami Beach and South Beach.
It is our differences that make us unique and it is our similarities that make us strong. In science classes it can be difficult to talk about different cultures, but I think it’s important to create an inviting classroom atmosphere. It is human nature to associate with people who like you, talk like you and act like you. It is my job to create a culturally responsive classroom. Heterogeneous grouping is one way I combat this human instinct. When students are grouped based on their varying abilities, it completely negates the student’s ability to group themselves based on who they are friends with and what is most comfortable
Whether it 's for the music, people or food, Cuba is a popular and interesting place to visit. Cuba is located between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean. At 42,426 square miles, Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean and the 105th largest country in the world. Cuba has a population of 11.1 million. Out of that 11.1 million, Havana is home to 2.1 million (Nation Facts). The official language of Cuba is Spanish, but English and French are spoken throughout the country. The most practiced religion of Cuba is Roman Catholicism, but a large number of people follow the Afro-Cuban and Protestant religions. The president of Cuba is currently Raúl Castro, which is Fidel Castro 's brother. The currency of Cuba is the Cuban peso (Cuba).
Immigration came primarily from continental Western and Southern Europe a decidedly left of center mentality. This mixing of cultures in the American melting pot has produced a uniquely American culture. A culture which is steeped in tradition and has accepted the old world cultures of the immigration influx of the early 20th century. A culture which has been embraced, feared, and chastise by virtually every nation on the planet at one time or another. It is part of the foundation of study in understanding twentieth century American society.

Instead of America being a nation, we can redefine it as a multicultural society; or the lasting establishment of positive action for immigrants based on their race; or immigrant are seen as the big promoter of the America culture because they get into intermarriage relationship that expand their culture mix with American culture as the population increase. The Immigrant has been blamed of decline in educational and environmental standards in areas dominated by Hispanics. At the turn of the century a wave of new immigrants Jews and Italians were believed to be too different to assimilate into American cultural life. Today the same fears are raised about immigrants’ from Asia and Latin America, as their counterparts were in previous historical time.
The purpose of this report was to analyse an incident in the classroom where a student was convicted of being culturally insensitive, identify what occurred in this scenario, and isolate a solution to the problem.
Culture is a powerful influence plays a big role in our interactions. Culture may also impact parenting style and a developing child. Having a strong sense of their own cultural history and the traditions associated with it helps children build a positive cultural identity for themselves. This also supports children’s sense of belonging and, by extension, their mental health and wellbeing. This class is crucial in understanding and working well parents, staff, and children. An effective educator understands how students’ cultures affect their perceptions, self-esteem, values, classroom behavior, and learning. As director, I need to use that understanding to help my students and staff feel welcomed, affirmed, respected, and valued. One way that I can do this is by using multicultural literature, especially children’s literature, to honor students’ culture and foster cross-cultural understanding. If cultural differences are not understood by teachers and management, it can lead to miscommunication and misunderstandings on both sides. It will be my job to do all I can to overcome both language and cultural differences to ensure a positive learning environment for
