Teens and Birth Control Eric Scheidler’s article “Teens Should Not Have Access to IUDs” was full of information opposing the idea of teens and birth control. This article was published in the year 2016, and lists several points as to why teens should not have access to birth control. If you do some research on Eric Scheidler, you’ll find that he is a pro-life activist. Not only a pro-life activist, but he is also the communications director for Pro-Life Action League. Eric Scheidler is the child of Ann Scheidler and Joe Scheidler. Scheidler also has six daughters of his own, which he proudly announces in his article. Scheilder is fighting a fight that is being fought nationwide, but defiantly in the United States. It’s almost as if the United States is spilt, some citizens are fighting for pro-life and some are fighting for …show more content…
Scheidler is entitled to his own opinions for sure, but a man is standing against something that has no effect on his body? It may have an impact on his children’s bodies, but not his own. He does not make one significant argument against how a teen girl may be in harm’s way or any medical reasoning as to why teens should not be allowed access to birth control. He makes an argument that IUD’s could cause early abortion, yet that is standing on his own ethics, that abortion is wrong. Scheidler then proceeds to make a scenario out of girls using birth control. Scheidler actually compares birth control to boys using steroids before athletic events. Yes, you read that correctly. Scheidler states, “parents and coaches are trying to discourage the boys on the football team from using steroids to improve athletic performance, the AAP is encouraging the girls on the cheerleading squad—or the volleyball team—to have steroid-releasing devices implanted in their bodies”. He tries to compare them as being the same substance, but never even tries to contrast the
middle of paper ... ... To speak plainly, the issue of abortion is a slippery slope of morality. While siding with the Pro-Choice side myself, it felt necessary to examine Warren’s opinion so as to give constructive criticism and potentially help strengthen her argument for the future. Through Warren’s lack of sound consideration for what constitutes a personhood and numerous issues regarding potential personhood, it is clear that the conversation still has a long way to go.
After witnessing the liquidation of the Krakow ghetto, Schindler simply could not sit by and watch people be sent to death. After seeing the little girl in the red coat Schindler’s view on the whole Nazi operation changed. Here was this innocent girl running through utter chaos, as he sat on his high horse and watched the destruction. Schindler decided to help by bringing as many Jews out of the camps for work purpose, however no labor was carried out. Regina Perlman, a Jewish worker talked to Schindler and begged him to bring her parents to the factory, as they are old and would die if they did not get out of the concentration camps. He diminished the idea immediately claiming that he is running a business and harboring Jews are illegal, however, Schindler gave both her parents a job. When his workers were boarding the cattle cars to the factory a guard came along taking the children away from their parents and bringing them back into the camp. Schindler saved them, claiming he needs their small fingers to clean the insides of tiny machinery, however he was merely protecting the innocent children from being tortured. At the end of the war when the Jews are finally set free he even begins to cry, believing he did not do enough, questioning as to why he kept his car when he could of saved ten Jews with the money instead. Asking why he continued to parade with a gold pin when another Jew could of been saved. Convinced he did not do enough, yet he saved the lives of 1100 Jewish people, feeding and providing them with the essentials, using his own money. A hero is someone who has courage and is admired for their achievements, Schindler went against protocol and his own nation to save people who were deemed unfit for society and not any better than
Managing to save 1,200 Jews. This quote also shows courage because at his own expense he provided his Jewish employees with the life sufficient diet they needed unlike the Nazis did. Secondly, Schindler didn't want to sneak away the jews he only wanted to make a hoax for the Nazis. He wanted the Nazis to believe that he was helping them with the German war effort but really he was trying to save the Jewish community from final liquidation. The narrator describes, “He only wanted to keep the hoax up long enough to survive the war” (2). this quote demonstrates how Schidler stands up to the German command to help out the Jewish community without getting himself in the line at danger but still manages to save 1,200 Jews. He also demonstrates courage because if he got busted for what he is doing he would be imprisoned or even
During the whole of the 21st century, the subject of birth control has become a trending topic throughout various news reports. The debate on whether or not birth control should be required and distributed by all health plans has caused much controversy throughout the population. However, there was a time in our history when contraceptives, much less birth control, was available for the public. It was through the perseverance and determination of Margaret Sanger to make birth control legal for all women that it is accessible worldwide today. She was the leader of the birth control movement, which was conceived during the Progressive era of United States history.
For over two centuries abortion has been an issue of controversy within the United States; furthermore, at the heart of this debate lies the standoff between advocates of pro-life and of pro-choice. Individuals who identify as pro-life strongly oppose abortion, believing it to be unjust and illegal. The argument pro-life advocates often put forth is that the fetus in question qualifies as a human being; therefore, to end its life prematurely is akin to murder. Pro-choice advocates, on the other hand, are strong supporters of placing the power of decision within the mother’s hands and allowing her to determine what is best for both her and her unborn child. She presents the idea that primitive forms of birth control are no longer ethical in today’s society as their methods would violate various mores that have been set by present day society by saying that that “primitive man have achieved the same results by infanticide, exposure of infants, abandonment of children, and abortion.” She uses examples of seemingly barbaric primitive methods to exemplify that in present times there is a need for a more civilized and humane method of family planning. By using this extreme example, Sanger effectively appeals to ethos to hopefully persuade the audience by showing how the old methods would themselves be contradictory to the set of morals the opposers are trying so hard to hold on to. She also appeals to ethos in the very end of the speech by identifying three separate and conflicting social classes that are based on intelligence and wealth. She describes the first class as being “intelligent and wealthy members of the upper classes who have obtained knowledge of birth control and exercise it in regulating the size of their families.” She then compares the highest class to the mid-level group by saying they they too are “equally intelligent and responsible” but can not gain knowledge and there fore can not plan their families. By comparing the first two alone it appeals to ethics as two groups with equal knowledge and wealth should both have knowledge and control over the size of their families. She ties in the last group by saying that the lowest group is “irresponsible and reckless” and states that this group reproducing in large numbers is bad for society as it will spread disease and the increase in size of this “feeble-minded” group. This in itself is not fair to the other members of society as it makes it more dangerous for the others. She uses the unfairness of this negligence
...r positions rather than basing their opinions on established science or law. It is every individual’s right to make a decision like the abortion of a child. It is their choice on not to bring a beautiful child into this world if they cannot afford to take care of the child, care for the child, and give the child the best possible life they deserve.
