(4) Culturalcentrists are not new to our society. Craving familiarity when entering a new environment is akin to many as a basic survival instinct. The challenges facing immigrants anywhere are timeless and universal from language barriers to dietary challenges. New York City has Chinatown and Little Italy as a result of this. There is "Little Cuba" in Miami. Most recently, Islamic communities have developed in urban areas around their respective mosques. Culturalcentric groups have and will always exist in a nation as diverse culturally, ethnically, racially and religiously as the United States. (1) A student raised with the Culturalcentric lens may have difficulty adopting some of the traditional classroom norms of group behavior.
