The observation took place at the Child-Development Center classroom D at Yuba College. When I arrived the children were outside playing in the grass and play-sets available. We made a few trips to the bathroom, and towards the end of my observation we moved into the classroom. It was a cool day so the kids did not mind being outside, so most of the observation occurred outside the
classroom.
My observation was an hour and fifteen minutes long. This is an at- home facility, she takes care of kids of all ages, day and night. She separated the children by age group, allowing infants/ young toddlers to be together and older toddlers to be with the bigger age kids. She has a room in her house designated for play. In the room, she has a painting station, a reading area, a doll house and kitchen station for play. I arrived when they were in play time. She explained to me that she allows the children to play 1 hour each day so that they can express their creative minds and so that they are cognitively
For less than two hours, I observed the grandson of a visitor at my aunt’s home.
The environment in which an infant is raise, has to do a lot with his/her development. I was surprise by this observation because there were different personalities. Loui was the child who interact more with the students in the classroom. Also, he was surprise of the things that he was able to do by using his gross motor skills. Charlotte imitate the behavior with the toys that were in the classroom. On the other hand, Benjamin was insecure child that needed to be near his mom/dad. I learned many things from this activity. I was able to understand the concepts because I related to the observation. This will help me in my future
The observation took place indoor at my relative 's house. I went to observe the child on Tuesday at 12:00 in the morning. When you first enter the house and walk through the hallway, you will see that the kitchen is on the right side and the dining table on the left. After passing the kitchen and dining table, you will see that the living room connects to the back-yard. The living room 's walls had multiple picture frames and decoration pieces hanging along with a brown color clock. Moreover, the living room had dark green sofa 's, television, a coffee table and variety of toys that include a white writing board, a box of legos, soft toys, barbie dolls, kitchen sets, play house, books, ball, building blocks and a blue color table along with
Another rather consistent observation I saw was the indication that most children used their parent as a secure base. A secure base is provided through a relationship that harbors one or more responsive caregivers who meets the child’s needs and to whom the child can turn to as a safe haven, when upset or distraught. This relationship can be seen in many of the observations I made. The one that stands out the most and that clearly depicts how a child uses a secure base is Susy. Susy used her parents as secure base when she was frightened by the boy that was older than her and whom she didn’t know. She ran to her parents for protection and comfort from the stranger. Another clear depiction of a secure base was when Susy demonstrated separation
In this assignment I am going to describe a child observation that I have done in a nursery for twenty minutes in a play setting. I will explain the strengths and weaknesses of naturalistic observation through the key developmental milestones based in Mary Sheridan (2005) check-list and provide a theoretical explanation to support the naturalistic observation.
For observing child #1 the whole class watched the video of Kingston. In the first video Kingston was in a exersaucer that had toys all around it on the top. He was wearing a white onesie that had black writing on the front of it. Kingston has short hair that just touches the ears and barely riches the top of her neck it looks like a like blonde/light brown color. He wasn’t a chunky baby he looked like he was in a healthy shape looked to be around 3 or 4 months old.
The child I observed was born on February 21st, so the baby that I observed is just weeks old. The baby is white and a male. The baby is a friend’s child and I observed him in the living room of their home and in his personal bedroom while he was in his crib. There was two couches in the living room, a television, two end tables, and a big sectional rug which was where the child was most of the time. There was 4 adults. The mom, the dad, my mom, and I. There were no other children in the house at this time.
Hopefully this observation can give some insight of the preschool age group. Although this was only a sample, perhaps some conclusions can be drawn on the development and behavior of these children.
Recently, I went to The Happy School, a preschool in my hometown of Smallville, California, to pass the morning with the students there. In the time I spent there, the children, ages 3 to 5, engaged in unstructured play, and sat in a circle for calendar time and reading aloud. The preschool is primarily child-centered in terms of its organization, meaning it incorporates a lot of child directed activity, and less structured, or adult directed, learning (Berk, 2008). I watched the group of about twenty children with the intention of studying them as a whole, but I found myself compelled to watch two children in particular, Addison and Jack, because they displayed particularly intriguing behavior. Today is Monday, March 6, 2017, I am in room 1 of the Child Discovery Center. The Child I will be observing is Genevieve, age 6. The time is 4:00 pm, and the children are lining up for snack time.
The two children that I have interacted with this week at the Early Childhood Education Center from the Willows group is Emily and Harriet. I got a chance to interact with these two girls this week. They are both so much fun to play with and be around. With Harriet, we played in the dirt box and played with the musical instruments. We also played with her stuffed little gray and white cat and a toy tiger. With Emily, we played doctor and played in the kitchen area. Together Emily and I played nurse and doctor to make her little baby feel better and got to play dress up with it. We also played some in the kitchen to make food for the baby as well. From what I have learned from Harriet and Emily is that they have two different personalities.
Importance of Observations “Observation is one of the most important aspect of day-to-day professional practice when working with children of all ages” (Stearns) Observations are done in everyday life but more based ones are carried out in order to asses a child’s development in order to see how well they are doing in specific areas of development, it can often help practitioners see which parts of their develop that they may be lagging behind in. “Key functions of observations are that it helps assists practitioner in seeing areas of development where the child may need more support” (Walker) Observation can be carried out every day without the use of pens or paper, they can easily be done by just watching, seeing what the child is struggling
Auto education is a natural ability that people absorb knowledge and practical skills, it's controlled by the brain. Each person individually makes the neurological connections that from new knowledge. Direct connection with the environment and through the manipulation/handling of the environment the child makes neurological connections, and form concepts about the world. For example, in the object to picture matching activity, the child observing the colors, shapes, and fruits, flowers in the picture to name the objects.
