Lakme Fashion Week 2018 kicked off in grand style on January 31 in Mumbai’s ITC Grand Central Hotel. The opening day of the summer spring edition of the biggest fashion event in India belonged to Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor and his gorgeous wife Mira Rajput. The lovely couple walked the ramp for Anita Dongre and in the process becoming the most talked about showstoppers of the day. The duo exchanged sweet nothings, indulged in cute PDA including the cliché dupatta getting stuck moments and of course Shahid making his lady love twirl – India’s biggest fashion show saw it all. However, once you are over the ‘aww-so-cute-couple’ factor, you realize how poorly the two walked the runway.
Anita Dongre’s showstoppers Shahid and Mira turned up as bride and groom at the closing on Day 1. Shahid dressed up in white bandh-gala while his wifey looked resplendent in matching

My counter question is – If they’re not, then why to take place of a deserving model who works extensively to gain the much-deserved recognition. Modelling is a serious business; the male and female models undergo strenuous training to be able to walk a ramp. However, all the rules are flouted with underserving Bollywood celebs and their relatives taking the position as showstoppers and doing a bad job at it.
You would not find Hollywood superstars Tom Cruise, Robert Downey Jr., Jennifer Lawrence or Nicole Kidman walk the ramp at Milan, New York, Paris or any other top fashion shows worldwide. There are models and supermodels for the job like Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Karlie Kloss, David Gandy, Matthew Noszka, Rob Evans, Adriana Lima, Candice Swanepoel, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Irina Shayk, Emily Ratajkowski and so, so many more. These top male and female models have been lining up the best of fashion shows around the world and not unnecessarily side-lined by cinema
On television, people always see beautiful actors and now with Youtube and Instagram, these effects are even more exaggerated. While watching these people our view of how we and others should act, dress and look is changed. Models not only wear the most expensive clothes and extreme amounts of makeup, but some companies go as far as to photoshop to the point where the models can not recognize themselves. This goes to show even though we push ourselves to look like these famous people they have the same struggles they may just arise in other places.

“Girls of all kinds can be beautiful --- from the thin, plus- sized, short, very tall, ebony to porcelain- skinny, the quirky, clumsy, shy, outgoing and all in between” (Tyra Banks). Tyra Banks is a worldwide model, actress, and businesswoman. She has modeled for numerous magazines and brands, such as Victoria Secret, Covergirl, and Vogue. She is also known for her TV production, America’s Next Top Model. In this show, she helps women and men of all types to become a model. However, based on the type of model someone wishes to become, there is usually an image the company wants. If someone wished to become a model who walks on the catwalks and runways, the companies would only want to take the client if they are tall, and lanky. Modeling
With African Americans being apart of the fashion industry, they faced many hardships. However, they created a distinctive voice in the history of fashion. Throughout the early twentieth century, Blacks designers influenced the fashion industry in America, having, “a system and structure for maintaining their particular type of fashion.” African American fashion was very popular and caught the attention from the media. Department stores held successful fashion shows, screened fashion movies, and staged fashion pageants. Fortunately, African Americans were allowed to attend these events, yet they were not welcomed. Fast-forward to today, the fashion industry has opened up several doors for African American designers, stylist, and models. However,
The problem with this is that these unique designs are often inspired by different cultures. “There is still an issue of ignorance in our fashion world… I don’t even like to use the word racism — [they’re] ignorant. They just don’t want to budge. They just don’t want to change their ideas or be more open-minded, to just [book] a beautiful girl regardless of creed or color” (Campbell). Most of the time the new designs that are incorporated as the new trend of the year, are influenced by different cultures. Bryce Covert in the article, The Fashion Industry’s Race Problem: Models of Color Rarely Get Hired claims that it is rare when models of different races get hired. Covert supports his claim by telling how, many big fashion industries did not hire women of color at all. Furthermore, he said that 82.7 percent of the models were white. Black models were hired for just 6 percent of the “looks” presented to the audience. Latina models made up just 2 percent. The author’s purpose is to point out how even though fashion influenced by different ethnicities it is still modeled by people who do not belong to that certain culture. The author writes in formal tone for everyone involved or interested in fashion. This type of scenario shows how racial
Over the last few decades celebrity and fame has changed dramatically, from Alexander the Great to Kim Kardashian. Talent and achievements no longer play a huge role when it comes to our celebrities. “Much modern celebrity seems the result of careful promotion or great good looks or something besides talent and achievement” (Epstein2) with that being said celebrity-creation has blossomed into an industry of its own. Keeping up with all the gossips from breaking up to hooking up, law suits and drama many might come to an agreement that celebrity culture is starting to be the great new art form in our new generation and that it ...
