n the “Pat Conroy Letter” (October 24, 2007) to the Charleston Gazette, Pat Conroy implies that the only good in banning books is giving students irresistible temptation to read them. Conroy emphasizes the dangers of banning books by juxtaposing books to real life utilizing diction, imagery, and conjunctions. He uses sarcasm in order to persuade the school board to change their book banning policy. Conroy captures the audience’s attention with a historical allusion to the Hatfields and McCoys to relate to the people in Charleston, West Virginia using sarcasm and humor in hopes of convincing that censorship is wrong.
Chris McCandless lived a life in which he disgusted by human civilization, and left it, eventually being led to his death in Alaska. “Pass On” written by Michael Lee is a free verse poem informing readers on grief, which is one of the most difficult obstacles to overcome not only when losing a loved one, but also in life itself. “Pass On” successfully developed this topic through the setting of an unknown character who explains his or her experience of grief. Despite Lee never introducing this character, readers are given enough information to know how they are overcoming this difficult obstacle. In fact, this unknown character is most likely the writer himself, indirectly explaining his moments of grief. One important piece of information Lee provides is the fact that he has experienced loss twice, one with his grandfather and the other a friend who was murdered by the
My Cousin Vinny is a classic comedy movie involving mostly underrated actors, but somewhat more surprising is the accuracy of which it depicts the court proceedings. The movie portrays all of the significant aspects of an actual criminal trial, however it leaves out less “entertaining” portions of the court process. This being said, I would recommend this movie to anyone who does not have a basic knowledge of courtroom proceedings, as it hits on all of the major aspects of a trial in an exciting and comical manner, keeping the viewer entertained throughout the entire film, which one would not receive from any other piece.
During the initial in person interview I asked about Jordy Gatto’s background and how he was raised. He responded with the story of his birth on December 14, 1994 in Pennsylvania’s Ellwood City, Jordy Gatto grew up with both of his parents and an older brother. In the second interview he informed of his intelligent mom, who attended nursing school, and his brother was in school. All while working under his kind father doing tasks that requiring manual labor such as repairing and constructing. Ironically the word “gatto” means “cat” in Italian, as Jordy himself considered the family “a bunch of hairy Italians”, who had chickens, dogs, and a cat for pets as part of the Gatto family. When I asked him what his favorite activities were in high school. He mentioned pole vaulting and weightlifting, gave me the impression of a fitness jock. However, as soon I dove into his interests I discovered his passion truly lay with Nature and her creatures. That Jordy’s recurring solemn and love for nature and animals are just hardwired into his DNA.
Scott Angelle, Former Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana and gubernatorial candidate, gave a powerful speech at the Rally for Economic Survival Event hosted at the Cajun Dome in 2010. His target audience was everyone affected by the oil and gas industry, from the taxi driver to the soccer mom. His message was that he will transform Louisiana back into the energy powerhouse it once was through policies that support the energy industry, which will in turn allow the economy to prosper on both the state and national level. In contrast to the policies instated by the Federal Government, such as the drilling moratorium, which inhibits the growth of the industry.
As history is written, people will analyse it. These opinions range from support to the actions taken to extreme disagreement with what has happened. In some cases, people will use this to try and write the next chapter of history. One of these people is Chris Hedges. Since 2007 he has written a multitude of essays that take a deep look at American foreign and domestic policy over the years. His overall conclusion is that there needs to be some sort of revolution in the United States to solve its problems. While I agree with the majority of his analysis, I do not agree with his conclusion. I will examine two of the essays he wrote, to call to attention my specific complaints. I will also be commenting on two of the sources he uses in each essay.

I chose Max Braverman from the TV show Parenthood, and he is a nine-year-old boy who is diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome in the first episode. Asperger’s used to be one of the branches of autism that individuals were diagnosed with before the disorder was put under the single term Autism Spectrum Disorder, or ASD. Symptoms of Asperger’s include, difficulty with social interactions, limited range of interest, repetitive behavior, uncoordinated movement, but unlike individuals further on the spectrum they won’t exhibit speech or cognitive delay.
