The perception of India is vastly changing with modernization emerging alongside India’s former traditions. Mira Nair does this quite well in her film Monsoon wedding (2001). The use of Hindi and the English language adapt to its western viewers as well as its Indian viewers. Mira Nair also illustrates a family background that is rare in a traditional Indian family. Some family members from the Verma family are from different parts of the world; including the groom who is an engineer from Houston, C.L Chandra who is a wealthy businessman in Bombay and his son that resides in Australia. The mix of western culture within tradition puts a spin on this Bollywood film. Mira Nair explores the immense amount of modernization through particular scenes of character interaction, the use of modern advancements and the depicting images you encounter throughout the movie, but yet still holds onto India’s traditions.
Film and its success during the period of 1910-1945 was heavily determined by the audience’s reception of the work. During this time, there was an influx of films being produced and stars rising within the system. Although the stars were seen as the role models and are portrayed larger than life, it is ultimately the audience that determines the fate of the success of the stars. Audiences would go see a film if a certain actor was in it; or an actor, and the name of the star alone can determine that a film will be somewhat successful. Within the film, however, it is the authenticity of the celebrity that the audience were looking for in the stars; the directors of film would need to cast people who were representative of their characters. Overall, the actor’s in Today’s Special were well correlated together by the production system and director. The actor’s performance throughout the film allowed for the viewer to be entertained and involved in the culture of an Indian family. In addition, the ending left the viewer at ease with Samir’s new start as the chef he always dreamt of.
The television's new “golden age” is now upon us. As the internet continues to make filmmaking more accessible to public, Hollywood will continue being one of the biggest and greatest influences on today’s society and politics. It is much easier to create and share your ideas through film than ever before. Independent studios before, greatly expanding the number of debates and arguments people have access to. Never has the power to express yourself and your views through film been so great, and we are better off for it.

The ‘New Hollywood Cinema’ era came about from around the 1960’s when cinema and film making began to change. Big film studios were going out of their comfort zone to produce different, creative and artistic movies. At the time, it was all the public wanted to see. People were astonished at the way these films were put together, the narration, the editing, the shots, and everything in between. No more were the films in similar arrangement and structure. The ‘New Hollywood era’ took the classic Hollywood period and turned it around so that rules were broken and people left stunned.
As time and people are continually changing, so is knowledge and information; and in the film industry there are inevitable technological advances necessary to keep the attraction of the public. It is through graphic effects, sounds and visual recordings that all individuals see how we have evolved to present day digital technology; and it is because of the efforts and ideas of the first and latest great innovators of the twentieth century that we have advanced in film and computers.
Hollywood is an interesting entity, it provides the world with entertainment that is exciting, emotional, unique and so much more. At the same time, however, it’s hard not to see Hollywood as a money grubbing industry, full of sleazy deals, awful movies and it has even produced films completely diluted of originality. I was among these spectators sitting next to an empty desk. She came and took the weight off her feet in chair to the left of me. I had never talked to her until one day she brought conversation upon me. She asked me how my day was going and I gave a typical response of “Good.” She introduced herself and asked for my name. I discovered right then from the position of the sun in the sky creating a perfect reflection of shine in her eyes that this girl was the perfect human being. The way she talked with a sense of warmth made me feel comforted and secure.
