According to the textbook’s fantasy fiction characteristic of escape, “fantasy can take us far away from our everyday world, to times that never were, to places that never existed; it lets us forget our everyday routines, our frustrations, our anxieties”(p. 205). Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, like other fantasy books, help children escape and explore another world, even if that world is not real. Karin Slaughter a mystery novelist said, “ Reading is not just an escape. It is access to a better way of life.” Being able to invest in characters and a story is an escape for a child that does not make it a bad thing. Reading does let children into a world they wish to be a part of, based on the fact that there is magic and characters they wish they could meet. For instance, children invest in the characters of Harry and Ron, because Harry is the brave, courageous friend, while Ron is terrified of everything, but sticks by Harry no matter what happens. J.K. According to the textbook, “…fantasies take the reader into strange new worlds and operate on the outer fringes of the imagination” (p.213). The role of magic in literature is mainly to encourage children to use their imagination while reading, and it helps create this world that children want to join. J.K. Rowling writes her books for children as the gradually grow into young adults, and she makes sure that there is at least one character that is relatable to every single one of her readers. While parents may be worried about the investment their child has in fantasy stories, it is not something to discourage. There is nothing wrong with becoming a part of the magical world, because they are able to differentiate between what is real and what is not

Ever since J.K. Rowling first introduced Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in 1997, children and adults have read and loved the series. It has gained such popularity that all of the books have been made into major motion pictures, and a Harry Potter attraction has been opened in Universal Studios, Florida. Though the readers love Rowling’s intricate and exciting story lines, many controversies have arisen from these stories, not only in the United States, but also in various countries around the world. Perhaps the biggest controversy is the religious implications perceived by some critics. Although these critics believe that the series promotes paganism and encourages evil actions, these theories should not be taken so seriously.

Within the book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, by J.K. Rowling, characters and stories between Voldemort and Harry’s continuous struggle allude to stories from the Bible. Voldemort, who represents the evil in the struggle, fights against Harry Potter, who is the “good” representative within the book. In the fight against Harry, Voldemort has a pet snake by the name of “Nagini.” Nagini, at one point in the book, possesses over a good character in the book, Bathilda Bagshot. Bathilda is an author and a historian, who Hermione and Harry trust and visit. Bathilda eventually dies and the evil snake, Nagini, uses her body to attract Harry and Hermione. Nagini eventually reveals itself through Bathilda’s body and attacks Harry. However, Hermione
The wildly popular Harry Potter book series by J. K. Rowling has caused controversy for many families over the past five years. These novels according to some critics are harmless, adventurous, children's tales. Others choose to portray them as stories that inspire children to become involved in the occult and serious witchcraft. The Harry Potter novels chronicle the life of a young wizard whose wizard parents were killed by the evil Lord Voldermort. On his eleventh birthday he receives invitation to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Each of the five books represents a year of his life there (Walker). This essay will discuss whether the Harry Potter novels are a suitable read for children and why despite what some critics portray, Harry Potter can be a positive role model for youth.
I have chosen to work on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K Rowling for several reasons. Primarily, the book provides a various number of interesting challenges for the translator. Also, it contains several cultural markers; its text is abundant of references from other popular books for children. For instance, we can notice innumerable aspects from mystery and adventure series written by Enid Blyton within the world of Harry. The writer also uses her acquaintances of French and Latin in her origination of names and ideas that appertain to her fantasy universe.
The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling has been one of the most popular series to ever hit the bookshelves. The books aren’t focused on magic. J.K. Rowling just uses the idea of magical elements to make the series entertaining to read, yet still teach valuable life lessons along the way. These lessons can easily be applied and related to the daily lives of the readers. The Harry Potter series teaches readers the dangers of desire, the acceptance of others, the importance of teamwork and community and many others. The moral wisdom embedded in the Harry Potter books outweighs conservatives’ claims that wizardry is evil and that these books will result in evil children.
One of the hardest things to do in life is to realize that something needs to be changed and to complete the change. It is difficult to understand sometimes, that there is need for change; many people will not even know that they are wrong and need changing or be against change completely. But it is important to continuously create change and understand why change is important. There are three reasons that I believe would cause someone to struggle to create change: The environment around the person changes, they become more educated, and they can no longer suffer in their position.
JK Rowling is one of the most influential authors of our time, breaking boundaries and creating an alternate reality in a world far from anyones imagination. The series she is most well known for is the Harry Potter series. The series is seven books accompanied by eight movies. The tale starts with a young boy named Harry, whose parents died, from the sinister Voldemort. The series takes a bunch of twist and turns that ultimately lead to Voldemort 's death. Although, Harry and Voldemort want to destroy one another, they have some undoubtedly strong connections that are undeniable. JK Rowling has said that the connections between Harry and Voldemort range from childhood, through the death of Voldemort. The story of Voldemort and Harry begins
One of the most read series in all literature is Harry Potter. The seven-book succession has sold over 400 million copies and has been translated into over sixty languages. What is it that makes this series so wildly famous? What is it about the boy who lived that makes frenzied readers flock to their local bookstore at midnight on the day of the release to buy the latest installment? How is a story set in a world that doesn’t exist about wizards, witches, magic, and mystical creatures so popular? The series has been able to earn its spot on the New York Times Bestseller list and has granted author J.K. Rowling multiple awards because it is relatable. It is not the setting or the events in the plot of the story that we relate to. We relate to what Harry, his friends, mentors, teachers, caretakers, and even enemies feel. Harry is in a lot of ways exactly like us. He represents some of the good characteristics that all of us have as well as the bad. The series as a whole, is about one thing that is stressed over and over again in the novels, love. The Harry Potter series is one of the most read sequences of novels because the central theme is love and self-sacrifice, and readers are looking for a novel that shows them just that.
Harry Potter starts off slow, but gets very interesting near the end. In the beginning, you meet the Dursleys, Harry’s aunt, uncle, and their son Dudley. Then you learn that Harry’s parents were witches, and that they were destroyed by a evil wizard. A good witch, Albus Dumbeldoor, sends Harry to the Dursleys, because they’re his only remaining family. The Dursleys however, hated Harry and his family, so Harry was mistreated for years. He was forced to live in a cuborrod under the stairs. He had to watch as the fat, stuck up Dudley got whatever he wanted, and then usually broke whatever it was he got. Then one day Harry got a letter.
Magic is a fake subject and people need to be aware of this before they overanalyze situations. Children being exposed to magic will understand more and have greater creativity skill. The symbol of magic can be represented in many different things and can relate to life. Its healthy for kids to get lost into ta fantasy land by being creative and figuring out the depths of their imagination. If a child didn’t imagine they wouldn’t be able to set goals and think of situations and imagine history. Children figure out that Santa and the Easter bunny aren’t real and soon enough will understand that Harry Potter isn’t real. Disney fairytales are all fake and people understand that is fantasy. It just all depends on how the child learns and how the children will interpret the fantasy life. Magic is an exciting and cool fantasy theme that is fun and people love to know more about it. When the brain is developing reading these stories can help creativity as well as their writing skills. The more children read as a child the greater writers and communication they have. Its beneficial to have kids read and fantasy will take children to new places they have ever been before. Harry Potter was a great book to reflect how magic is a great asset to a book. Harry Potter is an action packed book of curiosity of what will happen next and its book you want to keep reading until the very ends and then start reading the next book of the series. Children will benefit highly from reading magic in literature at young
