Originally, water was just hydroxide and hydrogen ions, but together these two molecules formed a crucial source of survival for most walks of life. That is how marriage can feel, it is the start of a union that without this union the world would not be the same. A Hmong mother, Foua took it upon herself to perform a marriage ceremony for the author of “The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down”, Anne Fadiman. In this miniscule event, two cultures with completely conflicting ideas came together to form a union. In this union, an American was celebrating an event in a Hmong way, truly a collision of two cultures.

In the novel To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis, the author creates a realistic portrayal of Victorian England through the incorporation of ideals from the Spiritualism Movement. People throughout history have always needed explanations for why the world is the way it is. In the Victorian Era this was achieved through supernatural beliefs while in the future it is achieved by using analytical thinking to unravel the mystery of the situation much like a detective novel. Despite the outrageous claims and conclusions the characters make, it is true that nothing is as it seems.

Joseph Michael Sommers, has written an article on one of Judy Blume’s most iconic coming of age story; Are You There, God? It’s Me Margaret. In this article he speaks about the nature of this novel and how it speaks to young adolescent females. He speaks about the connection the novel has between the protagonist and the reader. Sommer’s argument is that the protagonist breaks the fourth wall and seeks outside intervention to her troubles in her life. The author speaks about the boundaries Judy Blume has tested. One is “sororal dialogism” in the novel, and how he will show it as a recast of avuncularism. Also how sororal bond can be found and interpreted in the novel. Another issue is, how Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret, has been described as a problem novel. As well as what position the reader plays. One thing that stood out was that Sommers in the title of the essay puts “reader” in the spot where the word “God” should be.

I think that Shel Silverstein’s book should not have been banned. Everyone needs to have some kind of sense of humor about serious subjects. I believe that children should not have to worry about these topics, and Silverstein writes to makes kids less anxious. I know as a kid, I always hated talking about heavy subjects. However, Shel Silverstein addresses them in a silly way. He tries to make a point to show that they’re not always a bad thing. He encourages kids to write ridiculous poems, and draw crazy pictures. If this book teaches anything to children, it teaches children to think differently. To come to an end, I conclude that A Light In the Attic should not have been

Literary criticism shows multiple valid points of the many things that are inappropriate with this book. A parent said, "But to have that language and to take the name of Christ in vain – I don't go for that. As a Christian, and as a female, I was offended. Kids don’t have to be reading that kind of thing". This quote shows that it’s not about simply wanting to ban a book, but more about how you don't want others to read the type of books that are inappropriate for them. Children should not have to read a book with such foul language and with things that could potentially be offensive. If a parent would go so far as to try and ban a book, then there must be quite a good reason they don't want their child to read it. Equally important, many people gave reviews on the book saying things like, "Haddon does not understand Asperger", "A major disservice to the Autistic Community", and "Stereotyped, inaccurate, horribly offensive... this isn't how it is".