Contraception is it right or wrong and are you to young to decide for yourself? Recently we have been hearing a lot about Contraception ad if it is right or wrong and who gets to decide. The name of the Scholarly article that I chose to write about is, (Simonds & Ellertson, 2004, p. 1285-1297) Emergency Contraception and Morality reflections of health care workers and clients. In the United States our government goes back and forth between trying to be conservative and trying to separate personal feelings from what people are trying to push them to do. Our government has been taking steps to over haul health care in the United States and my doing so they have been talking about Contraception and if it’s right or wrong and what guide lines you have to follow to be eligible to receive it. Unplanned pregnancies or ‘surprises” as we call them happen all too often. At some point in our lives we are all affected by them. (Planned parent hood ad, New York Times p. 27 August, 15 2000) in the article the author was trying to prove that Contraception is neither wrong nor right because different cultures and religions have different beliefs. In this article it starts off giving statistics on pregnancy and the methods of contraception. On one end of the Contraception Spectrum there are condoms, abstinence, and birth control pills. During the 20th century contraception was often confused with abortion (Juker 1996) between 1873 and 1965 it was illegal to send information or materials pertaining to contraception or abortion in the mail. Legally and ideology, contraception and abortion share similar history and both are associated with the taboo subject of women’s sexuality (Hawkes 1995) in 1960 the birth control pill ushered in a revolution in c...
Freely accessible birth control for teenagers has always been a topic of debate, but it prevents pregnancy, abortion, and it also has many health benefits. There are cons to the argument that suggests a rise in promiscuity in the adolescent demographic, but in spite of these cons the rise of birth control continues, because access to birth control helps adolescents make an informed and safe decision on whether or not to participate in sexual activities. It doesn’t make the decision for them.
One of the most controversial and highly debatable subjects in the minds of the American public today is the topic of abortion. While abortion is seen as murder to some, others look upon it as an extremely safe procedure, offering numerous benefits to the recipient, predominantly being the right to choose. The argument has long been increasingly prevalent in the American political scene for decades, and is now being brought into new light as medical practices advance and technical flaws are effectively worked out. What cannot be altered, however, is the reality that what is being disposed of is in fact, a developing human life. It is this fact that the pro-life argument is based upon. The abortion debate not only revolves around the overall legality of the procedure, but also the conditions taking place that would condone such an operation.
We already know that some minors are stupid enough, naive enough, or defiant enough to have sexual intercourse with another person. That is all you need to know to figure out if minors should or should not be able to use birth control, if they’re going do it anyways, they should be able to protect themselves for the future. Approximately 1 million adolescent teens become pregnant each year and 86% of STI’s (Sexually transmitted infection) happen between ages 15-29 years old, showing just how big of a social issue this is for Americans. A valid argue against is, if you don 't let them protect themselves, they won’t have sex at all, fearing the consequences. This essay will cover why it is imperative that it is legal for minors to use birth
Teens that have unprotected sex should have access to birth control. It 's easy to be
...ct potential life at conception, and because of this there is absolutely no way I could ever be in favor of abortion. Abortion is murder, the only exception I can think of would be if the mother’s life was at risk, but besides that, I don’t see how allowing abortion is enhancing women’s rights. Citizens are supposed to be protected by the state, so why are these unborn children being deprived of this protection? According to the website lifenews.com 1.2 million babies dies every year from abortion. These statistics left me in shock and feeling very upset about the current state of affairs. I’m tired of hearing all these argument that try to justify abortion, to me, none of them are valid. I think people should really consider looking deeper into this topic, if they did perhaps they would come to realize that abortion is an inhumane procedure that should be illegal.
Most of the pro-life crowd closely follow issues in bioethics. President Harold Shapiro's advisory role to the Clinton administration and the recent faculty appointment of controversial bioethics professor Peter Singer have put University in the spotlight.
...resent. For those who come next, let Schindler’s heroics and selflessness forever be a testament to the power of simple humanity. Not just that, but a call to action, to aid the victims of ethnic violence. While we may think that it is a dog eat dog world out there, if you can be the one to take a stand and have the courage to stand up for justice then you are following in the footsteps of legends like Oskar Schindler. Perhaps Thomas Keneally summed it up best in his 1982 book, Schindler’s Ark, “He'd hate to be a priest, Herr Schindler said, in an era like this, when life did not have the value of a packet of cigarettes. Stern agreed but suggested, in the spirit of the discussion, that the Biblical reference Herr Schindler had made could be summed up by a Talmudic verse which said that he who saves the life of one man, saves the entire world” (Keneally).