Fashion was culturally formed, and there is a close relationship between art and fashion. The first designer who had his label sewn into a garment he created was Charles Frederick Worth (1825-1895). In the 1840s, adult women adopted a variation on girls' pantalettes as an undergarment. (Toccata: March 2010 toccatamundi.blogspot.com
Fashion and film are art forms that have coexisted for decades, and although they are different, they also possess similar qualities. Pamela Church Gibson wrote in her book Film and Celebrity Culture that “film had a greater influence on fashion than any other form of visual culture” (Gibson 55). Fashion is an important part of film as it aids directors and writers in bringing characters and their personalities to life. Simultaneously, fashion has also benefited from films, as films are a popular source of inspiration for designers, who can be inspired by anything from storylines to characters. In an article, titled Film and Fashion: Just Friends, for the New York Times, Ruth La Ferla wrote that “wittingly or not, those viewers take in colors, subtle tactile impressions or an overall atmosphere that can linger in the mind for years, part of a vast store of images that may surface at any time” (La Ferla).
The lights, the camera's, the designer clothes, and the beautiful models, all of these are contributing pieces of a runway fashion show. But the models who are strutting down the runway, showing off high standard fashion clothes, are not the only models that are out there. There are many types of models that work in this line of business. There are commercial models, catalog models, plus size models, parts models, and so many more. All models have something in common though, they all live a challenging life. Although many believe that being famous, or on the cover of top rated magazines will make you happy and feel fulfilled, living that form of life can create a feeling of having no privacy. There are many perks however, in working as a model. For example, if working as a runway model, it is not unheard of to have a salary of five hundred dollars per hour. That high of a salary is mainly only given if it is a very large name show. Catalog models can receive one hundred dollars to two hundred or more. The amount of an hourly salary is dependent upon the popularity of the company or brand being modeled and if the model has a good reputation. The life of a model is very busy and includes a multitude of challenges that the model needs to be ready for.
...the fashion industry for hundreds of years, as it is home to the world’s leading designers and has imbedded a natural sense of effortless style in its residents. Paris Fashion Week is the finale of the four fashion weeks and is still depended upon for dictating next season’s trends. The world’s most glamorous names in fashion like Yves Saint Laurent, Coco Chanel, Lanvin, Louis Vuitton, Hermes and many more are still based out of the city. Paris was home to the first fashion house and it was the city to coin the terms of haute couture and prêt-à-porter. To this day use they implement high standards and use unions to protect these sects of the industry. It is home to the Golden Triangle; shopping districts of Champs-Elysées, Avenue Montaigne and Avenue Marceau. For these, and plenty of other reasons, France can still rightly claim its title of world fashion capital.
Clothing has always been an important part of society, with evidence from the earliest human civilizations. In history, climate, religion and political factors played a role in the fabrication, styling and even color of the garments that people wore. Today, the fashion industry is multi-faceted, and while climate and religion are still some factors in how we dress, there are many more influences in what we choose to wear. Time and time again, designers reference historical styles and push them into modern trends. Subcultures illustrate how a particular way of dressing can transform into a lifestyle. Ethnic fashion ties in with a specific culture’s values and beliefs. By looking at clothing in other societies around the world, as well as the many global subcultures, we can learn a lot about the depth and complexity of the members that make this world colorful and diverse.
Introduction Historically, multiple styles of dressing have been created during the last several decades, which played an important role in modern fashion in the UK. Everyone has a different and unique dressing style in their everyday life. Some styles are influenced by vintage styles which are attributing to the deep effects of old vogue, and another group of dressing styles are inclined into the fresh element. Despite those different styles, some of them have even evolved into the milestones in fashion history. To start this essay, it will introduce the evaluation of the first significant revolution of dressing style in the 1960s.
Certain times have advanced fashion and the 18th century was full of days which led to it possibility for more people to know about fashion.
Imagine the feeling, while fashionistas are watching the runways of Paris, London or Milan to see what is happening in the fashion world, they also sit on the edge of their seats to see what Cape Town, South Africa is bringing to the stage! Priceless! Proud!
Have you ever seen a supermodel on a runway? The way they walk arrogantly in front of others. Ever wonder why? Because they know that their designers
