In the essay, “Michael,” by John Sullivan, he talks about Michael Jackson and the struggles he faced in his life. Michael Jackson joined the Jackson 5 at only five years old along with his older brothers, and not long after that he was on the road touring with the band. He wasn’t able to live the life of an ordinary boy which caused him to lose the opportunity to discover who he was as an individual. “By the time he achieves something life self-awareness, he is a child star.” (110) Michael Jackson grew up in the spotlight and that altered the way he matured. He tried to keep his voice at a high pitch throughout puberty in order to keep singing the songs and that made him seem more feminine as he got older. Since he never got the chance to be a kid he became stuck in the transition stage between child and adult. Michael Jackson felt closer to people younger than him because that’s where he was stuck mentally. He never outgrew his childish personality which caused him to stay at the same level of maturity throughout his life. This is why he …show more content…
He was made to look like a pedophile all across the internet and television. Anyone who could come up with a good joke about him would jump to the opportunity to spread it around everywhere. “...the only Michael Jackson I’ve ever known, personality-wise, is a Michael Jackson who’s defending himself against white people who are passive-aggressively accusing him of child molestation.” (114) He was constantly trying to explain that he was innocent but people would rather read a scandalous new story than hear the truth. Our culture has an obsession with making celebrities look bad and twisting stories to make them sell more copies. It’s inhumane of them to do and it destroys those celebrities careers and lives. There is little proof that Michael Jackson actually did anything wrong, but people still keep trying to convince us it’s

He flunked out of college in Seattle, was married two or three times and has fathered a few children and is now homeless. Also we learn that Jackson has some kind of mental disorder “an...

He could be sitting in a jail cell because he never changed his ways and lost his temper, or he could still be living in a small house in a small town.
While there is optimism in Jackson’s life we also find loneliness. The author shows the desolation that Jackson feels in the following line: “Piece by piece I disappeared” (p.170). The author portrays a slow dissolution of self. While there are people in his life there is a detachment as well. Throughout the story we realize that Jackson seems to buy his friends, through Rose and Junior with alcohol to the Aleuts with breakfast. Jackson’s “teammates, defender’s and posse” disappear and this further isolates Jackson. While Jackson lives a solitary life this does not stop him from buying friends where he
Part of that is because some people’s perspectives of celebrities allow them think as if they’re on a pedestal and are more important than the average human. When people vision these celebrities as these quintessential people it enable’s their own thoughts and opinions on the celebrity. It’s like brainwashing, these celebrities only show the media what they want, which allows them to put up a whole façade and mask who they truly are. During the O.J Simpson trial it opened more people’s minds to visualize the concept that celebrities have the ability to be just as deranged as the average person, and that we are all equal, but the only difference that’s separates us is the fact that their job is in the lime
“The Godfather of Soul”, better known as James Brown grew to be one of the most influential artists in Michael Jackson’s life. As a child Michael Jackson was intrigued by Brown’s flamboyant performances on stage and would soon begin to implement them into his own stage acts. By the age of five Michael Jackson was already sealed into a world of show business by his father, Joseph Jackson. Deprived of a childhood at a very young age, Michael and his siblings began a family-musical group called “The Jackson 5.” They began playing the soul hits they listened to on the radio all across the country. The band toured the Midwest extensively from 1966 to 1968, frequently performing at clubs and bars. In 1966, they won a major local talent show with renditions of Motown hits and a cover of “I Feel Good (I Got You)” by James Brown. It wasn’t until July 23, 1968 where they received major recognition by Motown owner, Berry Gordy. Gordy was reluctant to sign the “Jackson 5” but after their audition performance of the song “I Got the Feelin”, by James Brown, he changed his mind. In March 1969, “The Jackson 5”, were officially signed into Motown records. This marked a historical point in Michael Jackson’s life where his musical influences from James Brown would be noticed. His fame continued to grow, until 1993, when things took a turn for the worse. Michael was accused of child sexual abuse. He denied these claims, and the little boy’s family was finally settled out of court. It was around this same time in the 1990’s that Michael was struggling with a drug addiction (Merkin, 2009).
According to CNN, Jackson was taking more painkillers than he needed and he grew more and more dependent on them. He even had to cut his Dangerous tour short because he needed to enter a rehab program in 1993 (Duke 2013). Sadly, “Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009 at the age of 50. Jackson’s personal physician told police that Michael took the drugs to help him sleep and he had an addiction to the drugs. He even referred to the drugs as his “milk.” The physician tried to wean Jackson off the drugs near the time of his death (Michael Jackson Biography.com 2017). After his death, Jackson’s children were in the custody of their grandmother, Katherine Jackson (Michael Jackson Biography.com). Soon after, Michael Jackson’s ranch was sold for 100 million dollars, and would soon be lowered to 33 million dollars. Neverland’s name was also changed to Sycamore Valley Ranch (White 2017). Even though Michael Jackson was known as one of the greatest singers and performers of all time, his mistakes made him go down as one of the most controversial modern tragic

Michael embodied the talents necessary to take over the charts at his own demand. With a year of amateur performances under their belt The Jackson 5 returned to the Apollo for a paid performance where they were asked to audition for Motown Records; in 1968, the group signed to Motown where they later broke records with their debut singles (Heck, 2009). Though their first single, "Big Boy," never made an appearance on the charts, NPR says that with their new contract with Motown, Michael experienced a first-time share of breaking the record for having the first four singles of any pop group to top the charts. In 1970, the group made their first television appearance on American Bandstand helping them gain a national tour where they would be alongside Diana Ross. Michael, being the lead singer for more than two years, began his preparation for a solo career with Motown in 1971, at age thirteen; "Got to Be There" was Michael's first solo single, igniting his chart-topping streak within his solo career.
He pushed his sons including Michael into forming a group called the Jackson five. Their group quickly arose from playing local talent shows to landing a contract with the renowned Motown label at the end of 1968. During the early '70s the group became well-known, with "baby", Michael as the lead singer of the group. This talent dragged on for decades and gradually getting better and better, Michael taking the lead and as the main source of income for the family for proving and presenting his talent to many music labels and organizations throughout the years.
