In the novel “Like Water For Chocolate” by Laura Esquivel the word love is viewed uniquely by several characters, mainly by Pedro. He fell in love with Tita very suddenly not having the slightest clue of who she was. Love for Pedro was a mix of the looks of someone, obsession, and lust. Overall, he wouldn’t focus on their personalities.
Firstly, the interaction he had with Tita was when he decided to declare his love for her which he said the following, “Senorita Tita, I would like to take advantage of this opportunity to be alone with you to tell you that I am deeply in love with you”(18). This declaration shows he didn’t love her for her personality in that instant, it was primarily of her looks because there was no conversation where they’d start to know each other of what type of person they were, there was no much of a connection. His type of love was focus on appearances besides this declaration also shows he’s a very open guy, meaning he’s not the shy one. He believes that people would right away know when they’re in love by the way they feel. Though, he doesn’t keep in mind that some people interpret love differently.
