According to the Inde power or diyi' is in the relm of holy phenomena. This power is all around and exists throughout space and time in coexistance with all earthly and ethereal beings and things (Basso 1970). This power can be aquired through seeking it out-- you find power. The one who seeks this power much take on the take of investing themselves completely to the acquisition. One must learn the chants and prayers attateched to a power as to acknowledge, honor, praise and repay the power for aiding them (Basso 1970). If one doesnot pay proper honor through the chants and prayers the power can become displeasedand either leave the owner or impart negative reprocussions on the owner and his family. In addition, others may become jealous of fearful. Conversely, a pleased power can make life easier (Basso 1970). The most interesting aspect about how the Western Apache view power is that the reverance they give to the power, regardless of how it is aquired. This act of honor and appreciation allows for the individual to appreciate the intricacies of the power that is within them and surrounding them. This is such a special connection that many cannot appreciate. So many non-Indian people are so rushed, or cannot be bothered to slow do to honor all of the power around them. This is truly a special gift that the Wesern Apache have. My own view of where power is located is all around and within us. If feel that that is why some see auras, I believe that those people see the power that radiates from the person. So many times I have visited places or been around people that I feel very at ease with or feel very aggitated around. These types of feelings have always been with me for as long as I can remember.
